Sugarfish never disappoints! We've eaten at several locations and have had stellar experiences across-the-board. We love sitting at the bar and being served super fast. Santa Monica location has excellent staffing and delicious food. We'll be back soon !

The fresh fish and rice are so soft and delicious! The ahi tuna is the best part. Love the ambiance and great customer service every time I come here. Absolutely love this place hands down my favorite sushi!
Be the first to ReplyFor the price, it's hard to find better quality.
Service was impeccable. I've been here so many times and it is just so consistent! Will be back soon!!
Be the first to ReplyI love the concept of "Sugarfish" and I have been a regular
I love the concept of "Sugarfish" and I have been a regular primarily in Calabasas location which is the closest to my home. Couple weeks ago I had an amazing experience in Santa Monica location which inspired me to write this review. The food is excellent like in any other location (Nozawa Trust me is what I usually go for) however what sets this location apart is amazing team who made so much difference in my experience. I would like to give a special thanks to Abby and Alyssa (the servers) , Hana (the host) , Brian (the store manager) and Austin (regional manager). All of them were extremely accommodating with my food preferences, knowledgeable, genuine, kind and fun to talk to. After spending over an hour enjoying delicious and fresh sushi I felt like I was just amongst great friends/family members. Congratulation Sugarfish by Nozawa Santa Monica on selecting such a fantastic team of people who can take your dining experience to the next level. Cannot wait to be back!
Be the first to ReplyI've been going here for a while.
Such great food poorly handled by customer service. Saved alone by the one Asian kid with great prince Disney hair. Wouldn't be surprised if the waiter turnover is high here. Charged for drinks while waiting over an hour to be seated, tho the party next to me was not. Being seated after people come after me and served after people sitting after me at the bar. Almost feel like I want to sit here at the bar writing this negative review just to take up more space. Served warm water after my workout. Had to ask for the water btw. Also ordered toro tasting and trust me, with salmon missing. Reminded the waiter and attitude given instead of I'm sorry for forgetting. Seriously fuck this experience and one of my fav spots in SanMo ruined. Would have loved to tip twenty percent if the job was done well but sixteen percent is included with the check. At least the food was good? The bar was empty at one point while I was sitting up here. Poorly managed.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is a lot of bang for your buck.
Decided to reward ourselves after a weak 3.5 mile hike on the Los Liones Canyon hike...we really didn't deserve it since we decided to hit the Parker Mesa Overlook and head to lunch haha. But regardless, it was nice stopping by and not having to wait more than 5 minutes at 1:30/2PM on a Sunday. Despite dressed in a bunch of hiking clothes, we were able to be seated relatively quickly once everyone arrived after looking for parking. Feeling like we were starved, the three gentlemen went with Don't Think, Just Eat. Trust Me while the two ladies settled with The Nozawa Trust Me option. All I can say is the food here is bussin'. Fish were high quality and the portions were generous. Washed it all down wonderfully with a Sapporo Reserve and walked out extremely content. In fact, I felt like that may have been slightly too much food for me but totally worth it!
Be the first to ReplyI grew up on the east coast, I now live in the Midwest.
There is NO GOOD SUSHI IN THE MIDWEST. So when I have the opportunity to eat proper sushi, I MAKE SURE I GET PROPER SUSHI. SUGARFISH did not disappoint. I took yelp's suggestions and ordered "don't think. Just eat." It was the perfect amount of food for one person. I was just on the verge of regretting ordering too much food when the check came. Sadly there is no dessert menu. But really... you don't need it. But I have to talk about the actual food. The proteins were mouth-watering fresh, delicate, and perfectly apportioned. The salmon sashimi came with some kind of thin-ass seaweed sheet (it was not the thick green sheet that you're used to, it was almost translucent!) and toasted sesame seeds that resulted in the most well-balanced flavors for a sweet meat like salmon that I've ever had. Honestly, I'm going to be dreaming of that salmon sashimi. My palate is forever ruined. Also, SINCE WHEN DOES SHRIMP HAVE A CREAMY TEXTURE?!?!?! Delicious. Apparently some folks are put off by the rice being warm? At least that's what my server said. But to me, it's a signal that literally everything is coming fresh from the kitchen SO ENJOY IT. I had just enough ginger that I could have a piece in between each individual piece of sashimi or hand roll course. I'm used to dunking my sushi in soy and wasabi; I barely used it here because everything was so frikin fresh and some courses came with seasonings (so why mess with a good thing?). For a Sunday night, the place was crowded (good sign). I managed to be seated at the bar immediately because I was eating by myself. I had a great view of the kitchen, and everyone was working their station like a well-oiled machine. Just, solid fresh sushi for the price. If im ever in town again, Im making my midwestern-ass husband take me here after he gets his in-n-out fix; I'd rather save my appetite for amazing sushi.
