After a five-hour drive to visit a friend, I was excited to get dinner with her at Selden Standard, which she recommended. We had a 5:15 p.m. reservation but arrived at 5:30 due to our Uber driver missing a few turns. We'd tried to call as a courtesy to let them know we were running late, but no one answered and we were directed to voicemail. When we arrived, I apologized for the delay and let the host know we had tried to call. The host was polite and told us we still had our table but that they would need it back by 7:00 p.m. She asked whether we'd prefer to take the table with that time limit or sit at the bar as long as we want. We decided to take the table for now and figured we could move to the bar later if needed. As we were being led to the table by a man I later learned was the manager, Paul, I joked quietly to my friend, "I've never had a restaurant give us a time limit--it's like we're renting the table!" It was a lighthearted remark, not meant for anyone but her. When we reached the table, I noticed a beautiful patio area and asked if we could sit outside. Paul said no, and I asked if the outside tables were Selden's. (Not being from the area, I genuinely didn't know whether the space belonged to Selden or a neighboring restaurant.) Paul's response was unexpectedly intense--he sharply told us the outside tables were already reserved and that we had reserved this one. Then, seemingly referencing my earlier joke (which he must have overheard), he said something like, "You're not renting the table--you reserved it, just like others reserved those." Taken aback by his tone, I said, "No problem, I was just asking because I wasn't sure. Is everything okay?" He responded that I had been rude to the host. I was shocked and immediately apologized. I said "I am so sorry, I did not mean to be rude" and asked what I had said. He cited my "renting the table" comment. I explained it had been a private joke to my friend, not intended as criticism, and reiterated that we were totally fine with the 7:00 time limit. Despite this, he kept pressing the issue and seemed genuinely angry. All I could do was try to apologize for sounding rude, and assure him that I didn't mean anything by it. But he would not let it drop and continued berating us in a very confrontational and uncomfortable way. His whole body seemed tense and his voice sounded like he was on the very edge of restraining himself. Ultimately it left me at a loss for words. My friend stepped in and tried to smooth things over. She clarified that I was only talking to her when I made the "rent a table" comment. She even praised the hostess and called her fabulous. She asked Paul if we could all just "shake off" the misunderstanding. But he wouldn't let it go--he continued to push the issue. It was very unnerving. At the end, Paul repeated that patio seating wasn't available to us (which we hadn't even asked about again). It was clear we were not welcome and we quietly left. To Paul: your reaction was disproportionate and deeply uncomfortable. I've never been spoken to that way in a restaurant, especially not when trying to be courteous and apologetic. The fact that you continued thee confrontation after my multiple good faith attempts to clarify and de-escalate, especially when I clearly wasn't looking for a fight, reflects poor judgment and a lack of emotional control. I hope you're able to reflect on what made you escalate such a minor comment into a confrontation that drove away two eager guests.
Amazing Dining Experience
I took my goddaughter here for a last-minute dinner, and we decided to try something new — what a beautiful experience! She got to taste dishes she had never tried before, and everything was incredibly fresh. From the salmon to the shrimp and grits, zucchini, and potatoes — every bite was delicious. The service was outstanding, and the staff made us feel so welcomed. We were truly impressed and had an amazing time. We’ll definitely be back!

Regardless, recommend to sit in the patio and any dish on the menu should be tasty. Service was good and fast. We were here 5pm on 6/6/2025 Friday, it was already busy. By 6pm when we left, we had to go through the restaurant inside and it was so busy. Reservations are recommended.

Selden Standard lived up to the hype.
We got the smoked potatoes, walleye, seafood fideua, and the strawberry mascarpone trifle. Everything was balanced and flavorful. The potatoes had great texture and depth, the walleye was light and perfectly cooked, and the fideua was solid but I wish they had rice rather than noodles. Dessert was fresh and not overly sweet. Pricey, but felt worth it for the quality and experience.

Great vibes, amazing atmosphere and wonderful service. Selden has an impressive bar and respectable wine program. However, the food was outstanding! The cavatelli was excellent-- the best I've had. The Michigan country rib was a knockout flavor bomb and tender), and the panna cotta was the perfect texture and nice flavor combo. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants!

The food is INCREDIBLE.
Plan to be there for some time as the dishes come out in courses. It's the best way as this is a food EXPERIENCE. The drinks were fantastic too. I will come back as often as finds allow. So. Good.

Every plate was beautifully presented and very delicious. The beauty of their sharable meals is that every dish is a delight to the eyes and very delicious. Nothing is 'plain jane' that you might get anywhere else. The service was great. Fresh plats and silverware with every plate served.
Home Run Meal
The meal was fantastic. Staff explained the nuances of the dishes and flavor profiles well and the food matched up well to the suggestions and commentary. We really enjoyed everything we ordered and the one suggestions were awesome too. Just a great meal.
Worth it!
Great food. We tried 11 items off the menu. All of them were good. DON’T BE AFRAID! It was all excellent. The wait staff was exceptional as well. We will go back.

