The Reel Inn
Was on a photo shoot and decided to grab an early dinner at the Reel Inn. It is very easy to locate as it runs adjacent the beach on Pacific Coast Highway. There is plenty of free parking. You can order fresh fish or have them prepare it on the spot. I opted for the fish and chips. Tasty. Service is great. There are tables inside as well as outside. Also, they serve beer and wine as well as other beverages.

Just how you imagine a fish shake on the coast in California: rustic, a bit greasy. Self-service but friendly service at the counter. There's almost always a queue, but it looks worse than it actually is, 10-15 different fish dishes. Side dishes are always included (which you can choose freely: vegetables, rice, fries, coleslaw, etc.), there's also pasta and meat and a children's menu. You order at the counter, where the fresh fish is also displayed; when the order is ready, the name is called out and you can pick it up. Good wine selection. Free parking. You can get to the beach via the PCH.
Be the first to ReplyGreat choice for dinner. Good Food
Great choice for dinner. Son introduced us to this quaint place. You select your fish, which can be purchased alone or add one of their yummy sides. We dined on Calamari Steak, Shrimp and Lobster tail. It was a little too cool for me so we opted not to eat on the patio.
Be the first to ReplyToo crowded
It was worth it to me to try it once but I doubt if I’ll go again. It was too crowded. There was no place to park, then we had to wait in line to get in and then wait in line to order our food. The food was okay, not great but maybe it was so crowded cuz it was Saturday night. If I ever go back, it’ll be for lunch and never on a Saturday night.

Highly recommend! When you get there you order your food and then sit down. The food was great and we enjoyed the causal environment! It also had a great view.
Be the first to ReplyA Malibu must….!
It’s a bit like marmite - you either love it or hate it. But you will never know unless you try it! The Reel Inn is on the PCH but not on the ocean side so don’t go if you are expecting to catch a sunset or watch the surf. It’s more the kind of place you drop into after a day of surfing in flip flops and shorts and get a great fish dinner in a very relaxed and casual atmosphere. Order from the hatch, pick up your own cutlery and condiments and enjoy!

a local favorite for fresh fish in a casual and classic Malibu location. Wear you flip flops and relax.
Be the first to ReplyFun, casual spot on PCH!
We’ve eaten here a few times and will keep coming back. Fun, casual, surfer vibe and delicious seafood! The fish & chips and fried shrimp are really good… Coleslaw is delicious, too. All-around nice place for lunch or dinner. Part of Malibu history.

An old LA-Malibu fave for ages. At the PCH/Topanga Canyon Road function. Fresh fish. Family style service. East in/out. Free parking. Great prices. What’s not to like.
Be the first to Replyworth the wait to get in
I loved my dinner at the Reel Inn. There was a long wait to get in (I came on the weekend around sunset time), but my order was made quickly, the food was sooo delicious, and the atmosphere was just perfect for a casual seafood dinner after some time at the beach.
Be the first to ReplyClean, Fun, and Delicious - I'd Come Back
After reviewing the Reel Inn on Trip Advisor we almost didn't stop but it looked so fun we did anyway and I'm so glad we did.
The ordering process was fun. I have food allergies and the woman taking our order was extremely knowledgeable and funny. I was able to get what I wanted and a laugh.
Then you wait for your food in a friendly, casual atmosphere. There are tables both inside and out. Outside offered three sitting areas outfitted with heaters for the cool December weather. We sat outside and were perfectly comfortable.
Our food was hot, fresh, and delicious. I had scallops and shrimp and my daughter had fish and chips. Both came with two sides. The serving sizes were very plentiful and neither of us could finish everything.
If I have a chance, I will definitely be back.
Fast and fresh seafood!
We ate here for and evening meal. Good food. Relaxed atmosphere. Staff were friendly. Service was fresh and fast. It was a bit overpriced for counter top ordering and pick-up, but portions were large.

Fun, casual place to eat. Sat out on the patio & enjoyed view of the beach. I had crab cakes & a salad & my husband had the blackened catfish. Prices are very reasonable and service was great. Can't wait to visit again.
Be the first to ReplyOpen and you get eat on patio!
Enjoyed shrimp and chips with fries and slaw as well as homestyle potatoes. We got it to share. Plenty for two!
Glad to be able to sit down and eat on the patio. Nice environment.
The chocolate cake was rich and filling but just wanted some chocolate. :)
Still Legit
Delicious freshly grilled fish. Go for the halibut. Old school atmosphere with lacquered picnic tables, nets and buoys on the ceiling, line up and order at the window. Get there before noon to beat the crowd. Be careful taking a left on PCH out of the parking lot!
Be the first to ReplyGreat fresh fish in super casual atmosphere
Loved the laid back atmosphere. If someone hadn’t recommended it I never would have gone to it by the look of it from the outside. Cute nautical theme, kept thinking of the crusty crab from Sponge Bob. Had the fried zucchini, Cajun shrimp, mashed potatoes and coleslaw. All great! Wish the zucchini had a better dipping sauce than just ranch dressing. Either a remoulade or horseradish dip would be amazing. Would definitely recommend a visit here for a casual fresh fish experience.
Be the first to Replywonderful fresh fish, very relaxed place
This restaurant is located in Malibu and offers a casual, relaxed ambience and colourful decor. Big communal tables in line with the laid back vibe. As you get in, you get to chose which fish you want and how you want it cooked. Plus two sides. Then you’re told to wait until they call your name and you go and collect your meal. Pretty cool. The meals are fresh and honest, nothing fancy but who wants fancy here anyway ? Free parking on site although I expect it to be tough to find a place during high season. Recommend to others!
