The space is intimate, classy and beautiful. There was no valet but plenty of street parking. Our waiter was amazing and funny on top of being on top of everything. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides were equally delicious. We ordered a bunch of ribeyes and the skirt steak. The skirt steak was surprisingly tasty. So so tender. The macaroni and cheese, mushrooms and mashed potatoes were the perfect pairing with the steaks and it was plenty to share for a family of four.
It was a lovely dinner and the ambiance was unique perfect.
. The salads were very flavorful and very pretty. The steaks were done to perfection. Out of 5 guest having steak we only had to send back one for being under done. Easy fix. . Flavors were stellar. One note, AC does not work well so it was quite a hot, sticky and humid inside so that was a bit tough. When I asked the hostess about it, she didn't seem to think there was a problem. But clearly, we were all struggling.

The service was perfection, they treated us so special and kept telling us how happy they were that we're here. This alone with the adorable wine library and house style restaurant makes me want to come back every year. Not to mention the food! Everything we tasted was divine! Perfectly cooked steak, well balanced flavors, and beautiful presentation. Would love to come back here for dinner again. The bar also looked fun if you're looking for the more lively atmosphere. The wine library was perfect for an intimate date night. I would choose the outdoor patio by the fireplace for a group dinner. Thank you to our servers and compliments to the chef.

Came here to celebrate a birthday and we were all so happy to dine here. We were seated outside and it was perfect. The meals and the drinks were amazing! Everything came out perfect. Service was fantastic too. Our server gave us some great recommendations: scallops (my personal favorite), sweet onions, beet and goat cheese ravioli, peach and burata, etc. Since we came on Friday night, the restaurant was packed. Thankfully we had an earlier reservation so it was nice to have a good conversation among us without the noise. I highly recommend this place.
Great restaurant for everything except the steak.
Atmosphere was amazing, appetizers were excellent, and the blueberry soufflé was one of the best desserts I've ever had. For the steaks (I had the wagyu and the wife had the bone in ribeye) they were a bit "gamey," which was surprising. I'd come again but wouldn't order the steak.

Selanne is one of the best experiences for steak I've had in a while. The atmosphere, the attention to detail in every step of their service is incredible! From the time you arrive, to when you enjoy your savory entree and when you depart...everything leaves you just wanting to return.
Chairs were older than me and felt like sitting on a 2X4's.
Ordered 2 filets and 2 ribeyes-perfectly cooked. Everything (salads & sides) else were average at best. They don't know what "charred rare" means at this place. Service was not great. Had to ask multiple times for drinks/condiments. they forgot a few times. Dessert was the worst. Like something you'd get at a franchise. If you want a great steak and dining experience, The Broadway in Laguna is excellent. I won't come back to Selanne. Waaaay overpriced ($800. for 4). Michelin is malarkey. Someone got greased.

Obviously this place has good reviews overall so this is based on my 1 time experience in which I would never return. I ordered a steak medium in which Jay repeated back to me " pink with red center" I said perfect. Steak came out with a different person and they left and didnt see anyone for 10 minutes. I cut into the steak and it was like medium well to well, zero pink. We asked 2 different people if we could get our waiter Jay and they said sure. 10 minutes later Jay came and said sorry he was taking an order for another table. He apologized about my steak and took it back to the kitchen kitchen. Another 10 minutes goes by, jay returns with my steak cut open in the center to tell me it's medium in the center just a little over cooked on the outside. Are you kidding me? Jay said I can make you another steak but I said just leave the steak and I'll eat the center of the steak and leave the burnt edges. At this point I was floored by the response and was over it. So the medium part consisted of approximately 40% of the steak and 60% I left. The manager asked if he could take it off my bill I said no, I'm not trying to get a free steak im just surprised with this kind of service. He then asked if I wanted to box up the rest of the burnt steak and I laughed as I dont have a dog. Needles to say a terrible meal with no desert or alcohol for $320? I will not be returning.

Always fantastic food, drinks, service within an inviting atmosphere. It is one of our family's favorite places to eat without a doubt. There are a lot of great choices in Orange County but Selanne's is definitely one of the best.
We loved our experience at Selanne! The steak is to die for.
It's definitely pricey but so worth it! The sweet corn was my favorite side. It's also a must that you start with their black pepper and thyme loaf!

. here's why; - He seated us in the library Thursday evening 5:30. Made certain we were happy with our table. Introduced us to the most outstanding waiter, Dimitri. We ordered filet 8 oz each and several sides, truffle risotto and baked potato.. Our food is perhaps the best in Laguna. We are very long term residents. Dimitri never missed a beat with us nor any of his other guests. He did not rush nor chase around.. he had a system and worked it methodically. We also ordered a Caesar salad with a fine superior quality slice of prosciutto and white anchovy. Coddled egg was in the phenomenal hand made dressing. Me and my boyfriend came here for our anniversary in February, since our usually place was closed for renovations. Thankfully they could squeeze us in at the last minute for dinner! It's in a historic house that has a cozy, candle-lit vibe which I LOVE. Perfect for an intimate occasion such as an anniversary. The food was also amazing, we both ordered steak that was cooked perfectly with lots of flavor. We ordered sides of the broccolini and parmesan truffle risotto which were super flavorful and rich, I was full by the end but couldn't stop eating it was so good. Absolutely no complaints there! Our server also brought out a dessert on the house for our special occasion. Our server was nice but seemed kind of uppity, I get that it's an upscale restaurant and we're two people in our early 20's so maybe he didn't expect us to tip well or something, but he was attentive and pleasant other than that. Overall I would definitely come back here!! I'm still craving the steak a month later LOL
My steak was not cooked as requested.
Had to wait for it while the rest of my party ate. Drinks were delicious and our server was amazing. He did the best he could with my steak situation. It wasn't worth the money when the expectation was to receive what you ordered.

