Sushi Bar Montecito Santa Barbara Reviews from The Last Year
Great food- great Chefs- an overall fantastic experience.
The drinks were great the conversation was great- a unique Omakase experience
My friend made a reservation for Sushi by Scratch via Resy
My friend made a reservation for Sushi by Scratch via Resy and we were so excited to try the Michelin-starred omakase. It was $25 for a non-refundable deposit. The restaurant is conveniently located inside Montecito Inn with valet. Guests check-in at the lobby and get a complimentary cocktail (yuzu, ginger, and sake) before getting seated. The sushi bar is extremely intimate and exclusive with only 10 seats. Our names were written on a little chalkboard, so we had to find it and sit. Unfortunately for my friend and me, the other 8 people were from the same party and they were extremely loud. I get it, it's a birthday celebration, but I wasn't prepared for all the yelling and screaming and loud chattering for 1.5 hours. Not calming nor zen. Regardless of the noise, the 17-course meal was absolutely spectacular. Every nigiri tasted tasted so fresh and melted in my mouth. My favorites were the hotate and albacore. Even all the cocktails I got to try were delicious and refreshing. The chef and bartender were extremely attentive and so fun to chat with. Can't wait to come back (but I'll make sure that I'm not stuck with a rowdy big party)!!
WOW! Absolutely mind blowing-ly good nigiri-style omakase
WOW! Absolutely mind blowing-ly good nigiri-style omakase experience crafted in front of you with the addition of deliciously creative flavors to the individual bites of the freshest fish you have ever tasted. It is no surprise they have been recognized with a Michelin star. The experience is complete with equally delicious cocktails, and wonderful people on the chef team. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Definitely! I will be back.

Came here for my best friend's birthday & it was such an amazing experience. The service is top notch. We came early to enjoy a very small welcome drink, they offer alcoholic & non-alcoholic versions. We got the alcoholic one & it was a delicious start. Seating is intimate with only 10 seats at the bar. We had a 17 course omakase for $185/person. It is pricey, but that's expected & you should already know you're going to spend a lot of money here. The experience was very personalized, your name is written at your seat & they make sure to address any allergies. Every bite during the omakase was amazing, some of my favorites were the bone marrow, king salmon, & wagyu. They also have an extensive drink menu, I opted for a mocktail & the bartender customized the drink since I was feeling something on the sweeter side, it was perfect. My friend ordered some cocktails & had also asked the bartender for something sweet, they all tasted amazing! We loved that the bartender was able to customize a drink based on what we wanted. We also finished off with a small dessert, which was some kind of bar with ice cream & other stuff mixed in. This was so amazing & has been the best dessert I've ever had at any omakase. It was apparently made by the owner's wife who is a pastry chef. Overall, we had such a great experience & will come back again on a special occasion in the future.
This was mine and my fiancés first omakase experience, and
This was mine and my fiancés first omakase experience, and wow it was so incredible. We were in town for the weekend, and wanted to celebrate our engagement/late valentines date. We did some research on tik tok and came I came across this spot and heard it was a must try and is Michelin! I was reading other reviews, and since I can't compare this experience to other omakase spots, I will say that the omakase was one of the best things I've had. EVER! Checking in- checking in was nice and easy. You need to go to the lobby, and you'll see a section where you'll check in with someone and they'll ask you questions about allergies, if you want to add in supplements (such as caviar), etc. They also offer you a nice welcome refreshment with a choice of alcohol or non-alcohol. It was such a nice refreshment and definitely cleansed the palette. Highly suggest arriving early as they typically start right on time! Service & Area- You are seated with 8 other folks, 10 people total in the space. The ambiance is so chilled, and it gives you a speakeasy feel. The chefs introduce themselves, and there is a bartender or beverage specialist that goes over the beverage parings and drinks. I honestly don't think you need to be pressured to order a sake or wine paring, it is another 100+ each person for the pairing. We just opted for a mock tail and a beer and that's totally fine if you don't want to drink. I think people think you HAVE to order a drink, but it's really not necessary. All the 3 chefs were friendly and very attentive. They have a good assembly going when crafting each omakase piece. I wish we were able to sit more in the middle, but all in all it was amazing service!!! They also congratulated us on our engagement and future wedding, super personable. Food- There was not one thing I didn't like!!! Their fish and seafood is imported from all over the world! Spain, Canada, parts of Japan (mostly Hokkaido). Everything was so fresh, buttery, and melts. It is so hard to choose a favorite, but my top choices was the Tess in, toro, hotate, escolar, unagi. I'm not even a fan of unagi but the flavor was just something else! I was so pleased. They offer additional pieces for an added fee, we opted out because I think everything we already had was super satisfying. Each person is $185 and they also add the 20% automatic gratuity. It is pretty steep, but I still recommend this to folks who are looking for a great experience with delicious omakase.
