Sato Omakase is a gem in San Francisco's Lower Nob Hill, and it's easy to see why it's a Michelin Guide recommendation. The 18-course menu, priced at $195 per person, promises an extravagant journey into culinary indulgence. Each dish is a masterpiece, featuring luxurious ingredients like truffles, Ossetra caviar, uni from Hokkaido and Santa Barbara, and even 24 karat gold. Having dined across NYC, LA, and SF, I can confidently say that Sato Omakase stands out as a memorable experience. The fear of leaving hungry was non-existent, as each dish left me utterly satisfied. The ingredients were fresh and meticulously chosen, sourced from places like Hokkaido, Spain, New Zealand, Tasmania, and Jeju Island. The service was impeccable, and the ambiance exuded sophistication.

Just had dinner here with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary. Alan was so good to us and the fish was fresh. Wonderful experience!!

Definitely an amazing night of dining! Highly recommend coming to this place if you enjoy omakase meals. Firstly the service here is great. The staff were very courteous and detail oriented. Our jackets were taken care of when we sat down at the bar. And once our meal was done they held out our coats for us to slip into them. The meal was $195 for about 14 to 15 courses. Each dish was flavorful and fresh. The use of ingredients were creative and had wonderful taste. And by the end of the meal we were full.

Delicious omakase! Came for a birthday celebration with a group of 7, and we were seated in a quiet and classy space in the back. The dishes were all incredible and our host Victor was very knowledgeable about the thinking and process behind several of the dishes. Cocktails were delicious as well. In addition to the highest quality and fresh fish, we were graced with the wonderful hospitality of the best sushi chef, Andy! He was great in making us feel welcome and comfortable, and took great care with each dish. It's evident he is incredibly skilled and we would come back just to enjoy his work again. The restaurant was also so wonderful in celebrating our friend's birthday with a piece of cheesecake on the house. Tip: definitely get the uni bowl if they offer it as a supplement! Absolutely incredible. Husband's review: Every piece of omakase was immaculately prepared to highlight the incredible quality of the fish. This was also the most pleasant experience I've ever had with a chef. Thanks Andy!

I came here with a group of friends to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had the private room in the back which made it more comfortable for us. The staff were all so sweet and attentive. We ordered a large sake bottle to pair with our omakase. Also, I got a Kawaii mock tail with a shot of vodka. It tasted sweet, light, and fruity. We started with the aperitif which was a refreshing sweet green juice. The presentation for all the dishes was pretty and eye catching. Everything tasted fresh. Though the shawn mushi and oyster was a little salty. The uni truffle bowl was really good! Each dish took time to come out. I wish it came out a little faster. This place was on the pricer side. Other than that, everything was great.

We had a private room for a party of 10. Amazing service from all the staff! There is street parking, but I recommend taking ride shares. Omakase $195 per person. (See attached menu for the list of items included in this set menu) Our server and chef thoroughly explained each item that was served. Everything was delicious and fresh. Melts in your mouth! Each item was beautifully presented. Highly recommend dining here for a special occasion! Bon appetite!

Food: 5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 5 Pros: This place is comparable to Omakase in Japan. Excellent service and quality - worth it for special occasions. Cons: Keep in mind that this is in a rougher part of town. Had to get around some interesting characters outside on the way in.
Be the first to ReplySimply fantastic.
For those of you that want an incredible omakase experience - nigiri focused with extra dishes and pairings - this is it. A few notes: - It was one of the only places that had availability when we booked... Which we thought maybe suggested it was not as well known. But it should be. - Their booking site on OpenTable has a couple different listings and one of them is for a special dining room with an Omakase experience and the other is for a regular table. It tries to convince you to book the special dining room, even if there is no availability there... But the regular dining room was great.... Makes me wonder what we missed by not eating in the special one. - The location is indeed adjacent to a grungier neighborhood but we liked the experience anyway. - The fatty tuna was perhaps the fattiest we've ever had stateside - and that's saying something. - Get a sake pairing. Ours was always good and sometimes sublime. One of the sakes we liked so much we bought a bottle to take home. Pricey but special.

Great ambience, impeccable service, carefully curated sake pairings. The layers of flavor were both complex and simple - definitely elevates your palette.

