We came for two of our friend's bday celebration and everything was great! They offered a pre-fix menu and we added a la carte. Staff was super friendly and helpful, and let me tell you, these small plates were amazing! I forgot to take a photo of the prosciutto but goddamn that was delicious! The mortadella was one of the best I've ever had. The lasagna is not your typical Lasagna but it so good! Could have used a little more sauce though. The head on shrimps were messy but delicious. Definitely get the potato's war style! Every dish had such great flavors. The rib eye and pork chops were a little over done to my liking. The hanger steak was perfect! I'd skip the rib eye and just get the hanger steak. I have to come back earlier next time to try and snag a burger!

So this visit was not planned and my husband randomly chose this place as I've never heard of Rolo's. We arrived at 4pm and apparently they have a break from 3-5pm for the transition of brunch to dinner but seating for drinks at the bar is allowed. We said hey why not, its only an hour. We asked to be put on a wait list and were the first ones. Keep in mind, what I learned about Rolo's once 5pm hits itll be a mad house. Either you make a reservation or come 30ish mins early and get put on a waitlist otherwise all tables WILL be taken up once the dinner service starts. Alex was our wonder bartender, answered all questions we had and kindly made sure we were aware of all the things I stated above. We started off with the spicy pineapple marg. It was good but a spicy drink was never my thing and too much of it doesnt sit well with me. I opted for a mango margarita for my next drink and it was delicious. He definitely knew how to make a drink. For being put on a waitlist we got a really nice corner booth, I loved it and the vibes of the 2nd room where the kitchen was located. By 5:15 every single table was taken, I never seen such a thing and very impressed. Main reason why my husband chose this place was for the burgers, it's supposed to be one of the best...so here we are. I was told these burgers get sold out within the first hour or so. We started off with the sea salt and olive oil polenta bread accompanied by an order or prosciutto. The bread was smaller than I thought because then I would've ordered 2 but it was superrrrrrr soft and yummy, it went perfectly with the prosciutto but I wish the cut was saltier than it was, you just tasted more of the fat. Next. The main event. The burger everyone talks about. Cooked to perfection. Very juicy. A wonderful and delicious burger but not the best that I've tried as everyone says. It's super filling. We also ordered a side of potatoes. These were super crispy wedges. Very good! As for the sauce that came with it, It was not my favorite and I'm a sauce girl. I was excited to try dessert but I simply couldn't finish. Our waitress, im sorry I couldnt remember her name, super kind, always came around to refill our waters. Everyone that worked here all worked together and you can feel their great energy. I would love to come back and try their steaks, pastas, and their known for lasagna. Definitely recommend but remember go EARLY before dinner service opens or make a reservation.

Been to Rolo's so many times now and have had nothing but amazing experiences. Have had the pleasure of getting great service from the entire staff including Josh, Tyler and Shaq to name a few. Came here for my birthday, Father's Day and Rolo's has become my go to restaurant for anyone I want to impress with a great meal. Salt and Pepper head on shrimp is my sleeper favorite, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu and the cocktails are amazing. The Spicy pineapple margarita is unreal too! It's a cozy restaurant with good vibes and the best staff, you really can't ask for more. They do all of the fundamentals right and everyone cares which really shows.

7/10 Service: 8.5/10 Ambiance: 8.4/10 Went to Rolo's on a Monday night in early March. Arrived early and sat at the bar. I'd been meaning to try this restaurant since the Eater NY video profile on April 5, 2023. The title of the YouTube video said it had the best burger in NYC. Then it became popular on Instagram. So I went to try it. It is a great burger. Much better than the Wendy's baconator that I had last week. It is very juicy and nicely seasoned, topped with grilled onions and dijonnaise. It does not have the dry aged funk of the Red Hook tavern burger, but is equally delicious, if not more so. I still have Luger's and Raoul's up higher on my list, but Rolo's offering is certainly up there. The ribeye took a while to come out. The bartender said they let it rest a while before serving, but I would have preferred they send it out to the table a little sooner and at a higher temperature. It's still a great steak, but quite pricey. The Rolo's daiquiri #1 and the martini french (french rhum, vanilla cordial, blackberry, pineapple & lemon juice, salt, herbsaint), both $16, were well made, refreshing concoctions. I enjoyed the former more than the latter. This daiquiri is better than Raoul's version, though maybe not quite as good as The Happiest Hour's. From some of the conversations I heard at the bar, it seems many hospitality industry people dine on Mondays. Everyone knows everyone. An industry with real community.
Be the first to ReplyI can't say enough good things about this spot.
Passionate staff, great wine list and absolutely banging food. The polenta bread with mortadella was to die for as was every other dish I tried. The bartender got us set up with some delicious local natural wine which paired nicely with the moody lighting and vibe of the restaurant. This will be on my must visit list every time I'm back in NYC.

The internet ruined this experience. Sad to see it wither into an instagram destination. But happy ridgewood is slaying.

