Old venerable restaurant
Exceptionally pleasant experience, with fantastic traditional food and very friendly and helpful staff. Picturesque surroundings.
Be the first to Reply***** local dining experience
Very pleasant experience recommended by a local resident. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and experience. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations for dishes and wine. Reservations seem essential. Many people arrived at the door and were turned away while we were sitting there. Only complaint was the "soft rock" sound track to our dinners: Simon and Garfunkel and similar (?!).

Attentive service from the owner, who obviously has many regulars. Food was good and wine recommendations more useful than (extensive) wine list. Very cosy which gives atmosphere but can feel cramped.

I looked it up online and made a reservation. It seems that this restaurant started out as an importer of Italian ingredients, and the interior is decorated with photographs and letters from that time, giving it an antique feel and a very relaxing atmosphere. The menu is handwritten on a blackboard, but the staff explained everything carefully in English. I ordered 'Nduja Arancini, Fenek Moqli, a Maltese specialty roast rabbit, and roast duck. The dishes are generally elegantly seasoned, but the 'Nduja has quite a spicy punch (although they did tell me that when I ordered). I was very satisfied to be able to eat local food. The tiramisu dessert was also very delicious.

A patient and warm welcome and service for the group of 16 boisterous French people that we are, a room for us and succulent, fresh, local cuisine For the first time in Malta, good hot bread and little things to nibble on as an aperitif No cocktails apart from gin and tonic and Negroni and Spritz

We did not have a booking but spotted a busy restaurant from outside. There was one table free and the host was welcoming and talked us through the menu. They brought out bread baskets which had the best bread I've ever had, absolutely lovely food and wine, and dessert too. Really loved this place thank you

When I first went last summer I was surprised. Place is small and super cozy... I was quite satisfied but nothing else. I went again for Xmas with the office and then I realized the value of the restaurant... We had both fish and meat dishes. So I deduced to take there my parents this weekend. To be honest I would never change a good Italian restaurant, but this one is making me change opinion. Well done... Staff professional and super nice

Made to feel very welcome on arrival in this atmospheric and characterful restaurant. There was a nice range of specials on the board from which we chose the Roman artichokes, which were wonderful. Our mains were Orecchiette Maltese sausage and Nduja, which had an amazing flavour and perfectly cooked pasta. We had two half bottles of Maltese wine, one white and one red, which perfectly complimented the food, as recommended by our helpful waiter.

Awful service! Food is not good at all. Do not bother going to this place really. There are other better places in la valleta. Wouldn’t recommend or go there again.

Average food in my opinion, maybe I ordered badly, fish fritters followed by Rabbit (very bony) wife had steak that she liked. Service very good and owner very friendly
Be the first to ReplyBest meal in Valletta
Best meal in Valletta thus far. Delicious local fare prepared well at a reasonable price. Lively, cozy atmosphere. Nice local wines.
Be the first to ReplyAn excellent choice!
Rubino was recommended by our hotel, Casa Ellul, and we loved it! They specialise in traditional Maltese- Italian food and it's very good indeed. The staff were super friendly and patient in their explanations of the menu. It's a stylish restaurant, clearly popular with locals, so wise to book. If we return to Valletta, which we hope to, we would look forward to dining again at Rubino. Highly recommended!

I have to rate this unassuming little restaurant among the best places I have ever eaten. From the welcome from the patron, to the interesting space and decor, with acres of white table linen (as my friend know, I hate bare tables and paper napkins!), via the professional yet relaxed and friendly service, to the really outstanding food and the well-constructed wine list — all was as good as it could be. I can’t wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere and the food was just delicious
We had a brief holiday in beautiful Valletta through the carnival, and ate really good food throughout Valletta but the food here was delicious!

We'd been impressed by the Michelin signage so booked a table. I'm just writing this review based on my experience. The server discussed the menu and mentioned that there was one helping of sardines left. He didn't explain how they were cooked but I like sardines and ordered them. When they came, they were baked or deep fried together in a sort of slightly burned brick, which I could barely cut with my knife. I did my best to eat them without complaint because my friends all seemed to be happy with their starters. I ordered lamb for a main course and I thought it was overdone. Not a sign of pink. Overall: for me, a very disappointing meal.

We had a fantastic dinner experience, the restaurant is very small but the it still keeps the old time restaurants vibe. Had a full menu, starter, main and desert, everything was very good. I would highly recoomend the risotto, the sardines starters and for the main the rabbit was very good. For desert, the panacotta is very nice. A very nice experience overall. The serving was also very good.
Be the first to ReplyLamb - with Nero di sepia! Hectic good!
Delicious- contemporary food using top quality ingredients! Highly recommended! Rosemary risotto - red prawn carpaccio and lamb with Nero di sepia grilled salad definitely worth trying.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding service
The restaurant with long history and charm. Premises are small and cozy. The owner himself does the service at the tables, every move and touch has a personal attitude. Most of the meals represent local food culture.
Be the first to ReplyPaul’s last night so there’s nowhere else to go
The complimentary bread and dips were as excellent as usual. I ordered the chicken livers and he ordered the carpaccio but Toni wasn’t happy with the chicken livers and thought Paul should alter his starter since he’d be having beef & beef. So went with his advice I then had the carpaccio and he’d opted for the cuttlefish. Neither of use were disappointed. The mains of steak and pork belly were also fabulous a great end to his visit.
Be the first to ReplyAnother fantastic dining experience in Malta!
Our Maltese culinary experience continues to amaze with our latest dinner at Rubino this time. A quaint restaurant located a few streets away from Republic Street turned out to be quite the hidden gem. The simple, unassuming exterior led into a lovely, cozy interior. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. Our meals were very delicious. It is somewhat pricey but well worth it as the quality of the food is exceptional.

Be the first to ReplySmall restaurant but so good!
The staff was really friendly. The food was delicious! It's better to make a reservation since it is a beautiful small restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful but make sure you book
Thank you to Edward for looking after all of us and all the brigade. Exceptional food as ever we’ve never had anything but splendid food here. A last night meal for our friends before departing for the UK. The photos speak for themselves!
Be the first to ReplyA nice diner place
The food was good, but we had diner in the underground, which is not very enjoyable. The service was so so. The rabbit was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely excellent in every way
The hotel manager recommended this place just down the street. I looked at the reviews and checked out the menu and decided to make a booking. Warmly greeted and seated. The menu was explained to us. While mulling our options we were served lovely bread along with white bean spread and caponata. We split an order of the spaghetti with sea urchin which was terrific. Husband ordered the rabbit and i had the stuffed sea bream. The entrees were served with potatoes and vegetables. We ordered and split the SIcilian cassata. Service was just wonderful throughout our meal. We thought the price of USD 98more than reasonable for what we ate along with a bottle of wine and a bottle of water. Valletta is a small city and this place is absolutely worth seeking out. Booking is definitely recommended as the place is not large.