Everything was just great from start to finish.

Pleasantly surprised! We are always looking for good omakase places in San Francisco. Sato Omakase did not disappoint. Chef Aidan did a fantastic job is showcasing the menu. The fish was fresh and the flavors outstanding. Have a cocktail at the bar with Thiago after your dinner. We'll be back soon.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my favorite restaurant in SF.
Everything from the service to the ambience to the food is 5/5. Would heavily recommend for any special occasion or for a lavish date night. The Omakase menu changes time to time, but personal favorites include the Ceviche, Snapper, and Tuna.

An outstanding meal full of deluxe ingredients, served/plated with elegance! We did do the uni wagyu caviar bowl add-on, on top of the omakase. What a stunner that was; exceptionally creamy, fatty, and delicious! Service was nothing but phenomenal (complimentary champagne, too!) and ambiance was both casual yet sophisticated. An omakase price that I'm not sure I would go back to in relation to the amount/variety of food that is included. Nonetheless, this spot certainly makes a great date night with your partner or bestie!!
Be the first to ReplyPretty good Omakase experience.
However, the Omakase is very expensive for the amount of food you are getting. They also charge more than 20% of service charge on top of tax. So, be aware of the extras on top of $195 per person. In terms of food, everything was delicious and the chef was very friendly. The ambiance was very cozy, but, the restaurant is not located in the best area. There is a public parking right next to this place which is pretty convenient. However, it is $20 for a couple of hours.

WOW.The ambiance of this restaurant is moody, elegant, and very pleasing to the eyes. My party and I were led to the back of the restaurant and were seated at the private omakase bar. Everything from this point escalated exponentially! Before any food was served, an Amuse-Bouche was waiting for us with our plating set-up. Our server told us it would help stimulate our appetite and it definitely did the job. We were READY for the upcoming items. I will summarize the dishes and say that there weren't any items that i disliked. During previous omakase experiences that I've had, I notice that there are about 2-3 fish that don't stand out to me and don't meet the level of the entire dining experience. However, at Sato Omakase, ALL the fish dishes were top tier level. It's hard to pickout my top dishes.... but I would say the Chawan Mushi, the Zuke Akamii, the lobster, the Seki Aji, and the Chu Toro were AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. The Yuzu Pana Cotta was also out of this world good. I enjoyed the flow of the dishes as well. Basing off of previous omakase experiences again, it seems like others have stronger, well-performing, and/or heavier items in the middle of the course and the following dishes are okay. The flow at Sato Omakase felt more like a constant build up and made more sense to me. Sato Omakase is currently my #1 omakase restaurant and I would 100% recommend coming here for your next omakase experience!
Be the first to ReplyHands down one of my favorite omakase spots.
Such a lovely experience with excellent service. We were first welcomed at the door then was walked to the back to enter another room dedicated for the omakase experience. The staff was amazing and the atmosphere gave such a classy yet elegant feel. Starting off we were served with a drink and it was so refreshing. We sat at the bar and the chefs were amazing. They conversed with us from the start to finish. They were super funny and friendly as well. First got started with some appetizers - steamed egg, scallop, oyster and yellowtail. Wow these three were amazing and such a good way to start the dinner. Then came the nigiri (11 fish) and omg each fish was so amazing but i would say my top three were the uni, barracuda and tuna. Just amazing the flavors and texture. The chef was very understanding and considerate by asking if we needed more or less rice/wasabi. Then came the pouched lobster and that was amazing. The presentation was beautiful and I didn't want to eat it. Lastly it ended with miso soup and a panna cotta which was delicious. Although it was 10/10 experience it was on the pricier end. Definitely worth trying for special occasions.
Be the first to ReplyEverything about this place was nice.
The staff are very friendly and the service was outstanding. The ambience is perfect for a date night. Reserved for omakase and the chef was amazing as well as the food and drinks. Would highly recommend.
Be the first to Replynot sure why this place doesn't yet have a Michelin.
I've been to a few other highly-lauded omakase places in SF and Sato is still the best. The whole experience from the food to drinks to environs to service.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is crazy good.
When you step inside away from the addicts on the sidewalk, you walk into this serene, quiet, slowed down oasis. From the moment you sit down at the private sushi bar (we had a group of 8 with a private room), we knew we were in good hands. Every movement was deliberate, every ingredient was sourced impeccably, the sushi rice was the perfect temperature, etc.....Our sushi chef educated us on the different types, techniques of preparing sushi and the best way to eat it (all in one bite). At $200pp it's expensive but really really worth it. And you come out stuffed and wowed by the experience.
Be the first to ReplyWe've eaten at quite a few upscale / Michelin starred sushi
We've eaten at quite a few upscale / Michelin starred sushi restaurants, and honestly started feeling like they were too similar for too high of a price. Don't get me wrong, we looove good sushi but to pay $250+ per person when there are places where we can get amazing Omakase for under $70 didn't sit right with us. When we heard about Sato and their more California take on omakase, we decided to give them a try since we were in the area. Sato Omakase impressed us more than we expected, with the elegant decor, gracious service, excellent cocktails and creative take on Japanese sushi. The basics were evident but with some nice additions -- they didn't take it over the top like at Robin (which we also enjoyed by in a different way) -- teeing an elegant line between traditional Japanese and Western Influence. The cooked dishes were all very good, and I especially liked their cocktail and drink selection as well. At $195 per for omakase it's still expensive but more reasonable than other places. We did opt for the wine pairing, extra uni toro bowl, and some cocktails / whiskey to round out our meal. We were super stuffed for the uni toro bowl but it was excellent-- actually had a similar dish for a similar price at another restaurant the week before, but the quality and quantity at Sato much exceeded the other place. While we rarely go back to high end sushi restaurants, we both agreed we would definitely revisit Sato again. Highly recommended!

