Thai Diner New York Reviews from The Last Year
I flew 2,900 miles to try out this place.
I heard the wait can be two hours during peak times, so we lined up outside the restaurant 15 min before they opened for Saturday brunch and were the first one there. But even 5 min before opening time, I noticed a line already forming behind us. Crazy! When you get there, you'll want to check in with the hostess through a window outside the restaurant. There's a literal arrow sign pointing where to do that. Smart! ~~Ambience~~ Being the first one to be seated in an empty restaurant, we got to really take in the decor and vibe.... ~~Service~~ Service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. ~~Food~~ The most important part! -egg sandwich: heard amazing reviews about this, and would absolutely agree. The sandwich is already tasty but the sauce is what elevates the dish to another level! -uncle pon crab fried rice: I appreciate the generous portion of crab meat flaked throughout the dish. Overall, it's an above average crab fried rice, but again, the sauce adds another layer of zest and spicy bite to the dish which makes it more mouth watering -French toast: wanted to balance out all the savory dishes with something sweet. It's a good pairing between the sweetness from the condensed milk and the creaminess from the Thai tea whip cream, on top of some light and fluffy toasts. Overall, awesome spot for umami rich dishes with a fun, casual Thai dining experience. Would highly recommend.
The food was good, and I tried sharing this with girlfriend
The food was good, and I tried sharing this with girlfriend but it was too small of portion. Eating pad Thai by myself would of been too alittle as well. Limeade was sour and wasn't a fan of it but if you like sour drinks this is it for you. There was not much sparkling in the drink as I expected. Only about 10 percent sparkling and it was only all the way at the bottom somehow. The meat was tinder and seem raw because of how soft it was but is fully cooked.

FINALLY found time and by pure luck was able to get a reservation to check out this super popular spot! I never got to try Uncle Boon's (rip). I went in with high expectations and it exceeded all that! First off, the crab fried rice everyone raves about -- AMAZING! I would get that again and again and again! I wish I ordered more of that because it was so good! The Pad Thai was good, as well! The portion felt a bit small as the big shrimp and bean sprouts took up most of the space. On the side we had spicy pea shoots which were really spicy and I had to take the rest home. The grilled octopus was really yummy, as well, especially with the green sauce. The banana pudding was custardy. The top part was hard to break at first lol. I'd go back and try their brunch next time and get more crab fried rice!
A lot of living in New York is waiting.
Whether it be waiting for the subway, waiting in line at Trader Joe's, waiting in line for a popular restaurant, etc. Waiting is kind of an inevitable element of New York life. But obviously one should weigh the opportunity cost of waiting with what they are waiting for. I went to Thai Diner on a Saturday afternoon with a group as I was told there was normally an hour or so wait on like a Friday or Saturday night. We ended up waiting only about a half hour to forty minutes or so. They take a small number of reservations. Anyway, on to the actual dining experience, overall it was a good experience but definitely not something I would wait a while for. I got a Thai Ice Tea and Noodles with Beef. They were pretty good, not remarkable. The space itself is pretty small, hence, the wait. But it's got a kitchy/homey vibe to it. I appreciate the effort that went into designing the interior of the restaurant. Overall, I would recommend trying it but would not wait more than a half hour for it as there definitely other Thai restaurants in the city without the wait/allow you to make reservations that have better food.
With a constant crowd gathered around every time I passed
With a constant crowd gathered around every time I passed by, I didn't think we could have snagged seats until we walked in one weeknight. There was a bit of a wait still, but not too long. This spot was mediocre at best, with high prices to go along with small portions. Sure, the interior was extravagant, but parties are squished into small square tables to accomodate everyone. I can't imagine sipping alc enjoyably in this tight space. I have a blander palette, so I found the food here saltier and heavier than other Thai places'. Their Disco Fries ($13) is a taste sure to linger in your breath thanks to the peanut-y spicy curry ingredient. It's labeled as a snack, but this heavy small plate alone did the opposite of opening up my appetite. I had amazing Khao Soi ($25) in the past so I was looking for something similar at this popular spot. The version of the dish here was so intensely heavy. Their soft noodles was a fantastic texture, but the crunchier ones just tasted like wonton strips to me. Crunchy, too thick to mesh with the soft noodles, and did not soak in the sauce well. The chicken leg was also not tender at all. Their menu was actually very limiting if you're looking to try other Thai food options. I'm happy to have experienced this once, but both my wallet and stomach left disappointed from this experience.
One of my favorite places to bring good friends if I can
One of my favorite places to bring good friends if I can get a reservation. The fried chicken phat see ew and Khao soi are must orders. The brunch food is where they especially shine though. One thing I think you can avoid is the crab fried rice, of the three times I've had it, I've never been especially impressed The Thai iced tea and the cocktails are delicious too You have to finish any trip here with the monster cake!