(NOTE: This is a review I began back on 11/3/2022) I don't know how to add to the hundred-plus previous reviews already posted but not having read any of them, here goes: We unfortunately didn't try coming here back when it was a small take-out storefront & part-time cafe in 2020 (?) so when we saw the website and came in person, we were floored by how it tripled in size & transformed into a full-blown restaurant - and a super-crowded one, too. In fact, when my husband and I arrived, we were told that indoor seating was going to be a 30-45 min wait so we sat outdoors in a heated hut. It has a communal table in it where you can be seated a group of up to 8 (! Very spacious & nice ambiance & VERY warm!) or you share the space with another couple. Another couple was already seated there and were extremely nice & friendly & were regulars from the neighborhood and RAVED about this restaurant & eagerly asked us what we were ordering & agreed with our choice (the wood fire roasted chicken & the lasagne - which is also wood-fired (!) They also urged us to try their homemade ice cream & "fudgy chocolate cake". The chicken and desserts were the caliber of a $50-75 per entree restaurant (the chocolate was to DIE for! And the cherry sauce it came with was like the kind that is used in a homemade sour cherry pie) ! The lasagne was very unique, you'll see when it arrives and yes is made with fresh pasta. Of COURSE we are coming back - Must try brunch, right??? Note: We were so hungry that we forgot to take photos of our dinner (XD), only the wood fired bread and the desserts!

If i were just judging the burger, would give Rolo's a 5 star review. It was absolutely delicious and lived up to the hype I had read all about online! I also really enjoyed the war fries, which were crispy potato wedges with a spicy peanut sauce and mayo (I'm a sucker for anything peanut!!). At $15, I didn't think the mortadella was particularly worth it. It was good, but I've had better elsewhere at a lower price. The lasagna was a bit overdone, so I got more taste of the char versus flavor of the pasta/filling. I think rolos is a great spot to try once to get the burger (get there early to make sure you get it since we apparently had gotten the last one at around 7pm), but I don't think the rest of the menu is worth going out of the way for.
Be the first to ReplyGreat music.
Candle lit table. Friendly people from front of house, to bar, to waitress and the woman who brought water to the table and cleared dishes. It was sad that they were out of the burger, the reason we came, but it looked so great we wanted to stay, and so we spent much more than intended but it was a great meal. We were there for the last day of the Valentine's Day menu, and our food was pretty fantastic. The salad was greens with chèvre and a light vinaigrette, that was a bit over salted, but great still. The mushrooms had this amazing spicy peanut sauce. The spicy margarita had a burnt pineapple that was phenomenal! The entrees were: A) a duck that was steak like, with lentils, and the flavor of the meat was fantastic! B) Filet Mignon with a wonderful peppercorn sauce and C) the standout...the chicken in a butter & herb sauce. We got the fries with sauce on the side which I recommend doing...the fries were great, and I loved the sauce but my daughter felt it was weird... Had to order bread to soak up the leftover sauce, and then got the almond tart for dessert and a cappuccino because it looked so good and it was! Highly recommend. and its rare that we get dessert, but the

when they got rid of the in-store grocery & pre made snack selection, i said, ok whatever fine. but when they got rid of the egg & cheese breakfast sandwich, i said, wtf, that was literally the best and most affordable item on the whole menu. i would eat it whenever i was having a rough day or when i had family in town that i wanted to impress. i'm telling you that sandwich was in a league of it's own. when rolo's first opened you would see construction workers eating there now it's just another overpriced bougie transplant hot spot.

Finally made it all the way to Ridgewood for brunch at Rolo's and it was well worth it. I was surprised by how big the restaurant is, very nicely designed with a cozy atmosphere. Our server was friendly and informative. We started with the Calabrian chili butter polenta bread, which was so fluffy and addictive, it was gone in a flash. We paired it with the soppressata - great combo. The Golden Beets were bright and tasty. Moving on with the mains, both the Ricotta Cavatelli and Chicken and Waffles were solid. The Crispy Potatoes "war style" were a revelation. We saw a number of them on other tables, so we knew we had to get them. Finally, the housemade ice cream was outstanding! I'm so glad I finally made it here and look forward to coming back for more.

Another outstanding visit here, this time for brunch with a party of four. We got all three polenta breads, the sticky bun, mortadella, stracciatella, the Szechuan cabbage, two orders of chicken and waffles, two cheeseburgers, the war-style potatoes, and literally all four ice cream flavors. This was more food than we needed, but everything was excellent, and I'd get all of it again. My wife really loved her burger, and I thought the chicken & waffles were really great, albeit very heavy (obviously). The cabbage was probably the most controversial dish we got -- I loved it, but nobody else enjoyed the extreme mala flavor on them. Of the ice cream flavors, chocolate and vanilla were our favorites. (The honey pistachio was more honey than pistachio, and I'd have preferred the reverse.)

Was a bit skeptical while looking at this menu and was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. I had the chicken and waffles and really enjoyed it not being overly sweet. The chicken was tender, crispy, and juicy. My sister had the crispy lady (I think that's what it was called) and my brother in law got the radicchio steak Caesar salad that was out of this world. Service was fast and friendly. Outdoor seating was cleverly separated and heated which was perfect for the chili day. The inside looked a little cramp, but was decorated nicely. Would definitely go back.