Sato is definitely on my top 3 omakase list for SF!Went with a friend and sat at the bar - first impression was great with the ambience and interior design.First three courses are delightful - especially the lobster! The right amount of butteriness and tenderness brings out the best flavor out of lobster.Every piece of nigiri was amazing - fresh fish, quality sushi rice - every cut was so good!!Would be great for either friends hangout or a date

Where do I even begin with this review? My fiance and I came on Wednesday for our first ever omakase, and we are SO glad we picked this place as our first. The staff was very attentive and informative, it was also cool to get a small tour of the location. The area for omakase is in the back which gives it a very intimate feel. If it's your first time doing omakase, I 100% recommend making your reservations to sit at the bar for the full experience. The food itself? Absolutely mind blowing! Every bite was literal perfection. (Shout out to Chef Lee who made that night's omakase menu and also was the one making and serving us our food.) I've never tasted so many amazing flavors in one night. The fish was like butter it was so soft. Honestly while I wish I had taken pictures of everything, the food was so good it almost felt disrespectful to be on my phone! The wine and sake pairings that night were also a fantastic choice. Everything was matched perfectly to the courses we had, and I'm sure I'll be adding those bottles to my personal collection in the near future. Of course if you don't want to go for the pairings, they do also offer other drinks as well. Honestly, this is a place I'll probably be dreaming about for a while to remember how delicious the taste was. My fiance and I would love to come back! Especially as the menu changes with the season, we cant wait to see what kind of delicious food will be served next!

My husband and I were here last month and tried their tasting menu. We liked the food and the service from this restaurant. So we decided to take the niece here for her b-day; it was her first time experience an Omakase. She enjoyed and loved it. Both food and service are very good.

Came here for Omakase last Friday and we had such an amazing time with Chef Lee! The entire experience was lovely - we were a party of four and we had the end of the sushi bar, so it was nice to have a little tucked away space for our kind of loud / excitable party! The omakase was $195 with two options for add-ons (see menu!).Service: First off, the service was fantastic! We had Bon, Allan, Melody, and of course the wonderful and humorous Chef Lee! They were all amazing throughout the night even when our party was late and we stayed late - we never felt rushed (though definitely a little guilty when we saw that the entire restaurant had cleared out - though that was self-guilt and never imposed by the staff).Food: SO GOOD! Major highlights were the lobster and caviar, handroll, and the wagyu! I really loved all the nigiri too - all the flavors were amazinggg!Could not recommend this spot enough for a nice dinner!!
