Just go to Tompkins! Very stingy with the cream cheese.
The bagel itself was okay but paying 6 bucks for a small blob of cream cheese. Very disappointed.

There's a very long wait whenever you go but it is honestly so worth it. Hands down the best lox bagel I've ever had in my life. I would do anything to be able to go back to NYC just to enjoy this again. The lox, cream cheese, and bagel all are delicious and work together in harmony. It was super packed inside but the service was quick and right to the point. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing bagels, really long line though.
You need to take a ticket and wait, but the line moves pretty quickly. About 15-20 minutes on a Monday morning for me. The bagels were made with care, toasty, and they are generous with the salmon! They're probably the best and most expensive bagels I've ever had. Would def recommend trying!

We knew we needed to try one of the most famous bagel places in the city. Luckily there was a location just a couple blocks down from our hotel. Saw that you had to grab a ticket at the front and wait for your number to be called in order to place your order. It was a little confusing for newcomers since half of the people did not grab a number but stood in a line that went no where. Luckily it went rather quickly and we were able to order: the classic lox on an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese, orange juice, and a slice of their babka (about $30 total for all). I can see why they are so popular- the quality of the smoked salmon was insanely fresh and paired well with the scallion cream cheese that was recommended to us. The bagel was nice and chewy but fluffy? So delicious for breakfast and worked with the orange juice. The babka piqued my interest and I am so glad I got to try it. It was a soft, perfectly sweet and chocolately goodness that I wish I could eat again. Happy we were able to try Russ & Daughters after hearing about it for while. It was well worth the hype even if it's on the pricier side, but what isn't these days?

Pro tip - Read the menu and walk in ready to order!! Space is clean and fun to look at. There's knick knacks all over the place to enjoy. If it's busy, you pull a number and wait for someone to call that ticket. If it's not busy, an employee will call you over right away. Don't forget to look back to see if anyone is waving you over to help you! No indoors table seating. Grab and goooooo! Two benches outside if you're lucky to snag a seat. They are generous with the cream cheese and capers. Yum. Egg Bagel was a perfect balance to the salty fillings.

If this is seriously a new york bagel I have no clue what all of the hype is about. It just tastes like every bakery bagel I've ever had.

Warning: GoldBelly's Bad Service is a RIPOFF! I was excited to try GoldBelly's food delivery service, especially to taste Russ and Daughters' famous Lox and Cream Cheese from New York. But my experience turned sour when my order, supposed to arrive in Florida on Saturday, didn't show up until two days later. When it finally arrived, the food was SPOILED because it had been left in a hot truck for too long - and missed the delivery date 2 days earlier. When I complained to GoldBelly, they refused to give me a refund, even though they were responsible for the mess. It's clear they don't care about their customers or the quality of their service. The wanted to refund me for just the lox and cream cheese and charge me for the remaining order and $70 shipping fees (that they delivered 2 days too late)! Don't waste your money on GoldBelly. RUSS & DAUGHTERS should do better!!! Look into all the complaints online about Gold Belly. They'll ruin your order and leave you disappointed with no refund in sight. A stain on Russ and Daughters which is a great place in person. BUT DO NOT USE GOLD BELLY to deliver from.
Be the first to ReplyI'm a big fan of Russ & Daughters and love the whole back
I'm a big fan of Russ & Daughters and love the whole back story of how the daughters contribute and took over the family business. The bagels are amazing, I love the smears, my favorite is the veggie smear. The lox is great here, I make sure to always order it, it tastes fresh. The staff is welcoming and even with long lines they stay cool and collected.
Be the first to ReplyIt's a hefty price to pay for fish and bagel, but nowhere
It's a hefty price to pay for fish and bagel, but nowhere else does it like Russ & Daughters imo. Their smoked salmon is the best I've ever had and they even have unique fish options such as sturgeon, a variety of lox, and whitefish spread. My go to sandwich is the Daughter's Delight on an Everything Bagel with Scallion Cream Cheese. I remember enjoying the Horseradish Dill Cream Cheese on a previous visit. I was surprised by how tasty the Salt Bagel is too. Our server was also nice enough to cut our bagel into shareable bite sizes.
Be the first to ReplyI've been here twice with gift certificates and each time
I've been here twice with gift certificates and each time spent my gift largely on nova / smoked salmon and have been very happy. The nova is comparable in price to other places that sell it. Other items seems more than usually expensive, If prices were lower, I'd give the fifth star.I noticed some of the other reviewers commented on getting "lox" and that it was very salty. The store distinguishes between "lox" and other types of smoked salmon. I asked the salesperson about the lox and was told that it was very salty. My guess is that some of the other reviewers thought they were getting smoked salmon and were startled to bite into "lox."