I was here with a bunch of others celebrating someone's birthday. They set up essentially a tasting menu which we shared between I believe five or six people per side and we had more than enough food. Well I don't think everything worked well, overall it was quite delicious and I would go back even though I wasn't exactly a big fan of the surrounding area. The service was casual and pleasant. I went with the Pedro Martinez with house rum blend, Volume Primo vermouth, Pedro Ximénez, and amontillado sherry. Well I'm a Yankee fan, I would say in this case I'm voting for Pedro. Tasty strong cocktail and others loved theirs. Breads-Woodfired polenta bread, olive oil and flaky salt- The very warm bread had a pleasant texture. We also got bread with sesame and wild oregano which I preferred with it reminding me heavily of za'atar outside of it missing the lemon flavor. While I prefer not paying for bread, this was worth it.Appetizers-Straciatella, silk chili, sumac- This was probably my favorite appetizer if not my favorite dish. The wonderfully creamy cheese was enhanced by the silk chili (aka Aleppo chili) which added a slight bitterness and the sumac added some sourness.Cheesy potato croquettes- Little pillowy fried goodness. Not much to complain.Golden beets, aged gouda, orange vinaigrette- The yellow beets were served chilled I would describe it as refreshing. Tasty and while I'm not usually a big fan of gouda, whatever type they use here is delicious.Straciatella, silk (aka Aleppo) chili, sumacGolden beets, aged gouda, orange vinaigretteTahini chickpeas: Others loved it but this was my least favorite. I didn't think the texture worked well and the tahini overwhelmed the chickpeas.Mains- Wood-fired half chicken, muhammara, walnuts, chili oil- This was easily my favorite of the main dishes. The chicken was moist and perfectly prepared and the dish had a good nutty and roasted pepper flavor from the muhammara (a Lebanese red pepper and walnut dip.) would recommend heavily and would order as a main dish if I was not ordering in a group.Wagyu beef skirt steak, green garlic butter- I liked how thin the pieces were as it was cooked quite rare so it had a bit of a chew (a bit too much in some pieces.) There was a ton of flavor and it was almost a bit too rich.Ricotta cavatelli, sage, brown butter, parmesan- This was my least favorite dish. There was way too much cheese and the entirety of it tasted like parmesan. Just unbalanced and I didn't think the pasta texture was good also.SidesGrilled greens, garlic confit, lemon. Good sourness from the lemon and the greens had a very light bitterness. I'm not exactly sure what type of greens it was but the texture was nice.Crispy potatoes- Solid roasted crispy potatoes. Nothing to really comment on.Desserts- I personally got an affogato for dessert being already quite full. Instead of the usual ice cream, I got the honey pistachio which was outstanding. I'm not sure if they get the ice cream from somewhere else but wherever it is, I want more of it. Another person got the citrus dessert which had some tasty meringue. Interesting mix of textures though I found it a bit bitter. It oddly reminded me of a creamsicle. There was also a chocolate cake which was forgettable (nice texture but bland.)Overall outside of the dessert and one main dish, the food was excellent here. Nice mix of flavors but nothing too overwhelming. I can see why this place is popular. Mid 4.

Excellent experience!! Had the most delicious wine based off of our servers recommendation and they also recommended the lasagna which blew us out of the water! Wouldnt have gotten the lasagna without the recommendation but I'm so glad we did. Food and Service was excellent! Shoutout Bennet who was awesome! Will be back

This place is amazing! My girlfriend and I went twice in the same day after our first visit. We just couldn't and still can't get enough! The food is awesome! Everything is good and you really can't go wrong. Smoky stuff cooked over the open fire are highly suggested. The drinks and service are also top notch. Check them out!

AMAZING!!!! Everything we ate was absolutely spectacular, we had 11 courses and wouldn't change a single thing about any dish. The Waygu in particular was exquisite and perfectly done, definitely the best steak I'd have in quite a while. Harrison was a very personable and knowledgeable server, and he made fantastic recommendations! Kudyba gave us a few extra drinks that were wonderful, just because we loved everything we had so much! Claire and RJ at the bar were very sweet, the drinks they made us were perfect; balanced and so delicious. Will recommend this place forever and will be back soon!!

Always used to come here when Rolo's was mainly a cafe to get sandwiches, foccacia, and coffee, which all were amazing. We finally made it to their dinner service and it did not disappoint. Because we were celebrating an anniversary, our awesome waitress, Stephanie, filled us up with complimentary glasses of Prosecco. To start, we had the potato croquettes and wood fired polenta bread with Calabrian chili butter (both not pictured, but very delicious). We each had a spicy pineapple margarita which was just enough spice, not overpowering at all like other spicy margs I have had. We also ordered to share ricotta cavatelli (savory) and the rigatoni (spicy) - both so full of flavor and delicious. Stephanie recommended getting the grilled pea greens, which reminded me of broccoli rabe - it was a great suggestion and went well with our pasta dishes. For dessert we ordered one decaf cappuccino and house-made roasted peanut and fudge swirl ice cream, which was absolutely incredible! Rolo's is really a crown jewel within our lovely Ridgewood community. Thank you for a great ambience and experience!