My family and i have been going here for 10+ years. Business meetings/dinners, celebrations, our go to spot. My mother and i went last night for a cocktail and dinner. We each got the wedge salad, which is normally what i get. Way too spicy. I've ordered it multiple times in my times of going here and it didn't taste the same. Justin and Arty were our go-to bartenders. But not anymore. We usually enjoy the bar atmosphere rather than a table. There was a steak of blood (maybe someone had their period)...? On my barstool and the two girls next to us were just too loud i had to basically yell at my mom who was sitting right next to me. Womens bathroom stall needed attention. Salads were brought out, had to send it back since im allergic and i even told our bartender that. Unfortunately won't be returning or recommending this used to be hidden gem in Laguna.

Incredibly nice restaurant to visit when in Laguna! Our waiter Rafael was charismatic and super helpful - phenomenal service! I definitely recommend the scallops for an appetizer, and please make sure to grab a side of the mushrooms! Both indoor and outdoor seating were lovely, and this is a great place to visit.
I'm shocked to say Selanne let me down.
I had high hopes as those who vouch for THE RANCH Restaurant (which is our favorite steakhouse) have mentioned this place is comparable, and clearly I don't agree. One thing Selanne has going for them is their quaint and charming interior of a reconverted cottage home, a cozy warm patio and being in a prime location right on PCH. 1. I was really put off by our server - he needs to deflate his ego. Upon first introduction he was great, but as soon as I was asking about recommendations for drinks (as I was torn on whether to order wine or a cocktail), his demeanor immediately changed and never recovered. I'm not sure he liked how indecisive I was, but he also did a terrible job of directing me towards something. Additionally, there were a few other distasteful moments that happened with him that I won't get into. 2. 15 min after ordering my entree (lobster), our server informs me they are out of it. I was caught off guard as it had been some time since ordering and I had no back up option in my mind, so I decided to just share my husband's steak. There was no courtesy offering of "I'm so sorry for the inconvenience but dessert is on us tonight." A bit of thoughtfulness couldn't hurt... 3. The bone in ribeye steak I shared with my husband was not bad, but I've had better. It was more thin and lean than what I expected and it was cooked more to medium than medium-rare like we had asked. Apparently THE steak to get here is the skirt steak (per our server)... 4. The one noteworthy dish of all we ate was the appetizer of scallops. One piece for each of us but flavorful and cooked perfectly. Back to The Ranch I go! And perhaps Bourbon Steakhouse on the way...
Came here with my brother and his wife on 3/11/24.
They were invited by there friend Santos who is a sous chef. I have only heard good things about this restaurant and always wanted to try this place, it meet all expectations. Our server Rafael was top notch, he was always checking in to make sure that our dinner was nothing short of perfect. His recommendations from our cocktails to our mains were on point. The Food was very very good and the cocktail top notch. My brother and i both got the 45 day dry aged ribeye and his wife got the Filet. Everything is al la cart but definitely worth it. The ambiance is very nice it was once a house so it has that homie feel with that elegant touch. Thank you Chef Santos and the kitchen crew for the epic experience.

Delicious! The only thing keeping me from putting 5 stars is that they don't offer a plant based / vegan main dish, but their food is amazing and the atmosphere is equally lovely. Our party got scallops and shared a lot of the sides (for plant based eaters in the group) and everyone was very satisfied, although we would have loved to see at least one creative plant based main! Will still be back to this place in the future!

I'm actually surprised I haven't written a review for Selanne's yet because I've never, ever been there and not had an over the top experience. Their attention to detail, clear customer service unity among the team, and willingness to make you feel like the most important table of the evening are apparent every time. The food is absolutely phenomenal and each time we go we let our server just walk us through the whole thing and order anything they suggest. You won't regret it!

... chef's kiss! I recently went to both Flemming's and Ruth Chris, and neither one compared to here. The steak was cooked to perfection and the herb butter and sauce was delicious!! For sides we got the broccolini and Mac and cheese, both of which were phenomenal! Highly recommend!

This place was a clean 5 stars across the board no doubt about it. This upscale restaurant is built out of what looks like an old B&B so it's quaint but certainly elegant. The food was beyond amazing. We loved the bread to start - each spread was incredible (onion and tomato were our favorite). The filet mignon was phenomenal - cooked to absolute perfection. We tried a bunch of different sides with the mashed potatoes and mac and cheese being the favorites. Our server Dimitri was great and was checking up to make sure we had everything we needed. If you're looking to spend a little more for a terrific meal, this is the place! I would absolutely love to come back here.
