Exceptional quality of food and service.
For steak, the best. All around knowledgeable staff. Service oriented. Every dish is wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on a Thursday night.
Parking was easy to find. Everyone was welcoming. We sat at a table in the back. I can admit the tables were pretty close together but we were ok. The service here is immaculate. They even cleaned the crumbs off our table after every course. We started out with complementary bread and butter which was good. We then ordered the dry aged steak, lobster mac, salmon, mash, and regular mac n cheese. Everything was good and the food came out within reasonable timing. For dessert we had the butter cake. We ended up spending $200+ for two people. All in all, a good restaurant that I would come back to for a special occasion.

I've been to roots 2 times: once when they had outdoor dining during the pandemic, and once recently. The atmosphere and service at roots is great, and what you would expect from a restaurant in the city. The drink options are wide, and the popovers are a unique start to the meal. However, I would say the sides and desserts are better then the steak- we ordered the dry-aged steak and the beef Wellington, both of which needed more salt and were not as flavorful as we'd hoped.
Be the first to ReplyLove Roots - regardless the location.
Food is always delicious (even if the menu never really changes, at least you know things are consistently good). Ambience is great, classic dark wood bar, tasteful lighting, no televisions (amen!). This location had a weird and not-well-known unofficial "reservation policy" for bar seating which was annoying for those who were unaware (you'd be standing at the bar waiting for a space to open up, and when seats eventually turned over the bartenders would deny you a seat in favor of someone "one the list" - what??). Fortunately, management learned about that "policy" and squashed it. Service is impeccable, cocktails well made. Love.

Celebrated my husband's birthday last night with my daughter and her fiancรฉ. The food was exceptional! Highlights were the Shrimp Scampi appetizer, the seafood Platter, and slab bacon. Steaks were perfectly cooked and the wild mushrooms side and potatoes au gratin were delicious. Applause to chef Tommy for an incredible meal! Shout out to Brittany at the bar for excellent cocktails and Troy for excellent service!
Be the first to ReplyI came here with my parents a few months ago.
As usual, Roots rustic ambiance, excellent food/drinks and impeccable service did not disappoint! I ordered the surf and turf and it was cooked to perfection. Our server was prompt, polite and checked in frequently without being overbearing or annoying. The cocktails were unique and stellar. I'm so thankful that such a high quality restaurant exists in both Summit and Morristown. This steak house competes with all of the upper echelon ones in Manhattan. It's just as good as Keehn's and other prominent city destinations. Highly recommend!

