Best Gaspe Nova in the city -- if not on the entire Eastern seaboard. Did I mention halvah ice cream, by the way? Or the chocolate babka? And the onion bialys? And the smoked whitefish? Simply insane.

I have visited this museum numerous times over the years. When I'm ready to eat I just go to the counter and purchase something rather than sit down to dine. There's a bench nearby that's usually empty so I sit there. The bathroom is just down the hall. It's very convenient because after my lunch I can return to the museum exhibits. The food is a little pricey but I don't eat here often. I usually get a bagel and cream cheese or a sandwich. Everything is quality ingredients fresh prepared daily. I'm never disappointed. If you visit the museum I recommend you either make a reservation (way in advance) for the dining room, or just grab something at the deli counter like I do.

To be fair, when looking at Google it does show the location in upper east side as temp closed.

Visited this place before the COVID pandemic hit, and it was really worthwhile. The bagels and lox were delicious. Line was a bit long, but moved pretty quick.

Delicious!! I had the scrambled eggs with salmon, on the recommendation of the server. So good! And then I had some babka French toast.....*still drooling*. The service was great too! I will definitely be back the next time I am in NY!

I loved the brunch here! The Classic Board with the bialy was delicious and filling. We also tried the Eggs Benny, which was absolutely amazing. I will never go back to eggs Benedict on any bread but challah! Their house coffee is really great, which pleasantly surprised me- since it isn't a coffee shop, my hopes weren't that high. It was very crowded but we were seated immediately. It was definitely on the expensive side, but gratuity is included so you don't have to worry about tipping.Eating here made a day at the museum so much more of a cultural experience, and it made for a very memorable day. Will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyA lot of money for not so great food.
I ordered the smoked tuna on a bagel. The bagel was small, the tuna salty. There were four very thin slices, maybe an ounce or two of tuna. There was not more than two tablespoons of cream cheese. The tomato garnish was mealy. The capers unbelievably salty. The red onion was too sharp. The coffee was Ok. We ordered a noodle kugel. It did not look like or taste like any other kugel I have eaten. I could not find any evidence of noodles! There was no flavor. It did not taste sweet and buttery. It had no seasoning. Forget about fruit or cheese. it was a small ramekin of slightly sweet egg custard. It was a huge disappointment.Service was polite and the atmosphere was very pleasant. However, it was very expensive and just not worth the money. I realize that it is the upper east side, but give me a break. Any bagel shot in NYC would have better food and certainly more food for a lot less money. Probably the best place to have a good bagel and yummy filling is at Zabar's cafe. What it lacks in atmosphere it makes up in really good food a very affordable price. My personal favorite is the white fish salad on the pumpernickel bagel. Enjoy!

The smoked salmon is high quality, but you pay for it. I won't pay to eat in the restaurant - it's way too overpriced for what you get, and they make you check your stroller; but we get take out from time to time. The smoked salmon differs in price depending on which kind you buy, but we've paid up to $56 for a pound, $12 for a loaf of pumpernickel bread. Everything tastes fresh.

I am shocked it doesn't have a higher rating. I consider myself a connoisseur of bagels and lox, and this was the ABSOLUTE, HANDS DOWN best I've ever had. So was the kugel, knishes, whitefish, and babka. I could not recommend it more highly.

My classic nova sandwich on pumpernickel was divine but the egg cream was subpar. Not enough chocolate too much milk or the seltzer was flat and worse of all no creamy head. A lost art I guess.

Ate here over the weekend! It's conveniently located inside the basement of the Jewish Museum. There's usually a wait during prime time but they can text you when your table is ready which makes it easy to walk around the gift shop and kill time. The menu has a little bit of everything for everyone. I do find that the prices are a little on the high side for the portions (more expensive than the Russ and Daughters downtown location) but the foot itself is delicious. The staff is helpful and nice. I got the omelette with a knish on the side and my husband got one of the lox boards.