I am somewhere in the four zone but will give them a five
I am somewhere in the four zone but will give them a five for my husband. The sushi was excellent. We did opt for the add on truffle/ caviar. I would absolutely not do that again. At over $100 per person it did not elevate the experience and in fact, overwhelmed the delicate flavors of the fish. Additionally, we ordered the saki experience and the mixed drink experience, I would also not recommend doing so, frankly, it was just too much alcohol. If talented Kevin is the bartender and you are in the mood, split the cocktails, there is enough for two and you want to stay sharp for the entire dinner. Kevin is a skilled bartender, but all of the sakis were not so outstanding I would need to revisit them. One or two were pretty tasty. Sushi bites: the tessin, scallop, escolar, spotted shrimp and toro were terrific. I prefer classic omakase honestly but I did love the nigiri. The sushi was delicious. We did the add on. The service was warm and friendly, the meal extremely good. Slices not so large, rice not so warm, but flavors beautifully balanced. Everyone was very young, either we are getting super old or everyone was super young, however everyone was nice. It was a great experience. I do think the costs are out of proportion, but it was very yummy and I am glad we joined them for a Tasty meal.
Unique omakase! Make sure you arrive 15-30 minutes early
Unique omakase! Make sure you arrive 15-30 minutes early for the palate cleansing welcome drink. They have an alcoholic and non alcoholic option, both of which were light and delicious. The seafood is flown in from Japan and is super fresh. The accoutrements are top notch with a few little somethin' somethin's in every piece of nigiri (ie: torched bone marrow drippings, freshly grated wasabi, etc). My bf also got the beverage pairing ($115) which included 2 sakes, 1 wine pour, 1 wine and 1 beer. I opted for a yuzu mocktail which was sweet and delicious. Additions: For an additional charge (over $100/pp but I forgot the exact price quoted), you're offered either truffles or caviar to five of the nigiri pieces. At the end of the meal, you're also able to add on chef's creations for an additional (unknown) price too. There's three sushi chefs, a host and a drink specialist on staff for up to ten guests each seating. For the most part, we were taken care of, but one big miss was unfortunately, after the warm towel for our hands, we had zero napkins. That was very much needed. 20% auto gratuity. This is the location that won a Michelin star in 2022.
Ive been looking at this menu for two years wanting to go.
What Im reviewing today is their decision to raise their prices FIFTY PERCENT in the two years they've been open. Omakase menu started at $125 in 2021 and now it's $185. In two years. Has the price of fish gone up 50% in 2 years? Has rent? Has the staffs salary? Nobody should support this kind of unwarranted inflation. It's not about the money - I eat expensive meals - it's about the insanity of this. I know inflation is through the rough and the cost of everything is up but this is gross.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Newbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

How to list a Nobu Malibu reservation
Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. I have posted a screen shot of the phone conversation on the listing, but it keeps getting rejected. If anyone has an idea how I can get it approved that would be much appreciated, thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
