Shaya New Orleans Reviews from The Last Year
Best hummus & pitta I've ever had.
Get the fried chicken hummus & several of their salitims. Good happy hour (half off hummus & glasses of wine).

I came in with high expectations as I had heard about this place for years, and left thinking that this may have been one of my best restaurant meals ever. The smoked labaneh was something I've never heard of before, and we certainly scraped the dish clean. The chicken thigh entrée was fantastic; the bed of rice and yogurt it was served on was noteworthy. I'm usually not impressed with restaurant steaks, but the hangar steak will linger in my mind for a long time. I'm not sure I've had a bite so tender yet flavorful. I'll be recommending this place to anyone who will listen for a long time.

Food was amazing! We started with the roasted cauliflower hummus. The hummus itself was so good you could eat it with a spoon but it was served with fresh warm pita that was out of this world! We also shared the ikra, moussaka, and baba ganoush. All were really flavorful and delicious with the pita. I'd recommend sticking with shareables/small plates because we were so full by the time our large plates came out. I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts. They were delicious. For main courses we got the chicken schnitzel sandwich and the falafel sandwich. Both were delicious but we were pretty full by then and had to take most of main courses to go. My friends said that Shaya was the food highlight of their trip to New Orleans! Best meal we had! And the service/atmosphere was great too.

Popped in for a little Linner/Dunch with one of my girlfriends. It is always light and inviting in the dining room. We opted to sit at the bar, where Neil was our bartender and waiter. He was fun to chat with and the service was absolutely top tier. He helped us choose our drinks, which we had the maramiya and the alive and well. The sage in the maramiya was so good! Very delicate drink and the herb was not overpowering at all. Always get the 5 salatim---moussaka and labneh are an absolute fav but I love the beets and baba as well, the charred green onions are great on there. And DO NOT sleep on the fried chicken hummus- extra chicken and extra salsa verde. We got the crudités, but you have to get the pita as well. Thanks for taking care of us Neil! We will be back.

Shaya has become one of our go-to restaurants in NOLA for an absolutely splendid meal. Our favorite is to sit at the bar and get some small dishes; our favorites include sujuk pride, falafel, the Brussels sprouts, and any of the salads. Service has always been top-notch, and the ambiance is perfect for a spiffy date night.

Located in a small unassuming building but with ample seating comprising of a second floor and outdoor patio. Clean and welcoming inside though the music is quite lively so intimate conversation may be difficult. Service was top notch. I had gone by myself during jazz week and it was quite busy. Definitely recommend making a reservation. They bring out fresh bread with a Mediterranean dip. Easy to fill up on just that alone. From 4-6 there's a special 50% off the hummus and possibly other small plates. It's a great deal so definitely recommend going a little early. The waiter recommended the chicken leg and thigh. Was very impressed. Crisp on the outside skin while practically fall off the bone tender underneath. Incredibly combination. I don't know how they did both but it's hard to forget! One of the better restaurants outside the French quarter according to my friend who did residency in New Orleans and I think he might be right!
I didn't get to go to Shaya on my first New Orleans trip
I didn't get to go to Shaya on my first New Orleans trip this year so I had to make that happen this time. I got a last minute late reservation (it was Passover) because they were booked. I was quickly seated and greeted by my server. He went over the menu and answered questions. I asked for a recommendation between the fried chicken or the mushroom hummus. He suggested the mushroom and I was excited. He brought out a fresh pita with an olive oil dipping sauce. It was warm and cooked right there in the dining room in the oven for everyone to see. When the mushroom hummus showed up I was beyond pleased. The mixed mushrooms had been sautéed in a brown butter sage and the flavors were so deep and satisfying. It was also topped with za'atar and hazelnuts. The hummus was extremely smooth and simply flavored. It wasn't overdone. I wanted 10 more orders! I also felt like I just had to have the pickles. They are seasonal and made in house. The selection for that day was cucumbers, turnips, and turmeric cauliflower. Now when I tell you that cauliflower was delicious I'm being so for real. I asked for a container of it to go! It was vinegary but bright and flavorful. I wanted a salad and the Fattoush with the sumac pomegranate vinaigrette just jumped out. It had pita chips on the side. There were shallots, sweet peppers, and possibly some sort of radish on it as well. I enjoyed it. For my main I ordered the lamb kofta kabobs and the Brussels sprouts. I was getting full but they both were delicious. I ended the meal with the Labneh cheesecake which had citrus notes, spiced nuts, date caramel, vanilla gelato, and a ginger snap crust. Perfect ending to an amazing meal!

Perfect spot to eat! We started with the lamb hummus and some cocktails. They make a really good old fashion and the road to kfar is awesome. The hummus was really filling so we had a range of actually meals. A small plate following like the salad or the kebab is ideal, but if you want some leftovers the arayes was a crowd pleaser. The restaurant was really busy for lunch but service could have been a little faster.

We had the best dinner at Shaya! The restaurant is cozy, yet open at the same time. Our service was outstanding, while the food was superb. We have never had hummus as tasty as this fried chicken hummus. And the naan was AMAZING! We usually stick to your typical New Orleans cuisine when we visit, but this is going on our list of MUSTS. Thank you for your beautiful food and ambiance.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
