Sushi Lab - East Village New York Reviews from The Last Year
Went in a group of 3 for a birthday and had the most
Went in a group of 3 for a birthday and had the most wonderful time! Our group are no strangers to omakase experiences and by the end of the night, we found Sushi Lab to be one of our top ranking omakase spots. The service was impeccable, and Co (?) went above and beyond in guest interactions. He was friendly, making conversation and humourous comments throughout the evening. The chef was also very funny and interactive with guests, all while paying close care to each piece he crafted. The staff and chef accommodated to my allergy without hesitation or even a reminder, which I very much appreciated. This location is small, but it made our experience all the more intimate and special as every guest marvelled at each piece of sushi together. The chef gave our birthday girl an extra piece of sushi, and placed a candle on the final course of matcha tamago for her as the staff and other guests sang her well wishes. There was a quick round of trivia against other guests, offering everyone a chance at a friendly competition for an extra piece of sushi and a drink gratis. Our group lost the trivia game, but Co still gave us yuzu sake shots on the house. Our favorite pieces of the night included the Akami - Lean Tuna oyster tempura, the Hokkaido uni & snow crab and otoro with truffle. I must also note that Sushi Lab East Village does not skimp on their fancy ingredients like caviar and truffle, and at $100 for the 15-course menu this is truly an unbeatable price in NYC. We left beyond satisfied. I cannot sing enough praises for this place and am still dreaming of this meal days later. We'll be back very soon and a HUGE thank you to the chefs and staff for such a special experience!
A very fun and flavorful evening.
Sushi was super fresh and presented in unique ways. Service was prompt and super fun. Highly recommend for dates or groups.
Incredible sushi spot.
Omakase superb. The sushi was fresh, creative and incredibly delicious. Bravo.
Did the $100 omakase here recently and it was decent.
Pieces were creative and intriguing, fish was high quality, but I felt the execution could have been better. Not sure if I would pay $100 for this again, may prefer less pieces and better execution for the same price. The biggest nitpick I had was with temperature. A lot of the pieces were too warm, particularly the rice, which fell apart when I used my hands to grab the nigiri. The uni I felt was also too cold and could have been sitting out at room temperature for a tad bit longer. Overall, a fun experience though!
Good food and a fun time.
Our group of 4 did the 8:30 omakase and loved it. The staff are friendly, the food is high quality and very tasty and the atmosphere is fun.
Omakase on the roof in the heart if NYC
We went out last Thursday with our friends for an omakase experience in the wonderful place. Located in the heart of the Times Square. There are two restaurants there so dont get confused when entering. Plenty of street (if you lucky) and indoor parking. Seating available by the window or even at chef’s table to watch them cook. All sushi were very unique and tasty. I even ate uni (which i typically dont like).. Drinks were plenty and based on a fact that everyone kept ordering more (i dont drink) - they must have been good. Service was pleasant and not overbearing with “do you want another drink” A la carte menu available if you are not interested in omakase. Prices are very reasonable as compared to similar places in far less busy and popular locations. Check them out.