I gave this upscale restaurant one star only because of what I witness sitting at the bar having dinner on March 26,2024. I witness one bartender sneeze in both hands and continue to make drinks, touching glasses by the rim, touching straws ..etc and never washed his hands. I WAS LIVID ! next I witness a different bartender touch a lemon by the lemon itself, then he took 3 olive with his bear hands and started moving them back and forth on a toothpick. At that point i was so ready to go because I could only imagine what they did in the kitchen area. These people can care less abt sanitation. I wanted to say something but my husband didn't abt me to create a seen...which I only wanted to tell the manager. However I knew I would make this known via review. I know alot of restaurants have been in compliance these bartenders was doin it in the wide opening.
Be the first to ReplyMy brother had introduced me to the Roots Steakhouse in
My brother had introduced me to the Roots Steakhouse in Morristown, which I had loved. So, I was looking forward to my recent lunch at their Summit location. While not as big or spacious as the Morristown one, Summit had a very rustic, masculine vibe. They had complementary, Roots-personalized golf tees near the front door, which made sense, as it really seemed like a place for the upscale, golf audience. We were seated at a round table in their middle dining room, which had one stone wall and the rest made of windows, which allowed us to watch the hustle and bustle around the restaurant. Once we got settled, we each received a large, cheesy and airy popover. Those fluffy pastries appeared to be so light that it was easy to overlook how fattening they probably were! I paired mine with one of the mocktails that was called something starting with the word, "Zest"...It contained the non-alcoholic spirit, Seedlip, as well as NA prosecco, and one of two gave the drink a slightly "off" flavor. The mocktail also had a bunch of fruity and citrus notes, which helped minimize the strength of the bizarre NA flavor that tried to immerge. We ordered a bunch of appetizers for the table, though I only sampled a few. The Yellowfin Tuna Tartare was excellent! The diced fish was extremely fresh and tender. It was served over crushed, ripe avocado, but the two layers were separated by crispy wontons, which was an unique take I had never seen elsewhere. The crunchies were texturally appreciated, though they could have included less of them. The whole thing was topped with fresh ginger, black sesame seeds, wasabi cream, and ponzu sauce. I adored the zest from the added ginger, which offered a real kick. The Crispy Wagyu Dumplings were too fried for my liking, but the steak inside was flavored with what we believed was soy sauce and perhaps sesame oil; it was a very interesting rendition. For my main course, I went with the Chopped Salad, which included iceberg and romaine lettuces, tomato, corn, broccoli, carrots, feta, cucumber, and asparagus. I thought that the salad could have used much more of each of the ingredients, as it was mainly lettuce. In fact, the included romaine was even a bit wilted. I had added 3 shrimp to the salad, though I found it odd that I would need to select a preferred number. It turned out that they charged $7 per shrimp, which had not been listed on the menu. Thankfully, they were jumbo-sized and more like prawns; they were also perfectly cooked and the best part of the dish. I had ordered the salad's black peppercorn dressing on the side, which I was thankful for, as it was very thick and creamy. While each person at the table had ordered their own entrรฉe, we decided to share a few sides, though I did not personally try any of them. However, I particularly heard rave reviews about the Whipped Potatoes, which were very smooth. Lastly, it was one of my dining companion's birthdays, so the restaurant sent out a complementary ice cream sundae that was large enough for the 6 of us. The restaurant called it "The Roots Super Sundae". While I did not taste this either, it also received positive remarks. The monstrosity was served as a giant martini glass that was holding an ice cream cone bowl filled with chocolate and vanilla scoops. On the dish, surrounding the large glass, were a bunch of semi-sweet chocolate cups that held a variety of toppings like sprinkles and M&M's. There were also little pitchers of chocolate fudge. Essentially, it was a "build-your-own" ice cream delight, which was such a fun way to end our lunch. After having two excellent meals at two different Roots locations, I could honestly say that it was one of the top steakhouses in New Jersey. It was perfect for our special occasion meal and would be for yours, as well!

Very disappointed that the Tailors Plate looked like a dried hockey puck with 2 little dried up shrimp for $52.00 and basically regular french fries for $13.95. My friend had the sliders which were tasty and the caesar salad which looked and tasted like the bagged salad from shop rite. The wait staff was very courteous and accommodating. This place is not worth the prices.

Saturday after valentines . Could only get 4:30. Ok called me ,texted me to make sure I didn't cancel. Got a tiny little table. Hardly anyone there. Ordered the stone crab. Thought the waiter that we could barely understand said 4 for $18.95. No,1 small stone crab for $18.95! And we did ask him to repeat . Why not just post the price. Feels deceptive. Hot popovers was a nice touch. Potatoe Augratin were disgusting. Tasted like nothing but onion. Creamed spinach was good. Got the cowboy steak. I know it has fat but was an overwhelming amount. Steak was good, just a lot of fat. I think there are much better steakhouses and staff. They gave a nice ice cream dessert for a birthday complimentary. Was nice. Was a very expensive meal that felt very mediocre.
Be the first to ReplyThe service is wonderful.
Steaks are good. Not cheap but worth it. It's a very comfortable and colorful setting.
Be the first to ReplyRoots steakhouse is a lively scene that's great for a night
Roots steakhouse is a lively scene that's great for a night with family, friends, coworkers and/or a date. The restaurant was nicely busy on a Saturday night. We hade reservations and were sat promptly at our reservation time. Our table was next to the bar which although was busy, didn't negatively impact our evening. Our server John was very pleasant and knowledgeable. He recommended dishes based on our preferences and nice wine pairings. The burrata was good, but firmer. Personally I prefer a creamier, looser burrata but it was still good. The shrimp cocktail was fresh and cooked nicely. We shared the porter house for 2 with three sides the mushrooms, broccoli and asparagus. The mushrooms side dish was the best of the three. The filet pice of the porterhouse has tremendous flavor and texture. We celebrated my birthday and was brought a Sundae on the house. It was a such a nice surprise and yummy! I had a really nice experience and look forward to going back.

