Excellent dinner!
Very nice atmosphere. Absolutely excellent food! Fixed menu but they were able to accommodate two pescatarians.
Be the first to ReplyRigid policies and exorbitant price
Made a reservation for 3 people for dinner. My husband got ill and could not attend the dinner. Despite the explanation and the fact that the dinner was $700+ for the 2 of us attending, they did not wave $65 penalty for my husband not coming due to his illness. I find this ridiculous. Because of this penalty, charging $65 for nothing- (less than 10% of the bill) they had me leaving the restaurant upset instead of happy. The dinner was good but did not justify $730 at all. One of my daughter’s courses was a turnip while my course was halibut. She was having the vegetarian menu but they charged $165 for her dinner just like the regular menu. The restaurant’s absolute lack of flexibility is appalling imo. The tip of 20% is compulsory and the city charges were also a surprise. Mainly at a fine dinning establishment this absolute lack of empathy facing a guest’s illness seems a lack of customer service that should cost then their star. Besides the disagreeable incident of getting charged for nothing, the meal was not that exceptional and the price was not justified. I do not recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic meal and experience
Absolutely loved it. The wine pairing was outstanding and complemented each course - I highly recommend it (though I don’t recommend drinking it all!). I did the lobster upgrade, my husband had the standard squab, and we were both delighted with the quality. Nice ambiance, nice decor, and absolutely first rate service.
Be the first to ReplyCost but pricy experience
It’s a cosy restaurant while not sure if it deserves a star restaurant. Friendly service while the portion of tasting menu is quite tiny . I was offered additional add which is not on the menu (duck). I was surprised the price after all. Overall the food is normal while pricy
Be the first to ReplyAn amazing experience
Had an amazing experience at Sorrel. I think it was a little more crowded than the other Michelin star restaurants I've been to, but the food was incredible. I remember particularly the ravioli, after which no other ravioli will taste good again, and the mushroom foam thing which was excellent and very flavorful. Great vegetarian tasting menu. Would definitely recommend
Be the first to Replyreally interesting and tasty tasting menu
We ate at Sorrel tonight, 2nd time, and were impressed. A set tasting menu with some (expensive - more on that) options. We went for the basic menu - fish focused but some duck with the pasta. Inventive, tasty, very good service, nice ambience, not too noisy. The only thing that I almost downgraded them for was pricing - $520 for the no add on dinner for 2 with 1 glass of wine each seems high. If you go with the lamb/duck/caviar/truffles - expect a much higher bill.
Be the first to ReplyGreat, but pricey
Food was excellent and we all left feeling full, however we did feel it was a bit pricey. For the money there are other Michelin star restaurants i like better
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Wine Pairing Dinner
My husband and I enjoyed our meal tonight at Sorrel. All the courses were delicious, and we very much enjoyed all the wines. We definitely felt overdressed and wished we could have found something online that described the usual attire or dress code. It is definitely a more casual vibe. We were very glad we added on a few of the options from the menu as not sure it would have been enough without them.
Be the first to ReplyCal-Italian Food at Its Finest; Fresh, Flavorful, Unique
If you’re looking for an absolutely delicious Cal-Italian meal with a master chef’s flare, then head over to Sorrel in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. Although they only serve a 5 course tasting menu, there are several variations and add-ons to enhance your experience. I highly recommend you take advantage of the wine pairings since the sommelier has done a standout job of selecting spot-on wine pairings. The ravioli course and tagliatelle add-on were scrumptious, and the oyster add-on is worth it (and I’m not even a fan of oysters). Our server’s attention to detail further enhance the experience. Bravo to one and all at Sorrel.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco
One of my favorite restaurant in San Francisco, and everything that Chef Alexander had in the menu was unbelievably delicious. Sorrel open with a fix menu of 6 courses and 3 addition. We were 2 couples and had the fix menu plus the 3 addition. Simple delicious and amazingly displayed. Every time we go he has caviar in different ways. I am always amazed at his creativity. This time it was with heart of palm . We were recommended a rose wine from La Province, France and it was excellent.
The service is superb.
So happy to see Chef Alex with long hair and looking so handsome
Simply great
Stylish Space for a morning bite and cappucino in Elegant neighborhood of Upper Sacramento Street

Tucked away just steps from the home decor mecca of Anthem is Sorrel, a restful and modern space with a welcoming barrista to serve your morning starter, sun coming in the window, and a comfy uncrowded place not filled with techies on their tablets. Chat with friendly locals who stop by and enjoy your morning!
Be the first to ReplyLoudest Restaurant in San Francisco
Deafening! Nonetheless the food and wine were excellent despite very limited menu. The wine choices were off the beaten path but delicious. Sea bass excellent as was lamb. Gnocchi was truly outstanding. They do not have a full bar, but offer a few bourbon craft cocktails.
Be the first to ReplyA restaurant for foodies
If you are a foodie, Sorrel is for you. I recently dined there with my wife, son and daughter in law for their special white truffle dinner. All three of them were captivated by the food. I found the food to mostly average, not to my taste and the staff to be pretentious. They had two seatings, we were there for the 5 PM seating and sat at the table for almost 1 hour before anything edible showed up. This W’s a 4 hour dining experience. If you like to dine, this may for you. If you like to eat, stay away. Also, incredibly expensive, $2,000 for 4 people. Ouch!
Be the first to ReplyUnbelievable food
Sorrel is a must in SFO. Every time I visit, we come here. The chef is unbelievable.
We had the sourdough focaccia with anchovy, the bread comes in the Owen dish and is big and not flat but puffy, delicious, the oysters & sorrels with Asian pear, sorrel ice and rose vinegar, to die for, the melon & kohlrabi with lemon verbena, goat milk feta and Thai basil, loved it, we thought of the squash, but decided on something else, but since we always talk to the chef he sent it over as a gift, it was squash blossom with ricotta, pickled green strawberries and red pepper jelly, we hadn’t had something that delicious. The gnocchis with chanterelle, sweet corn and huitlacoche were superb, then the rack of pork, this was amazing with wheat berry, yellow peach, cashew, tomatillo and ancho chili just unbelievable delicious and we had the duck that is not in the regular menu, only in the degustación menu, but we asked it we could have it and they brought this huge duck’s breast on the pan to show us, it looked huge and then brought it back cut, it was medium rare with a delicious sauce. We all loved it. the drinks are great and so is the menu. At the end the chef came to say hello and it was such a pleasure to congratulate him on the superb meal and as usual we left very happy and savoring every plate we share.
Sorrel deserves another Michelin star
Got sick.
I am so gross out from this place. I am vegetarian and instead of making a new dish they just took off the meat. Asked at least 3 times when I ordered about the meat and they first gave the dish with meat and said they made a new dish with out. Well I got sick. Luckily I took pics when they gave me the first and second dish. Everything is the same but the meat . So I wonder what really happened. 2 minutes in between pics. Just so disappointed. Pics to share.
