Ristorante Dal Corsaro Cagliari Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing, Incredible Dining Experience
This is how a Michelin experience should be! Firstly, the servers floated in and out, serving dishes and explain the meal flawlessly. It felt like they put new dishes in front of us without ever interrupting the flow of conversation. Every dish was expertly plated and tasted incredible. My husband and I opted for the wine pairing and these wines were by far the best wines we've ever had in Sardinia. The best part about this restaurant is that if you don't want to do the tasting menu, they have a section for guests that want to have a casual meal. My husband and I would definitely make a special trip just to eat here again.
A memorable experience for all the wrong reasons
Our dinner at Dal Corsaro didn't start well as we weren't asked if we had any allergies on arrival and had to wait over 30 minutes before we actually had anything to eat or drink. Unfortunately that set the tone for the speed of the rest of the evening along with the pacing of the 7 course menu which was far too slow (and got significantly worse) given that the dishes in the tasting menu were typically small. The dining room itself isn't very interesting and, without anything much to look at, after several slow courses conversation on many of the tables was clearly faltering and people could be seen reaching for their mobiles to pass the time. Where I had fish dishes that differed from my partner's meat ones, I felt I had the benefit of more imagination and creativity over his somewhat prosaic dishes, but when by nearly 11pm we still weren't done, we decided it was time to call it a day and declined two courses so we could leave and get to bed at a reasonable time. Though management was aware that their failures had caused us to make these decisions, no adjustment was made to the bill (unlike others who suffered the same problems that night) although we were contacted a day of so later and a compensatory meal offered. As we were not returning to Cagliari to be able to take advantage of this we had to decline. All in all, a memorable experience for all the wrong reasons.
Disappointing experience, very slow
My husband took me here as a surprise. We did the 7 course with wine tasting. I don’t eat seafood so they adjusted the menu to be vegetarian/meat focused. I will caviat this review by saying I wasn’t feeling well. I would give this a 1 star overall and 4 stars for food, and my husband would rate is 4 overall and the food is a 5 star. This was the slowest service ever. We’d have 15 minutes just sitting there between each course, it was excruciating! I left half way through because I couldn’t stand how long it was taking (couples with not feeling great), and they discounted my meal which I felt was the right thing to do, and appreciated. My husband was there 7:45-11:30 with his 7 course meal and espresso. Absolutely absurd! He didn’t mind the slow service but for me it was unbearable and will make me rethink doing a tasting menu anywhere in the future.
Completely undeserving of a Michelin star
Our dinner at Dal Corso was nothing short of an ordeal, It took 25 minutes before our order was taken and wine appeared on our table and a further 10 minutes before any kind of food turned up. The session started with nonsense around identifying what wines were available by the glass. First I was told there wasn't a wine list as such and to use a QR code to find out what wines were being offered as a flight to accompany the tasting menus and when this turned out to be a wild goose chase, the 'list' was given to me verbally. All because they cant be bothered to print a wine list. The food itself never rose above average though it has to be said that my partner's fish tasting menu had a few treats that gave glimpses of what the chef might be capable of. However, the meat tasting menu was repeatedly mediocre (I am thinking of the beef tartare and risotto which were simply lacking in any artifice) and occasionally dipped into plain awful (notably the seemingly undercooked poached egg and spinach which I left). Nothing on my plate showed any imagination or originality that converted into novel taste combinations and a recurring problem with both tasting menus was the over-use of very strong flavours such as anchovy, mature cheese and marrow bone. No chef with any talent needs to resort to such ingredients to make their dishes interesting but alas misjudgement was the only notable feature of our meal. There was clearly a kitchen malfunction at some point as it was obvious that none of the surrounding tables had food and the serving staff were standing around with nothing to do. No one thought to tell any of us and, as a result, the pacing, which already was uneven, became a total mess. When we realised we were not going to get out of the restaurant much before midnight, having arrived at 8pm, we opted out of 2 courses. Despite it being abundantly clear that we were extremely dissatisfied with the meal, no gesture such as omitting the charge for the wine was made. The only slightly redeeming action was to request on the spot feedback. When confronted with a very angry face, this was an act of bravery to be commended. All in all, I would steer clear of this thoroughly hopeless restaurant. The chef has a lot to learn and there are much more enjoyable ways to spend 280 euros.