Delicious omakase spot in the East Village!! 15 pieces for $100 per person. Sushi is thoughtfully prepared and creatively plated. Some of my favorites were Otoro (fatty tuna), Hotate (sea scallop), Akami (lean tuna) and wagu!! Some other pieces that I don't remember the names to pet caviar, and gold flakes added to it, which was such a nice touch. The service was absolutely amazing. We sat by the bar and the waiter kept coming over with good conversation, jokes, and Saki shots on the house. The ambience was fun and upbeat. In the middle of our seating, they had all diners participate in a fun trivia game which we failed miserably at, but the waiter wrote us a note that he loved us the best, and that made our night so special. Would highly recommend for delicious sushi and a super fun night. P.S sit at the bar!!!
Went to celebrate a birthday.
Great and fresh for the price. The manager makes the entire experience fun and engaging. Would definitely return.
Delicious food and fab service
Delicious find. Fab roof top restaurant. Well heated and very comfortable. We at the 15 course tasting menu and the food was Amazing! Tried fish and flavour we had never experienced before. It was soooo good. Service exceptional with each course explained well. Lovely sake and wine. Waiters helpful to suggest good drink pairing. Loved it!
The sushi is delicious
The sushi is delicious, but the crispy tuna and tuna tatare are especially recommended. The staff is friendly and the view is beautiful
Lunch in New York City, NY
Came here for Sunday lunch at the rooftop—had a delicious meal! Loved the decor of the greenery and plants all over. Started off with the Chicken Gyoza, wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce that’s drizzled on it. The Chicken Katsu Sandwich and Washugyu Beef Roll ($21) were good! If you like raw fish, the Omakase: The Lab Experiment, with 15 signature courses for $100 is highly recommended—my fiancé was in heaven and said the fish was fresh and delicious! I tried some of the cooked items (soft-shell crab & eel roll) and they were good! For cocktails, I recommend the Lychee Martini ($16)—super tasty!
Came by for the $100 omakase.
It was good for the price and there were a few creative pieces! In generla every piece was tasty - no big misses. I def recommeng sitting at the counter and not the tables. Only con is it felt very rushed for a omakase. It took about 1 hr 15 min for 15 pieces.

Very good! (Aside from it being unusually warm inside, like uncomfortably stuffy at first but got used to it eventually) I always wanted to try this spot! So I decided to treat my bestie last weekend and it was so fun! Would recommend grabbing a resy and sitting at the sushi bar, always the best seat in the house! We ordered cocktails and they offered to take our jackets. We chose "The Lab Experiment" $100pp - worth it! Per website, "15 signature courses - with some of the finest ingredients like fresh truffle, wagyu, and caviar, The Lab Experiment is a journey for the senses" would recommend if you like omakase! Overall good experience and fun time!

Every precision bite left me absolutely dazzled - so impressed by the complex favors, textures, and stellar hospitality. The vibe is also relaxing and excellent!
Times Square rare find. Sushi heaven
Amazing food and vibes. Peter our waiter was very accommodating Couldn’t have picked a better venue and satisfying dinner close to Times Square.
Worth
Not only is the place amazing, but the food is also spectacular. The location is curious, since you have to go through hallways of rooms in the hotel where it is located. The place is beautiful and very quiet. Despite being a rooftop, the views are not great because it is not very high, but it still has its charm. Very friendly and attentive service. The price is high, but for a special occasion, it is worth it. Although the prices are per units (pieces), the Specialty Rolls are actually eight. Be careful with this when ordering! The Tokio Mule to accompany is a must. A 100% recommendable place.
Innovative sushi, fancy rooftop terrace
Sushi Lab Rooftop is located on the top floor of Sanctuary Hotel on 47th St between 6th and 7th Ave. When entering the hotel, you go to the reception desk to check in for your restaurant reservation, and get escorted through the lobby to an elevator that is hard to find if you visit for the first time. The restaurant has great views of the nearby buildings - in summer, it is an open rooftop terrace, in winter it gets converted into a covered restaurant. The style is modern and stylish, most guests were in their 20s or 30s. You order a variety of sushi creations - certainly not your traditional Japanese sushi, but a modern interpretation with different flavors and textures. We found all dishes excellent, and loved the fact that we could simply order more if necessary as there is no specific sequence. We enjoyed the house sake with our food, which was nice and fresh. We found the price level absolutely appropriate. The place gets really busy, so better have a reservation.
Hidden gem and great for sushi lovers
This is a hidden gem. We sat at the chef's table and it was amazing to see the attention to detail they put into making each dish. The food itself was very good, and the matcha creme brulee dessert was one of the best things I've eaten for a long time. We were chatting to one of the staff who, on finding out we were on our honeymoon, immediately went away to get us free champagne, typifying the level of service.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
