Wonderful dining experience
We were treated beautifully at the golden lake restaurant in Moorea- anticipating our arrival, our table was ready for us and our two teenage kids. We were given ample time to consider the large selection of the menu and then our order was taken and all questions answered kindly. Our food was the best part as it was brought out timely and was hot and delicious. We ordered the peppered beef, skillet of satay chicken, chow mein, rice and spring rolls. Everything was delicious- both of my kids finished their food and raved about the non-pretentious restaurant and yummy food.
the drink list is pretty extensive and the restaurant had a family friendly vibe.
Local Flavor, Fun Atmosphere
We ate dinner on here a Saturday evening and there was really good live music and a lot of locals eating there so it was a fun atmosphere. There were so many choices on the menu so there should be something appealing to almost anyone. We had chow mein and pineapple chicken and it was good and the portion sizes were large. The prices were affordable - which we were grateful for after quite a few expensive meals. The restaurant also provided transportation from our hotel which was very convenient. We enjoyed our meal!
Be the first to ReplyGood Place to Order a Lunch to go
We visited this place during our food tour and we then came back 2 or 3 times. It is a good spot to grab something to take with you. Anything from a morning pastry (their coconut bread is very good) to a quick lunch to go (sandwich, baguette, etc). Nothing fancy but quick, inexpensive and good variety.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
I had dinner at Golden Lake Restaurant recently and was very disappointed. I ordered spring rolls and chicken fried rice. They were both very oily and flavorless. The service was fine, but the the food was less than desirable. If you’re in an Airbnb and cooking for yourself, plan on grocery stores being closed on Sunday and avoid the Golden Lake Restaurant.

I walked in tonight around 7:15 or so, my girlfriend were seated right away, however that is all the attention we received...after about 20 minutes or so, without even placing a drink order...we left...no one even said a word to us as we left from the back corner of the room...that's how if ored we were...what a joke. I will say though, after leaving, we continued down the road towards the town market, found a delicious BBQ restaurant on the left side of the street...both of us ordered steaks...food was good and fairly priced.
Be the first to ReplyMeh, but I'm American, so....
We read this was an amazing place to eat. So we called and they picked us up from the Sofitel. Our first mistake was not sticking to what we know we like in America. We ordered a fish dish, chicken dish, and fried rice. The fried rice was what we were used to, but not the other 2 dishes. Now, we're not very adventurous eaters, so your mileage could vary. The waitstaff was excellent, but the food just wasn't what we're used to. It seemed very expensive, but remember, you're in FP!!! NOTE: you must pay for water. Probably contributed to my perception of high price.

So. We arrived on our own, even if our host told us that in this restaurant - such as in any other restaurant in Moorea - they pick you up and brings you back for free. That’s common in Polynesia, we did in several island in FP and nobody never made any difference depending where you were staying at. WELL THEY DID! The lady refused to give us a lift to go back to our place of only 2 km away because we were not staying in a hotel (but we rented a house in a residence). We would have done it by walking but was late night and there was no lights out there in the street! Well, I kindly asked to check it BEFORE taking our order. She came back saying that she would have done it personally. Ok so than! We placed our orders. Probably it was not enough because as soon as she came back she literally dropped our plates saying NOTHING in a really nasty way! She did non even reply to our “merci” (thanks in French). I said well let’s eat... unfortunately the food was AWFUL. The fried rice “special golden lake” looked like a cheap plate that you can get at a take away roulette. The fish? Directly from the refrigerator. The tuna sashimi was literally sinking into spices and cream who entirely covered the taste of the fish.. my overall review can only be zero. The local is personally overrated and this waitress was simply rude. Of course, we refused the lift back to our place.

Had a great chow main at this restaurant however I felt that paying 800 francs for a bottle of coke zero is daylight robbery. This was the most expensive by far in all restaurants visited in our stay