Great Dinner
This is a terrific restaurant in Midtown. We had a large group, and Natasha ensured that everybody had a great meal, which was quite a feat given that we had vegans, vegetarians and meat lovers. The food was terrific, the cocktails were quite good, and service was first rate.
Expensive tapas dishes
Ambiance and service was good. Place was packed at 7:30 on a Monday night. Veteran's Day. I felt like the food was overpriced. It had good flavor, but the portion sizes were really small. Like tapas style small. I had to order two entrees. I'm regretting not taking pics. I ordered the Tagliatelle for $27 and it was a small portion. My 2nd entree was the oven roasted squash. Also small for $18! Look at the pics. This is a tapas restaurant. Should be four dollar signs for the price.
Not as Good As It Once Was!
We have been here before , but the restaurant has very noticeably slipped in stature. Very mediocre perfunctory service.. Meal just so-so. Music playing far too loud and tasteless.
Rude and entitled staff
Went to celebrate my sons birthday and were greeted extremely rudely. The manager was actually very aggressive and rude. Definitely someone who does not understand he is in the customer service industry. I would not recommend and will avoid like the plague!!

Hands down some of the best food I've had in a long time! Came during a work trip and this place was recommended by a few people, plus my own research showed that it would be a place I would like. Upon arriving, we were warmly greeted by 2 hostesses. They informed us our table was getting set and would be seated shortly. It was a Tuesday night, and the place was still buzzing with energy and had a trendy ambiance. Our server, Kat, was incredibly kind, professional, and very attentive. She greeted our table of 4 right away, offered the specials and filled our waters. She recommended 8 dishes between the 4 of us, and it was indeed the perfect amount since the food is more of a tapas style/ shared plate dining. I was very happy about this because it would have been sad to not get to try all of the dishes! The dishes came out as they were ready, which was staggered. I appreciated this since it gave us time to enjoy every single dish, and the table was never over flowing with plates. We started with the sweet potato flatbread special and the Ricotta Gnocci. And OMG I savored every single bite. The plates were wiped clean as these were both phenomenal. The flavors, texture....everything! The gnocchi literally melts in your mouth. Next we got the Roasted cauliflower and Grilled Michigan Pork. Again...more amazing dishes both with so many complimentary flavors layered in every bite. The next dishes were the Pan Roasted Half Chicken and Smoked potatoes. I don't know what they did to that chicken but it was the best chicken I've ever had; the edges were crispy and the inside was juicy and flavorful. Then we got the Papparedelle pasta...this was so good we ordered another one because we also had one more guest show up. The last dinner dish we ordered was the Trout. Out of every dish this was probably my least favorite even though it was still delicious. I think it was more of a texture thing and the fact that it's a whole fish. Last but not least we had to get a dessert to round out the perfect dinner. We decided on the Chocolate Hazelnut Bar...and wow, was that the best way to end the night. Not overly heavy, but light, with different textures and flavors. Even though I wasn't a fan of how they laid out their wine menu (doesn't say the wine varietal, just says tasting notes) they had a good variety of speciality cocktails and wines. We tried the How Many Licks and Modern Medicine before switching to wine. I hope to visit Detroit again just so I can eat here! If it doesn't have one already it should at least get a Michelin mention, because this entire menu is 10/10.
A delight
A marvel...from the welcome to the plate everything is perfect. Tasty dishes, spicy at the right dose. homemade bread. Impeccable service. We ate the double side of pork with pineapple puree and slices of jicama. And the fish plate. Homemade carbonara pasta. The wine is excellent In short, go there! Book, even if there are several services it is preferable

Visited this restaurant back in December for my birthday dinner per recommendation from friends living in Detroit. Thankfully, we made a reservation ahead of time -- the restaurant was packed! Located a little outside of downtown, we Ubered there. We ordered the grilled whole trout, pappardelle, and a vegetable (I forgot which!) all the food was amazing and so were the drinks! Three dishes was the perfect amount of food for two people.

so as a local metro Detroiter I've been to Southern standard and it really lives up to the hype. It really lives up to. It's the food the service the ambience everything that has to do with Southern standard is really good. Anybody who's coming for the NFL draft wants a experience and like you know great food great times their brunch is off-the-wall. Their lunch is off-the-wall their dinners off the wall. Anything you get at SOUTHERN standing you want me disappointed I mean, the weight staff is amazing if you take the time to explore Detroit and you want something to remember, I would say yes this is fantastic.