I went for a week day lunch and had oysters and filet mignon at the bar by myself. The service was good and polite. The place is quite attractive.Finished with crรจme brรปlรฉe and espresso.I enjoyed this caloric overload thoroughly. It's not cheap!I appreciate the lack of loud blasting music which drives me nuts and keeps me from relaxing. I was waiting for my to complete a procedure at Overlook Hospital which is about a 10 minute walk from here.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time there.
Food was excellent. Prices were reasonable. Drinks were made to perfection Bartender Tony makes the best Dirty blue cheese martini. And Luis our server was IMPECCABLE!!! Service was OUTSTANDING. Not pictured, the brussel sprouts with bacon and the creamed spinach. Everything was excellent. Definitely recommend

I came back for another try - it's been a few years, and I hoped they'd improved to match their sister restaurant in Morristown. They have a good bar, and three of their own beers, I like the Ghost Pony. A starter of a popover which I don't like nearly as much as regular bread with some olive oil & vinegar, but others at the table enjoyed them hot and with butter.Appetizers: NJ BURRATA15.95 RHODE ISLAND CRISPY CALAMARI15.95CRISPY WAGYU DUMPLINGS18.95- NJ burrata was lovely, and refreshing.- The calamari was not as good as I remember it (but still a touch spicy which was good)- Waygu dumplings... you defeat the purpose of waygu by grinding up the meat - it literally could've been any fatty beef in a dumpling (which was also deep fried..eh, that made it more like a fried wonton than anything) - couldn't tell it was waygu at all. Will skip this next time. Two steaks we shared for 4 at the table:20 OZ DRY AGED COWBOY STEAK 55.9542 OZ PRIME PORTERHOUSE STEAK FOR TWO149.95 - The cowboy steak was delicious, fatty and rich - The prime porterhouse was even better, though, with the filet mignon almost melting when eaten - very tasty.Sadly, no more prime rib! I'd come here looking forward to it, but that was a post-COVID casualty, they said.Sides: Mac & cheese was good, au gratin potatoes were layers and not easy to eat... skip that one. The brussell sprouts were better shaved in the past, the half version was less flavorful.Desserts:ROOTS WARM BUTTER CAKE12.95FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE CAKE12.95A butter cake w/ blueberry compote, and a fruit jam was excellent, and the flourless chocolate cake with vanilla gelato was better than expected, too (though still pretty sweet).Overall, better than last time, miss that prime rib, but they're working on getting it right with the dishes. Friendly staff and quick change of plates between courses. If you're looking for it, there's a glass side room for bigger parties, and the side door leads to the bathrooms downstairs.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome place.
High end but prices not outrageous. A must even if only for special occasions.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely the best venue for a wedding dinner.
I recently had my son's wedding dinner in the Stone Room. We were greeted immediately by the staff and taken directly to the room which was prepared exquisitely for my party of nine. The wait staff was fantastic. Our favorite waiter Meiner (I am sure I butchered his name) led the waiters in providing us magnificent and attentive service. We wanted for nothing. The appetizers were delicious and ample as always. Drinks flowed without interruption and no glass remained empty for long. The staff was fire. Dinner at Roots is always an event in itself. Steaks and sides cooked to perfection every time. Everyone in my party had a fantastic time and even took home leftovers. My prime aged cowboy steak is always too much for just one sitting. I want to thank everyone at Roots and Harvest Restaurants for making my son's wedding dinner unforgettable. Bravo!

Be the first to ReplyMy sister and I took our father to Roots for his birthday.
My dad and I had the NY strip which was delicious. My sister had the cowboy steak and she enjoyed her meal as well. We even had a little birthday treat at the end. We were waited on my Emilia who was fantastic! She was attentive, funny, and kind. She helped make my dad's birthday dinner super special. If you are able to be seated with her you'll have a great time.
Be the first to Replyamazing food & even better service.
definitely will make it a point to come back in the future !!
Be the first to ReplyVery reliable, if you treat it as an old school steakhouse.
Terrific NY strips, sides well executed, professionals working the house, proper gin martinis served icy cold.
Be the first to ReplyWhatta night.
This was the first date night out as new parents without our baby boy.. definitely get weird but what a fantastic meal. Surf & turf was cooked perfectly and now I know why they're espresso martini was voted one of the best in NJ...Such a unique old school NYC steakhouse vibe and this is def one of my favorite locations of the "chain"
Be the first to ReplyWent Friday night, which was COLD.
Only gripe was they sat us right inside door.....every time the door opened (frequently!), cold air came pouring in. Put a space heater in the vestibule or on cold nights simply don't submit your guests to that table/booth! Otherwise, meal was good. Had the WEDGE OF CHILLED ICEBERG LETTUCE, ROOTS TAILORS PLATE and finished with POPOVER BREAD PUDDING. 1 star deduction for keeping that table open.
