This place is way past its old glory days, and it is a darn shame; I feel compelled to write a review about my last and final visit as an opposition to my first visit review above. Had a double birthday post-wedding celebration and was excited to bring my friends and relatives from overseas to experience Tao. I could not have thought that a place like Tao could botch a simple family style dinner on a quiet Sunday night - but they did. For starters, checking in. The scantily dressed blonde hostess/Maitre d/Manager was too busy on her phone to pay attention to the only group of guests arriving. After a perfunctory hello, Miss Tatoo had as wait for our table. I get it, restaurant policy is to seat whole parties but why keep us waiting for more after the whole group has arrived at a half-empty restaurant on a Sunday night? We were sat over 40 minutes past our reservation time despite having a reservation a month in advance, in a HALF EMPTY dining room. Service at the table was spotty at best and nothing like my previous visits. Either they were short staffed or they have a hard time retaining competent experienced staff. Food was slammed altogether at once without explanation of what is what. Drink orders took 15 minutes plus to arrive. I can understand some delays on busy nights but the restaurant was half empty. Table was not getting cleared in time in-between courses and as a result food was getting cold waiting on the runner trays while the table was getting cleared. I could go on about the lack of overall hospitality, and lack of attention but I will leave it at that. The only good part was the food which was indeed delicious albeit lukewarm to cold. Tao as is appeals to casual diners in their 20s and tourists with no service or hospitality expectations. We will gladly take our business elsewhere.

Everything was great, music, food and vibes were all excellent. Inside was very dim and romantic. Good spot to take nice pictures

While the food was quite good, the disrespectful staff was enough for me and my party to never return to any establishment associated with Tao Group Hospitality. When we were seated, our party of eight ordered drinks and showed the waiter our IDs. After a few minutes, we had a bouncer approach our table, stating that "One of you gave it away that you are underage, I need you to show me your iPhones and IDs." We did so without hesitation, as we are all 22. We recognized and understood that they might wish to verify the age of a group our size placing drink orders. Yet, he continued to move from person to person, mocking us and stating that he was going to "catch us." After we all passed his test, he continued to degrade us, telling us that we looked 17. We have never experienced such disrespect before, let alone from a hospitality group with the mission statement, "We strive to exceed expectations and continually reinvent the future of hospitality through our owned operations." While we told our waiter about the unprofessionalism we had been subjected to by the bouncer, we never received any sort of apology from higher staff or management. We will definitely not be returning to this establishment-- we even considered canceling our orders and leaving-- as we paid hundreds of dollars to be degraded and mocked for a mediocre meal and a pathetic experience.

First timer at Tao! It was beyond amazing! The spicy tuna on crispy rice, tuna pringles, and tuna poke were to die for. Our server Hope was also beyond amazing! She recommended the roasted dorado and it was delicious, she also recommended the Saketini Sutra cocktail and I couldn't get enough of them! Amazing experience thank you Hope!
Be the first to ReplyThe food here was worth the hype.
A little overpriced, but the ambiance was a cool experience
Be the first to ReplyThis place makes you feel like you're in a different
This place makes you feel like you're in a different country or world. It's loud and action packed, fun, and the food is amazing. It's definitely for a younger crowd, but we had a ball, and we just kept ordering because everything we tasted was fantastic!!
Be the first to ReplyWe were so excited to try this spot.
We've been to the one in Vegas and the other location in NYC. The expectations were high, however service was horrible. We had such a bad experience, the waiter slammed the plates on the table, got our order wrong. When asked to place send the correct food it took over 25 minutes. Everyone was done eating by the time my plate came. I was also disappointed, because often times when a food order is taken back a manager will come and speak to the customer and address if there were any issues. In this case I had to ask for the manager. We didn't want any compensation at this point, just wanted him to be aware of the horrible service we received. Compliments to the chef for the food, it would have been more enjoyable if we had better service. I gave a 3 review simply because the food was good. The overall experience not so much The ambiance there is great, the colors, the music, the vibe.

Although Tao is on the pricier side, you do get what you paid for with good portion sizes. Since I sat at the bar the service was great and the waiters were very attentive. I really enjoy the sushi here and haven't experienced a bad meal , also love the atmosphere even just for drinks with friends.
Be the first to ReplyOur food was AMAZING and the ambiance was perfect to
Our food was AMAZING and the ambiance was perfect to celebrate my friend's 23rd birthday. However, the service was subpar. Miguel our server was disengaged and unintuitive. We came in with our party missing one member. He did not give us an additional menu until 20 minutes after she arrived. He did not explain the menu to us as we are visiting the city and waited approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to even explain the menu. After taking an hour and a half to take our orders, once our sushi appetizer came out, we were not satisfied with the consistency of the roll. When expressing this concern to Miguel, instead of offering a substitution, he proceeded to have an attitude and say "What's wrong with it" and simply took the plate of food away without offering a solution. Since it was my friend's birthday, I wanted to order her a dessert and have them sing to her. Instead of telling us they did not celebrate birthdays, he simply dropped the dessert off in front of her and walked away. When attempting to get the check paid and our food boxed up, it took an additional 45 minutes to get this done. We spent a total of 3 and a half hours of dinner, which is a considerable amount of time to spend in one place visiting a city for one day. We also had to consistently flag down other waiters to even get water refilled for the tI am extremely disappointed with the service we received and it totally ruined the vibe of my friends birthday dinner.