Probably my favorite bagel place in the city, after having tried a few of the famous ones.First pro tip, order online for pickup to save yourself time in waiting in the really long line. Tbh I don't know what makes "the perfect nyc bagel." I've heard that bagels don't need to be toasted but still have the right texture, and I'd say this came closest to that. Btw the bagels in nyc are never toasted unless you ask! The first time I went here, there was the perfect ratio of cream cheese to lox (aka not too much cheese and a decent serving of lox). The second time there was too much cream cheese imo, so I guess it is hit or miss. This will still be the place I recommend for visitors though. Price is on par with other lox bagels in the city - almost $20...but it is a large portion. Definitely not a weekly thing for me though haha
Be the first to ReplyA very solid bagel.
I'm not a huge bagel person but these were great. This is definitely up your alley if you like lox or other smoked fish. No place to eat inside.
Be the first to ReplyBest lox bagels hands down! Very busy place.
Upon entering we grabbed a ticket and waited outside until the number they were on was about 5 away. (There is a number ticket machine inside and a sign that can be seen outside with what number they are working on) it's a pretty effective system but still crowded inside none the less. Once our number was called we told the guy helping us what we wanted. They quickly prepared our bagel. The bagel itself was delicious, the smoked salmon is one of the best I've tried. The bagel is pretty expensive but makes sense since they are using high quality fish. Definitely give this place a try if you're open to waiting!
Be the first to ReplyThe best smoked salmon on a bagel I have ever had.
Plus is that they offer dairy free vegan cream. This place is always crowded but the service is fast and most staff was friendly and willing to answer questions

So good! Definitely worth stopping in and grabbing a bagel lox if you're in NYC. Sometimes the wait is long but it's well worth it. Love this place.

A local favorite for NYC bagels! We ordered online for an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and tomato/onion topping. Our order was ready within ten minutes - lightning fast. Apparently online ordering doesn't give you hot bagel sandwiches, only cold ones so lesson learned but the cold bagel still tasted amazing for us. The inside was small and extremely crowded. Next time we'll brave the crowd for a fresh hot bagel sandwich
Be the first to ReplyTHINGS TO KNOW: 1) GRAB A TICKET.
there is no line. take a ticket and stand around until your number is called and then you can order.2) IT IS BUSY AND CROWDED. if you dont know what you want to order, everyone will be annoyed because you arent fast enough.3) THEY ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS & APPLE PAY! yay! (careful of the tip option tho if you are paying by card) expect to pay around $35-40 for 2 bagelsok, so the bf had me come get food here and by the time my number was called, the toaster broke. FOR REAL!?!? but i had been waiting for like 10+ minutes already. fuggitz. ordered anyway. THEY DO NOT HAVE LETTUCE. do yourself a favor, order one of the items on their menu. the workers arent good with remembering every ingredient to your liking the way you like it. a consequence of it being so busy. my bagel came with a lot of lox but not enough cream cheese. i came home and added lettuce and more cream cheese from my fridge and then it was perfect but tbh, i could have gotten the same everything lox bagel cream cheese capers onions lettuce tomato at literally any other bagel spot. just wanted to try this place because its highly rated on yelp. it was fine though. now i know for next time.
Be the first to ReplyLove this place.
The absolute most authentic "bagels and lox" joint we've ever been to. Tons of cream cheese and salmon flavors to choose from. And the customer service is spot on. Highly recommend. But get there early. The line gets long (which is a good sign). I suggest getting in line with a book or paper to read at 7:45!
Be the first to ReplyWell this exceeded my even high expectations.
The Sturgeon board was over the top good. The herring sampler was the best herring I've ever had. The server was so helpful and even enjoyed me geeking over being there and ordering so many items I wanted to try. I wish I could have those pickled tomatoes every morning.
Be the first to ReplyIf you're a fan of bagels periodt, this is the SPOT!!
If you're a fan of bagels periodt, this is the SPOT!! Plenty of different bagel options, from plain to everything from wheat to egg. Then combine that with soo many filling options, from smoked salmon to all kinds of cream cheeses! Definitely was a stop for us to load up on bagels and cream cheeses. Keep in mind that the wait might be long and to grab a ticket on arrival so you can be called upon!@phidingthefam
Be the first to ReplyI loved the whole experience! Taking a number.
People watching as you wait for your turn. All the smears, lox, delicacies to choose from was overwhelming! The bagel was delicious - I got the thin slices of red onion, tomatoes and capers on the side. It was a lovely breakfast I thoroughly enjoyed.
Be the first to ReplySolid bagel with smoked salmon.
Minus one star considering a bagel came up to almost $20 with tax. Make sure to grab a ticket when you walk in and don't block the door. You can walk to the back and just wait until your number is called. The bagel is solid. I got the everything bagel and got it toasted. It's worth it to get it toasted. The everything bagel was a bit salty. And adding capers and onions ($0.50 each) was probably a little too much saltiness. I would've left the capers out next time. Worth a try but probably wouldn't be worth it if it was a super long wait. I got there at 8am (when they open) and waited 15 mins. But anything above that, wouldn't be really worth it.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the musts in NYC to get a prime taste of Bagels.
Eat a Bagel could have been an alternative with equally long line. Anyway, here the line formation started with picking a number inside and waiting outside until they called one in to stand around in the packed inside for a bit longer. The whole process took close to an hour, and one might wonder whether that is worth it. But in any case, the bagels were absolutely spectacular and the experience at least once worth it. But would I become a regular - Nope.

Best bagels I've eaten on this rock we call earth and it's not close. This place does everything right. Tons of different cream cheese options. Fresh squeezed orange juice. My only disappointment was that I didn't go there every day that I was in Manhattan and didn't get to try one with lox. The cream cheese is light and fluffy and they don't skimp. The bagels are fresh and have the perfect texture. Definitely recommend getting them toasted. Take a number and enjoy the magic..
