In fact, the night went so well that I left with more than just a satisfied stomach--I left with a boyfriend! Yep, you heard that right. Sorry, but that name no longer holds any weight in my vocabulary.

Best sushi I had today! 18 course omakase served by sushi chef Yoshi. Clean, fresh and attentive service. Thank you for the birthday meal, absolutely delicious!

Perfect for a date night.

Wow is right! We had a wonderful experience dining at Sushi Tama for the first time. We came to celebrate our anniversary and had the omakase at the counter and the food was delicious! Every plate was yummmmmmmy! Chef Yoshi-San was amazing! All the dishes were amazingly fresh and you really can taste the freshness! I love that you can really try out all kinds of dishes and not just the sushi. All the food was so yummy and it's worth every penny! We will definitely be back for more! Thank you Chef Yoshi-San for the lovely omakase!

Omakase at the counter was friendly and the nigiri were mind bending. We nodded our way to a pretty substantial bill, but still a value for what you get, romping through some starters into milt and liver (both silky and decadent) then into some more beautiful fish including an optional uni course sourced from Japan (as 90% of the fish is), the gorgeous room-temp toro slices, all a big wow. We were served a LOT of food and it was all delicious.
Be the first to ReplyHaving eagerly anticipated dining at Sushi Tama ever since
Having eagerly anticipated dining at Sushi Tama ever since spotting it on Eater LA's prestigious list of top sushi spots, I finally had the chance to visit last night with a friend. From the moment we stepped inside, I could understand why it earned such accolades. The interior exuded an air of decadence, immediately signaling that this was a place where sushi was taken seriously. Upon being seated, we were presented with the option of either the $100 per person omakase at a table or the $180 per person experience at the sushi bar. Our server, Matt, kindly explained that the higher price at the sushi bar was due to some exclusive offerings crafted specifically for that setting. We opted to select our own pieces from the menu, finding the prices for nigiri to be quite reasonable. We indulged in an array of familiar favorites such as salmon, chu-toro, o-toro, yellowtail, amberjack, golden eye snapper, striped jack, aji, ikura, and uni. While tempted by the A5, we abstained due to it being a Friday during Lent. The portion sizes were satisfying, and each piece was expertly prepared. For drinks, we chose a bottle of Heiwa Kid Junmai Sake, 720ml, which we nearly polished off between the two of us. Our reservation was for 6 pm, and by 8 pm, we had completed our meal. However, our otherwise excellent dining experience was marred by an interaction with the host. She hurriedly approached our table, essentially shooing us away under the pretext of another reservation, despite the sushi bar appearing relatively empty. Spending approximately $400 for dinner, it was disappointing to feel rushed out the door. The hostess on duty that evening could certainly benefit from a lesson in customer service, and I hope the management takes note. In terms of parking, we utilized the garage downstairs. Arriving before 6 pm, we paid $20 for parking, but I was informed that parking after 6 pm incurred a flat fee of $15 for the entire weekend. While I would love to return to Sushi Tama for another culinary experience, I would prefer not to contend with the same treatment from the hostess. Matt, our server, was exceptional, but receiving a subtle nudge to vacate our table only after we had paid our bill was less than ideal. Clear communication regarding reservation constraints upon seating would be greatly appreciated in the future.

Wow. Just wow. In a city full of crazy rolls that seem almost over the top, it's nice to have a traditional sushi restaurant. Unique sake collection and delicious fresh fish. Will absolutely be back. Very clean and nice simple aesthetic.