Finally had a chance to visit Selden Standard.
We had heard great things about this restaurant and made a reservation for a Saturday night. We walked to the restaurant from our apartment so I can't speak to the parking too much but it looked like there was street parking. We had to wait for our table to be ready when we first checked in but it seemed pretty busy and our table was near the kitchen so it was nice seeing where all the cooking was being done. Once we were seated we started off with the Vacation Friends and How Many Licks cocktails which were both rum based and we really enjoyed them. We started with bread and butter which you can ask for and then the oysters and beef tartare as our appetizers. Our waiter was also very good with sharing advice and explaining the menu to us. I really liked the beef tartare and the lettuce that it came with gave it a really good freshness to the dish. We had the pappardelle and the Michigan Grilled Pork as well and both of those were also delicious. Definitely a great spot for a dinner date and we will be back to try more of the menu!

The lamb pappardelle was my favorite. Portions are SMALL. Expect to spend $$$ if you want to experience the full menu and want to leave with a full stomach. We were a party of 5, ordered 7 dishes and two desserts. I definitely ate again when I got back home. The vibe was unnecessarily clubby? The music was loud and we could barely hear each other from across the table. Also didn't realize our seating was at a shared table in the back. Would have definitely thought it meant more privacy but the music was so loud. To be fair we should have asked if it could be turned down since we were somewhat separated from the main dining floor.

We've been wanting to try this Restaurant for a while! We finally went this weekend. We were able to get nearby street parking easily! We were seated promptly. The atmosphere was upbeat and fresh. And our server was friendly and attentive. All of our tapas were good, but not great or unforgettable. The only real disappoint was the beet salad. The first bite, I literally said "Wow"! But the rest of the bites were so incredibly salty, it was almost inedible (and I am a salt freak). If it was less salted, it would have been fantastic.

Class act
Selden Standard has always been a stalwart class act. One of my top 3 restaurants in the area. We avoid seed oils at home, and I always add a note to all my reservations that we "prefer to avoid seed oils." Not ONE restaurant has ever asked about this until tonight. Kudos to Selden Standard and our server on a VERY busy night. She talked with the chef and brought back a menu that could be modified to avoid seed oils. (See pic). The food and service were outstanding, as always. Do NOT miss Chef Andy's pastas.
Detroit's finest
On a recent trip to my hometown of Detroit had dinner with my sister and her husband. I chose the restaurant from a thorough web search and Selden Standard turned out to be the perfect pick. Everything clicked: the friendly, knowledgable service, the inviting atmosphere, and the thoughtfully prepared, delicious menu. There wasn't a thing we ordered that wasn't delicious. Per our server's suggestion, we picked 5-6 dishes to share. We decided each of us should order a couple of items we were most into trying. I went with the squid ink rigatoni and for the fried green tomatoes—both completely lovely. My sister chose a broccoli appetizer that was very tasty (and trust me, I'm not even into broccoli) & the grilled chicken with white BBQ. Bro-in-law got the steak and an order of roasted mushrooms. Everything was successful, I have no complaints about anything. For the rest of my trip I was recommending this place to anyone who would listen; I often got responses along the lines of , "I know, isn't it great!?" Selden was easily the culinary highlight of my trip. I'm eager to return and will plan on it next time I visit.

I did not eat here for lunch because they are only open from 5pm-10pm daily. Why list this as the second best lunch spot in Detroit when only open for Dinner?
Far from "standard"...outstanding!
We had reservations for a Monday night which meant the restaurant was very busy. Nevertheless, our table was ready. But, we started at the bar which has excellently trained bartenders. Great selection of gins and bourbons. Dinner: G had hake w/ clams and salsa verde. V had pappardelle w/ lamb ragu. We shared an excellent green salad. Wine selections were varied and moderatley priced. If you are in Detroit (a very "happening place," don't miss this restaurant.
Perfect for Dinner Programs
Selden Standard was an excellent venue for my dinner program. The room accommodated 30+ people, the AV setup they provided worked well, and the service was faultless (thank you, Kayla and Michelle.) They served multiple courses comprised of excellent dishes: best food I've ever had in an event setting.
Lovely dinner at Selden Standard
Great dining experience on a cold Spring evening. We each had two dishes and we were so full we didn’t want dessert (darn it). I enjoyed the roasted parsnips and the amazing celery root parmigiana. The parmigiana was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. It was crispy and firm with a rich tomato sauce. My husband’s vegetable carpaccio was fresh and interesting, and his grilled lamb was perfectly grilled. Our waitress was informative and friendly; she gave excellent advice and helped make a perfect evening.

We dined with friends who were celebrating their wedding anniversary on January 3, 2023. Selden Standard exceeded our expectations in all regards. The food, drinks, and service are the gold standard for restaurants.

That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.
Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.
Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* FluffyStar64, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* FluffyStar64 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to FluffyStar64 for any questions Peter may have as FluffyStar64 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* FluffyStar64 now uses their connections at Selden Standard Detroit to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If FluffyStar64 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, FluffyStar64 receives the $200 reward which is credited to FluffyStar64's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Selden Standard Detroit!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