Be the first to ReplySuch a relaxing environment, great for dates.
All of the food and sushi was so fresh and delicious. Portions are not large but just right. Host seems to be very busy on their own but managed very well and was kind and professional. The only thing I didn't love was how close the tables were to one another. I had to really scoot between the tables and walk on my tip toes so that my butt didn't hit anything haha. It was a bit awkward. I would come back again!
Be the first to ReplyThey were not dog friendly at all not a good experience.
That's all. The whole time they gave me hard time about my dog. Not recommended.
Be the first to ReplyNo wait for a table.
Quick service. And no lie, the best raw fish I have had in my entire life. People are always throwing out the word connoisseur. I used to think I was a sushi connoisseur. That is until I went to Sugarfish for the first time. It completely changed my sushi paradigm. Completely and utterly turned my sushi world upside down! We arrived on a whim, and decided to grab a seat. The server arrived almost immediately and recommended some great items for sharing. We of course wanted to sample everything so we ordered the Nozawa Trust Me. They even accommodated us by offering some of the hand rolls as cut rolls so we could share even more. The flavor of the fish, the texture, the freshness. It opened my world to a new reality of sushi greatness! I will return, and am happy to learn that there are so many locations all around LA. I even forgot my water bottle there, and it was right there waiting for me later that day when I returned for it. Great staff, great ambiance, great food. Sugarfish!!!
Be the first to Replysolid 90% of the time.
depending on the location, either the fish is super spare or the rice is cold.

when you eat and see a dirty table opposite and dirty glasses in the refrigerator, your appetite disappears. such a good location and such a dirty place. So sad ..
Be the first to ReplyThe masters of delivered sushi.
.. Sugarfish were the first ones to get it right years ago, and it's still consistently excellent. Perhaps my favorite takeout order -- or certainly among the top 5! It's simple, clean, fresh, and offers great variety and balance within the little box. In fact, there's absolutely nothing wrong with going to a Sugarfish in person. It's always good and the service is friendly and efficient. But the perfection of this box makes me enjoy the takeout far more... plus you get everything at once and can bounce back and forth. I also like that you can add a little variety into the mix with the roll version, lite version, etc. It's definitely fairly priced, but it still isn't one of those places we can afford hitting a few times a week for lunch!! A bit more of a special lunch place. Which is perfect, because it makes a lovely treat. P.S. Still miss going to the original Sushi Nozawa all those years ago many times, and having them scold people for having their cell phones out!! What a legendary place.

Packaged so nicely and made it such an experience even ordering it to go. Fresh sushi and would definitely go here again. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious sushi and miso soup! I highly recommend it.
Love bringing friends here and out of town guess
Be the first to ReplySugar fish has been a go-to for any celebration/nice
Sugar fish has been a go-to for any celebration/nice dinner!! My boyfriend and I love the quality and options of the menu, along with the modernized ambiance of the restaurant. It is reasonably priced for being higher quality sushi and leaves you SO full!I got the trust me lite! This comes with edamame, Sashimi platter, 3 sushi pieces, and a roll. EVERYTHING comes out made to order and it is all so fresh and delicious! My boyfriend got the Don't Think, Just Eat. They change up the selections of the sushi/rolls every once in a while so you never really know what you are going to get unless you ask before you order. We love the anticipation of trying something new and not really knowing what your going to get until it rolls out!!! FYI it is filled with a LOT of sushi/rolls and shareable between two people! One edamame, seven sushi selections(2 pieces each = 14 total pieces of sushi), two hand rolls, and sashimi) OVERALL TASTE OF EVERYTHING IS AMAZING AND WILL NOT DISAPPOINT IF YOU ARE A SUSHI LOVER. Everything is so simple, yet has a perfect balance of flavors. The quality of the fish is unbelievable, it just melts in your mouth like butter. The rice had a touch of sweetness and completed the whole experience of each sushi! We also tried the nigori sake! Definitely on the sweeter and more creamy side for sake. I am still not a big fan of sake, so it wasn't my favorite thing in the world but I can tolerate better then most other sakes.Lastly, the service was amazing! Consistently checking up on us and making sure we have everything we needed!Love you Sugarfish! You are the best!