We had a wonderful dinner here! We put our names in & waited an hour and a half on a Friday night & they texted us once our table was ready! We enjoyed all of the food. They were very gluten free friendly. We loved the octopus and the fries. We also loved the pad see ew and the green curry! For dessert, the coconut Sundae was amazing. Would highly recommend.
Yumm! Loved this place for lunch.
We got the crab fried rice, disco fries and French toast. The crab fried rice and French toast were both delish!! Disco fries got pretty soggy with all the sauce soo wasn't a huge fan. Service was great and we got seated without resys on a weekday afternoon. Vibe was lively and busy for it being midday.

I LOVED Thai Diner! We were in town for a quick visit and met a friend for lunch. They picked the place and got us on the list to be seated. By the time we arrived, our table was ready. The booths are really small so if you're a bigger person, they might not be super comfortable. There are bar seats too like there should be in a diner. The menu is so super fun. I loved the thoughtfulness of it. Some typical or traditional diner plates but Thai style. For instance, I got the Thai Disco Fries. It was the bomb! It's pretty spicy hot so if you love hot, you'll love this. It's French fries topped with Massaman curry, green peppercorns, peanuts, and onions. Yum! Really fun dish. And bigger than I expected. We were having a late lunch with reservations elsewhere for dinner so I wanted something small. In comparison, my friend got the Phat Pad Thai entree and it was equally sized. By the way, she said it was the best Pad Thai she'd ever had (with the caveat that she'd not get the chicken again - it was fried and set on top as opposed to being in the dish. She wasn't a fan but said it didn't need it). It didn't stop me from eating the entire bowl of fries. I had to eat lighter at my fancy dinner and have no regrets! It's on my list to visit again next time we're in town.

Went with a group of 7 and the staff was rude and unwilling to help. Several had never experienced NYC or Thai to bad. Won't recommend this place.
About an hour wait on a Friday night for a table of 3.
We are three average size people and the tiny booth was very uncomfortable. We ordered the seafood tower, it was very good. Was looking for more punchy flavor in the salads and sauces. Nothing was actually spicy. The chicken liver appetizer was very good, came with good amount of hot roti and nice accompaniments, pineapple, herbs, onion, and a nice sauce. This was my favorite dish. Also got the khao soi (spelling?) it was good, decent portion and flavorful. Crab fried rice was delicious. Pitchers of tamrind mezcal margaritas, can't go wrong. Overall was looking for more heat and strong flavors, this was slightly elevated Thai but I'd be hesitant to go back.
The food was not that great.
I have had better Thai food. It is weird it is ranked so high. I expected the food to be great. The pad thai was greasy. The curry dish was not right. The sandwich everyone is raving about on tik tok wasn't great and I love roti. I didn't get the try dessert like I wanted too.
Uncle boon and Disco fries for the win!!
The line out the door here showed how great it was, so we had to eat dinner here. Highly recommend the disco fries, the som tum papaya salad and the uncle boons crab fried rice for mains. It was all delicious. We also had the uncle boons coconut sundae and the vegan tapioca pudding for dessert. Staff here were so accommodating and attentive. So friendly and we really felt important to them. Great recommendations on the menu. Highly recommend.
Good Food but Cold Service
The food is good especially the Braised Beef Short Ribs. The Crab Meat Fried Rice is fine as the value is not there. The Thai Iced Tea is bad as the tea should be from the powder and lack of ice and milk. The Roti is fine and the French Toast is good. Why 3 Stars? The servers are robotic, efficient, and cannot compare to “diners’ usual friendly service” without any contacts and forget about conversations. Cart Ching Cart Ching the money is ringing! When I paid 16% tips and not even a “thank you” or smiley face…. Manager: Are you paying your staff enough or just push for the revenue?
Buena comida thai
Nice thai food. Just to eat something different than italian or chinese. The place and the table are too small. No intimacy for a couple talk. 2 starters, 2 main courses, 1 coke, one sparkling water tip included $112. I think is too much for a 2 people lunch.
Delightful delicacies
The cucumber salad paired with fried chicken and sticky rice was a delectable combination. While the dressing leaned towards the salty and spicy side, it achieved a harmonious balance with the rice and chicken, creating a flavorful experience. As for the disco fries, they were a unique surprise that I had never encountered before. Seasoned with a delightful curry sauce, they proved to be a delicious addition to the meal. Overall, the dining experience was enjoyable and memorable.
Amazing Thai food
Unique dishes. Lots of flavour. Will definitely be back
Great experience!
We had an amazing time here! Found it on TikTok. The food was absolutely delicious! Will be back next week! The breakfast sandwich was to die for! And of course the Thai iced tea was amazing!
