Beautiful restaurant, don't let the exterior fool you!
Beautiful restaurant, don't let the exterior fool you! Great quality fish and beautiful presentation during the omakase. And it is served with freshly grated wasabi- YUM. I highly recommend this place for an intimate and delicious experience.

I've been to two other omakase restaurants, but this one is by far the best. Sushi was super fresh. Amazing service. Even the music was really nice. The chef and assistant were both easy to communicate with as well. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyI really enjoyed my dining experience here.
Like others said the location is quite sketchy but if you look past that once you get inside it's a very cozy ambiance. The restaurant seats about 8 people and distanced well for COVID. It was nice to see a young chef that can speak English. I have seen better knife skills from more seasoned sushi chefs but I appreciated Chef Vincent's passion and attention to detail which were evident all night. He served a great omakase course with a variety of fresh fish and a homemade kinako ice cream as dessert. The pace was good - not too slow but didn't feel rushed either. I always get nervous at omakase restaurants requesting no wasabi but the chef was very accommodating and remembered until the end. I highly recommend this restaurant and hope to be back again soon!

Chef Vincent really takes care of you here, and it's obvious that he's very passionate about his craft. It was super endearing to feel the energy he brings.Everything was chosen with care, from the tableware to his tools to (obviously) the ingredients. The vibes are elegant but cozy; just great hospitality from Vincent and his staff.Food-wise, spectacular. The rice was excellent and perfectly balanced with each piece. Highlights will vary based on your taste/the season but for me I loved the sanma and the negi toro hand roll. And my god, I've never had such a satisfying bite of uni...Even often overlooked things like ginger or seaweed tasted so good because... well, I don't want to spoil everything for you, but I'm sure he'll gladly tell you the details. You should definitely go and ask him yourself!

Literally, a hidden gem considering the location lol! Came here on Monday with no real expectations ( but my friend was pretty sketched out by the location haha) i love how its so intimate as theres only sitting for 3 (3 x 2 people), chef is great at interacting with everyone which made it very , even answered somethings my friend & i were just chatting amongst ourselves about hahaha. the place was pretty cozy & was a pleasant surprise when you remember youre at a pretty run down plaza. fish was fresh but in my opinion the rice is more important for sushi and they had good rice, some places use too much vinegar some places dont use enough. there were some pieces as well that you dont normally see at other omakases which added to the experience. definitely getting more than you paid for, in terms of quality and overall experience.
Be the first to ReplyWent here with my brother on a Saturday at 8:30pm.
He also wrote a review with all the pictures so our experience is pretty similar :). As an omakase location in Scarborough it's definitely not what you expect. This spot is hidden in a bit of a strip mall plaza that driving by, you wouldn't think an absolutely amazing omakase restaurant is hidden within. This place is it. From start to finish the experience here is next to none. I've had omakase of similar prices at other locations in Toronto and Markham and this place blows them out of the water. Sushi Nishinokaze is very intimate with only 7 seats each session and one sushi chef. It really makes the experience feel much more personal. The atmosphere is perfect with the dimmed lighting and soft jazz in the background. The chef, Vincent is awesome to talk to and does an excellent job preparing and serving each piece. The quality of all the fish were brilliant and even the dessert, yuzu gelato made in house was fabulous. Excited to come back 100%

Look past the location and you'll be greeted with an awesome omakase experience! Sushi Nishinokaze has two seatings at 6:00 and 8:30 daily (except Sun and Wed), with bookings done through Opentable. My brother and I went on Saturday for 8:30 - they were wrapping up the last session so it started a bit later, but no worries. This spot is located in a strip plaza near Kennedy & Midland. My photos will list most of the menu, but my favourites were the horse mackerel, fatty tunas, scallop w nori, barracuda, sea urchin, and the yuzu gelato. The fish were fresh, the rice was cooked well, and chef Vincent made sure to check that everyone was enjoying the courses (some others asked for more wasabi). My "experience" highlight was seeing coals used to heat some of the fish (where I might have expected a blowtorch); you could feel the smoke and knew it would be great when served. I loved the vibe as well, with comfortable seating, some nice background music, nice decor displayed on the walls and an intimate seven (for our seating six) seat sushi bar. We were always checked on to ensure we had enough water, tea, and ginger. Omakase is my go-to celebration meal, and I look forward to returning when another milestone comes up!

It's awesome that you can get such fancy food for such an affordable price right now. Its nice because you can tell that the chef is not skimping on quality at all even though it's just takeout. I tried ordering on the same day and was told that since the sushi rice takes very long to prepare, the restaurant needs at least one day of notice. You can definitely tell that the devil is in the details -- the Shari's texture and flavour are both perfectly balanced with a nice amount of acidity and bite, a great feat for takeout sushi which takes time to transport. I highly recommend the negitoro Don, where the oil of the fatty tuna coats the rice for even more rich and yummy flavour.

We tried this restaurant for take out during covid19 lockdown. We got the Akami, negitoro and anago bentos. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the rice at this edomae style restaurant. You can truly taste each grain and the quality of the rice rivals some of the top notch edomae style restaurants in the GTA. The fish portions were generous and nicely marinated complimented by fresh wasabi and a quality miso soup. We look forward to trying more of the Chef's creations and hope he will create more takeout delights!