Be the first to ReplyThis is the 2nd SUGARFISH location I've been too and I keep
This is the 2nd SUGARFISH location I've been too and I keep coming back because the experience is one of a kind. This isn't a place for sushi rolls, it's about enjoying the fish.I recently came to this location for a date who lives out of town. They don't have sushi like we're fortunate to have out in Ohio. He loved this and still talks about it. We both did the Nozawa Trust Me dinner option. Every item was delicate and perfectly portioned. Can't recommend SUGARFISH enough.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my go to place in NYC for great sushi/sashimi at
This is my go to place in NYC for great sushi/sashimi at reasonable prices. there are a few locations in NYC, including Flatiron, Midtown East, Midtown West and SoHo and many more locations where they started in SoCal - LA and San Diego. Excellent fish/sushi/sashimi at very reasonable prices. Much less expensive than typical omakase restaurants and very good quality fish. I love that there is no tipping but the staff is so friendly and helpful - they clearly enjoy working there. It's a relatively casual atmosphere. They do need to open in San Francisco - it would be very appreciated by the foodies in this city. Every time I've eaten there, I've enjoyed it immensely.
Be the first to ReplyI can not say enough good things about Sugarfish! This is
I can not say enough good things about Sugarfish! This is by far my favorite sushi restaurant! Everything here is 100% amazing! From the quality of the fish to the friendly staff. Anytime I am driving to Southern California, whether it be LA or San Diego, I ALWAYS make a pitstop at Sugarfish. I wish they would open a location in the Bay Area so I could go there more often. I definitely always get one of the coursed meals and then depending on who I am with and how hungry we are, we sometimes order a couple extra of our favorites. Especially the handrolls. They come with the seaweed perfectly crisp and the rice the perfect temperature. Just thinking about it now is making me hungry! Lol seriously though, you cant go wrong here.
Be the first to ReplyFood is very tasty.
I don't think any of the SUGARFISH locations have had any issues. Fish was always great for the price. Rice was a bit warmer than the other times I've had SUGARFISH.Service was great! The gentleman at the bar was very attentive despite the chaotic Friday night. Food came out pretty slow, but understandable given the Friday night. The tone of the restaurant was extremely positive. It was popping to say the least especially with the huge influx of people from the nearby Genesis Invitational. The ambiance was super loud and made it hard to hear anything, but would be great to come with friends next time.Overall very few complaints from me: just overly warm rice and slower service than expected. I would recommend anyone to come out.P.S. SUGARFISH has a discounted parking structure right next to it.
Be the first to ReplyGreat quality fish.
Nice service and atmosphere. Check out the "Trust Me" tasting options.
Be the first to ReplyWe were so disappointed in this place.
While everyone is commenting on the warm rice served with cold sushi - everything that came out to our table, fish included, was room temp. It was almost as if their chillers weren't working right. Even our COLD sake came out warm. And after we peaked into the "sushi bar"/kitchen, everything was pre-prepared, no knife or fresh fish fillets in site. My husband and I both started feeling queasy and nauseous at the same time, about 90 minutes after eating. As much as I can appreciate a sushi experience, this was not the experience we were going for. We will not be going back. We also brought our 5 year old with us, which was not smart. Unless your kid likes raw fish, rice or soybeans this is not the place for them.
Be the first to ReplySome of the tastiest fish I've ever eaten.
So soft and juicy. We got one of the tasting menus and everything was absolutely delicious. The fish practically melts in your mouth.
Be the first to ReplyI love the "trust me" options if you're looking for
I love the "trust me" options if you're looking for something new! They each come out separately and the staff explained every course.
Be the first to ReplyOkay, I don't eat raw fish much.
... but this place totally changed my perspective and raised my standard for sushi so much. The place is well kept, and we were attended to as soon as we walked in. I choose the Trust Me option and every piece of it was SO GOOD. Edamame was kind of salty but otherwise fine. The fish doesn't taste fishy and each piece literally melts in your mouth. It looks and tastes fresh. The rice isn't overlly sticky and the nori is ... not normal (seemed thicker?). My favorite was the Lemon Japanese Yellowtail! Everything is beautifully plated. I was barely satiated with the given portion, so if you're looking for quantity here, Trust Me probably won't be it.Prices are high ($33 a person + gratuity already added to the bill) so I would only come for special occasions. Would categorize this place on the higher end given the prices, quick service, and good quality.Would love to return sometime!