Be the first to ReplyBeautiful restaurant with a nightclub.
Must be visited at least once. The service was good. We did not have a reservation and were asked to wait in the lounge. The wait was not too long -- we just got our drink at the bar and then we were seated. The music was nice and not too loud, so we could have a normal conversation. As to the food... It was good but not great. We ordered short ribs and spicy tuna sushimi for an appetizer and snapper for the main course. While everything was fresh and edible we were not impressed with the taste. The dessert was wonderful: we ordered a giant fortune cookie.

Be the first to ReplyReally awesome spot, an icon of NYC.
Excellent food, beautiful ambiance, and actually good pricing/value. We paid $160 for two people (plus $45 drink tab) and I felt it was a great value.Salmon was probably the best I've ever had. Sauce was insane and the texture was perfect. Loved the veggie egg rolls, crunchy and super steamy. Pad thai was funky, crunchy and delicious. Sushi was fresh. I liked the broccoli (black bean sauce) but my wife didn't love it. Drinks were fantastic. Perfectly mixed Mojito. Super spiced mango/chili tequila martini. They are around $20/each but worth it.Service was quick but took a while to get our check. Place turns into a club late at night. We gotta go back!
Be the first to ReplyTao was a very unprofessional and authoritarianism
Tao was a very unprofessional and authoritarianism experience. They were 30 minutes late to their reservation time. The only reason why I got seated was because I confronted them about their tardiness and then was immediately seated. My date, had misplaced her ID and I could only show my ID for drinks. They limited the amount of drinks I could have. And they didn't allow me to share my drinks. My money should be welcomed at their establishment and I felt discriminated for this. Maybe because I am Latino and not of Caucasian appearance that my integrity and money was questioned. To add insult to injury , I then asked to have my drink with no ice and they served my drink to 1/2 the amount of the cup. Whah an insult. I was totally treated as a child. I do not recommend this place unless you are of white complexion. They show no respect to people of color.
Be the first to ReplyWhen I first was proposed the idea of going to Tao it
When I first was proposed the idea of going to Tao it didn't make much since to me as a country boy because 40$ for orange chicken!? But I went anyways when I got there and tried some of the food I realized it was worth the price tag. I would definitely recommend the Mongolian beef, Molten chocolate cake, crispy orange chicken, temple salad, and wagyu beef yakitori.
Be the first to ReplyPlace is really trendy, great vibes, delicious menu.
I definitely recommend this place for dates, groups or even to try it out.

Stopped by here Sat night for my friend Kola's pre birthday dinner! I always wanted to go to TAO and I finally made it and it was worth it. From the ambiance to the Omakase.. it was excellent. My one drawback is that I felt we were a bit too far away from the huge Quan Yin statue at the front and my friends had to walk all the way over to take pictures! Overall amazing! Must try!
Be the first to ReplyA bit overrated and overpriced (even for a work expensed
A bit overrated and overpriced (even for a work expensed dinner), but the ambience and service were good and a select number of dishes were tasty. There was a horrible sewage odor throughout the restaurant, which they tried to mask with scented candles, killing the mood and appetite. If you don't mind that, it's a decent place for large groups and dates.

No doubt this remains quite the scene on a Saturday night, so if you go be prepared for crowds and a very hip crowd! Amazing how "hot" this place continues to be. It had been years since I was here and while the space is amazing, we were sadly disappointed in the food. Going in, you have to know this is going to cost you some $$$$ so be prepared! But for what they charge, I would expect the food to be a lot better than it was. The beef short rib was tender but extremely salty. The chicken satay was awful! The peanut sauce was tasteless and the chicken itself I can only describe as pieces of grizzle. The biggest disappointment was the $48 piece of miso cod...for $48, this piece of fish was tiny and lacked any real flavor. The only thing saving me from giving this 2 stars were the drinks, the Hong Kong fried noodles which were very good and the music!I expect a lot more from my food when I am paying these prices....
Be the first to Replybathroom horrifying rotting toilet .
.. saw workers puking garbage can I'm sure they have monkey pox stay far away this is the scene I found when saw the feverish employee limping out
Be the first to ReplyI was wary of setting any expectations before coming here
I was wary of setting any expectations before coming here since it appeared this is a place more for the aesthetics and ambience than quality or value of food. Luckily I did not, but the restaurant still managed to disappoint. It was actually quite tough to decide what to order since nothing specifically stood out to me. The one dish I was excited to try was the Chilean sea bass satay which ended up being tasty, but not the best I've ever had, and for just two small skewers for $28 was a bit too steep for what it was. We wanted some beef, but the only options were very expensive at over $50 for the beef Mongolian. We decided to try it, and honestly it was worse than what I can get from my local Chinese take-out. I think the Crispy chicken was probably my favorite dish, but it was a bit too salty (even without the seasonings) that I couldn't eat too much of it. Overall, the place looked great, but the taste just wasn't it. I'd be curious to come back and try the nightclub though.