Excellent sushi, freshly made by skilled Japanese chefs, great service, and lively atmosphere. I was extremely impressed by this sushi bar. Delicious!
Be the first to ReplyFor our first visit we had the omakase.
Chef Nicky (?) gave us 11+ courses of very fresh and delicious nigiri and sashimi as well as 2 different broths and real crab meat. The sashimi was served with freshly grated wasabi - we watched him grate it and was excited to try it. All the while, Chef Nicky was friendly and engaging, explaining the types of seasonal fish flown in fresh from Japan. His artistry and mastery was a pleasure to experience.
Be the first to ReplyIt is excellent, excellent, excellent.
The omakase is great! I love the ambiance and the service is also stellar! I come here at least once a week because the food is soooooo good.
Be the first to ReplySome of the best food and service I have ever had.
Everything we tried was fantastic, and our server Matthew was so knowledgeable and helpful in our ordering. I cannot wait to come back soon.
Be the first to ReplyTop five, potentially top one, meal that you will have in
Top five, potentially top one, meal that you will have in your life. In this clean elegant and unassuming restaurant, we did bar omakase and boy were we in for a treat. Started out nice and easy with a bonito broth cup and a shaved crab with a floral accent. And then it really got going - the array of flavors was dizzying, from a kampachi with a charred sliver of skin, to a buttery masterpiece (sorry didn't catch the name of the fish), the freshest uni that popped in our mouths, to a citrusy bonito that may have been the star of the show ... so many of these may have even surpassed the amazing toro that came near the end. Chef Yoshimoto's skills with citrus, salt, fire, and the knife are unparalleled. Be prepared for a memorable culinary experience that will linger long on your tastebuds!
Be the first to ReplyI got the lunch special premium tuna bowl.
Came with 3 different cuts of Tuna sooo good! They are celiac or gluten free friendly having many options for veggie rolls or fish without soy sauce (they have tamari). But LOOK at that tuna...they definitely don't cheap out on the quality AND quantity.
Be the first to ReplyI just want to start off by saying this review is for
I just want to start off by saying this review is for Valentine's Day dinner. Reservations were made noting the fact that I am allergic to uni. If you want to sit at the chefs table counter, it's $150 per person plus an additional $50 which is what we did. There was absolutely nothing special about their Omakase even though the chef mentioned most pieces were from Japan. I feel like it's pretty standard for what it is and I guess it aligns with where it's located. I would've much rather came here on a regular day. We felt as though this dinner was super rushed. As I chef was making uni, I said I am allergic to uni! So he says "can I give it to him instead?" Sure you can! My bf eats my food all the anyways but the chef did not replace it with any other piece. Disappointing. Then came the dessert and it was 1 strawberry sliced in half from Japan. Honestly, I expected a lot more for dessert. That strawberry could've been from Whole Foods for all I know. I would've much rather try their bento box that I see other guests posted from their reviews.
Be the first to ReplyHigh end sushi restaurant that delivers on quality,
High end sushi restaurant that delivers on quality, service, and presentation. We did the omakase and every single item was a purely delicious experiment. As someone who doesn't eat she'll fish, they were able to remove shellfish from my course, while keeping for my partner.A must try sushi spot in LA - maybe the best one actually.
Be the first to ReplyWOW.....came here for lunch with a friend sat at the sushi
WOW.....came here for lunch with a friend sat at the sushi bar and we ordered the chefs choice Omakase at $180 per person....And OMG!!!!.....it was absolutely well worth it.... Started off with a few small sashimi dish then we moved on. I think maybe 10 to 12 pieces of sushi and it was perfect "Edomae" sushi....No crazy sauces, no disco sushi, just fresh fish, sashimi and perfect nigiri sushi.... It was an absolute quality experience for lunch and I will definitely be back for dinner so thank you and Arigato Gozaimasu

Image seems to be everything here and the LA folks are buying it based on the reviews. Charge me a lot and bring me tiny razor thin sushi. O Toro of mediocre grade. Unfriendly staff, except for the Japanese waitress, and just a bad vibe. Order the snow crab roll and enjoy your rixe roll with a forensic trace of crab. Place was great when it first opened. Bad now.

Sushi was amazing and fresh and I couldn't remember the name of a lot of them. Server was amazingly knowledgeable and the hostess was very nice and accommodating. We ended up getting omakase table and it came with about 4 courses. Star of the show was the the Otoro which was simply divine. We also ended up getting some wagyu handrolls as well which were equally amazing. Overall experience is I would definitely go again :3

Wow. Every time I eat something here my mouth takes a quick trip to heaven before coming back down to report it's findings with a quiver. Chef Yoshimoto is truly a master itamae and it shows in every detail of his work. The aesthetics of the location and the sushi bar itself has a sort of Danish minimalism that is stunning. There's something magical about sitting at the bar and being able to see them work. The sake selection is stellar and the wait staff is incredibly knowledgeable, they will find you exactly the right pair for your palette, and you can even sample a few different ones to see what you like best. The fish is some of the best I've ever had, and knowing chef Yoshimoto's background from Tsukiji market in Tokyo, it's no surprise. Every piece melts in your mouth in the most remarkable way, and the flavor is unparalleled. Everything is prepared in a minimal and delicately beautiful way. The fish is always the star and you don't need anything to cover it up. Treat yourself to some A5 wagyu sushi, it's breathtaking and I can barely restrain myself from ordering more and more every time. The sea perch is served aburi style (a quick blast from a blow torch) and dressed with a simple lemon and yuzu topping and is probably one of my favorite choices. They offer fresh grated wasabi and its an experience unto itself, if you've never had the opportunity to try it. There's usually street parking, or some parking lots nearby when it gets busy and you can easily snag a reservation through Resy but it can get booked up pretty full sometimes. Sitting at the bar or a table are completely different experiences and I recommend you try both.Any sushi you have here will likely ruin any other sushi you try at another place but let's be honest, you come here to transcend the boundaries of what you knew was possible with taste and simplicity.
Be the first to ReplyNot cheap, but not the most expensive either.
Very good sushi. Legit. I like coming here when I want sushi better than SugarFish.

I had an awesome Omakase dinner experience at Sushi Tama and I recommend you stop by for some fresh fish and friendly hospitality. We sat at the bar and it was cool to interact with our chef and to be able to ask questions. My friend had some sake and I went for a glass of champagne, which was served in beautiful glassware. The food was tasty and diverse, I'll definitely be back soon!
Be the first to ReplyThis sushi was so good it had me miss living in Japan.
