That Mallu Joint - drool worthy Kerala cuIsine
We were told about this place and thought we should check it out. Run by young Roshina and her team. The place has limited seating , yet very cosy. Hence, there could be a waiting time. Outstanding seafood and a variety of dishes, a la Kerala cuisine. We had a gamut of dishes curated by Roshina herself. She said that the recipes for many of the dishes were borrowed from the kitchens of her Grandmother, who lived upto 100 -plus years. We had gone for lunch with family and friends. One of them loved the Beef Olathiyathu (fry) so much that he packed up a few extra plates to carry it home. We were told that they have a very special process that involves slow cooking as well to ensure that the meat is soft and succulent. The staff were friendly and helpful . Pricing was reasonable. An intriguing and unusual dessert to try out is Hot Vella Appam with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream !! An eating place that definitely is a great value for the money.

A good place for Kerala cuisine. Good location, though you need to take the stairs , as the lifts are rather slow and small. The selection of food is widespread, tried their rasam that is served in large glasses as a beverage, it was amazing.

Sad to see the outfit changed to a marriage hall, loud music, careless service, bad taste, above all... poor quality...

In recent times, i have been more cravings to Kerala cusinie. One of my friends suggested that mallu joint. So, i went today dinner. In simple terms, it's worthy ๐. Especially their Malabar Parotta and Erachi Roast were amazing ๐. Malabar parotta is so soft, flaky and big in size. No comments, for Erachi Roast. I was mesmerized after having Erachi Roast with Malabar Parotta. I Ordered Egg appam, taste wise it's good and we comes to dessert it's coconut ice cream.. After a long time I had a feel of having nice Kerala cusinie dishes ๐ฅ๐ฅ

Must Try Outlet in Chennai!
Second visit in two months and this place is just perfect for a hearty meal. Tastefully designed menu and options to choose from a variety of Keralaโs local delicacies makes this place a comeback destination.
We were a group of 5 and choose from Nethali to Atterachi to Kozhi curry to Erachi roast and more. Every single dish was worth trying and cooked to perfection.
Personal favorites- Egg Appam, Puttu (red rice), Nethili and Erachi choru (rice).
Dishes that we ordered- Egg Appam (rice pancake), Puttu (try the red rice option), Erachi Ularthiyathu (dry roast), Erachi Roast, Kandhari Kozhi curry, Atterachi chops (Mutton chops), Nethili fry (non-veg French fries ;) as I would like to call it) and Erachi choru (kerala style meat with rice)
Price- Average per person was around 650, which was a great deal for the above menu.

That tasty joint
Had a VERY satisfying dinner, from start to finish. We chose jeera pani which was slightly warm water with a flavor of jeera- this was perfect to sip throughout our meal.
The complimentary mango slices were just right to get our palates ready. The nethili fry was crisp, not greasy and the tawa prawns were incredibly soft, the spice blend a perfect balance. Loved the appams with the seer curry cooked in the clay pot - the large slices of onions in the curry were almost tastier than the fish.
We ended with tender coconut ice cream which was light and filling without being overpowering. The restaurant was lively and full, which made for a great overall experience.
The staff took care of all our needs without being overbearing.
Cannot wait to go back and try other dishes on the menu!!
Mallu joint..as good as one.
This time we decided to try 'That Mallu Joint' located on the top floor of Starbucks Coffe Shop at GN Chetty Road.
The big sign on the adjacent building was a bit misleading, we were lost for a moment until a guy sitting at the foot of the stairs directed us up towards the second-floor. From his demeanour I guess he's been directing these 'types' all day. The restaurant is past two huge wooden doors. The interior was very spacious and tastefully done. The menu is limited which is a good sign. The Chef can work better with less clutter on his hands.
'That Mallu Joint' offers dishes like vegetable meals, beef, fish grilled in banana leaves, prawns, squid fry, mutton masala and the famed thalasherry biriyani. But we opted to go with another classic Kerala dish, the 'Meen Moilee' (Seer-fish sautรฉed with turmeric, onions, tomatoes, green chillies, curry leaves and then gently boiled in a thick coconut-milk gravy.) Appam (pancakes made from fermented rice and coconut milk) accompanied the moilee. We also had 'puttu' (steamed ground rice in cylinders topped with coconut shavings) and fried squid with coconut bits.
The food was excellent. Waiters were not obtrusive but attentive. Pricing was OK. Will visit again...with a joint, at 'That Mallu Joint.'
Meen Moilee: 259rs
Squid fry: 199rs
Appam: 39rs
Puttu: 59rs
Service charge: 5%

A typical Kerala restaurant in the city !
A typical Kerala restaurant in the city. Staffs are very friendly. Great value for money and the food quality is great. Ample parking spaces right outside and an easy access. Beef dishes are worth the try along with parota.

Excellent service, good ambience.
Food is classic, try out the mango curry, wheat pirotta, chicken milk curry, chicken rice. Deal with the the tender cocunut icecream for desert and ofcourse the sugar neyyappam too. Great experience.
Most horrible service and Unpleasent
Been to Mallu joint with my family on Diwali day.. Started off with a problem in the parking area.. Asking me to park somewhere else after locking my car.
Secondly, we were the first ones in the restaurant. No choice to sit in the sofa at 12 noon??.
The people who took orders were so rude and no courtesy. They don't answer and just nod their heads. My lunch order was made. Only the side dishes came first.. They wait until we finish the dish and then bring only the food. When asked they say we need to tell them in advance to bring everything together. 2 Appams took 25mins to be served. The servers looked like thugs and walked like they were going to hit someone.. Very bad and irritating.
Overall very unpleasant and did not enjoy the food. Could not continue eating and went for better lunch outside. Will never step in here again.. Until some one takes interest in changing things and bring some manners and courser in the restaurant.
This was my first experience in this hotel. Spoilt Diwali we had. ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ท๐ทโโโ๐คฆโโ๐คฆโโ๐คฆโโ๐คฆโโ
Delicious Kerala food
What a fantastic experience! The first thing they served was complimentary raw mango slices with spices. Our order of prawn varattiyathu, appam with stew - veg and kozhi ishtew - was a perfect balance of spices. Ended with tender coconut ice cream which was amazing - I can still remember the taste of it.
I liked the short menu with an emphasis on good ingredients and excellent cooking.
The ambiance was busy with the restaurant at full capacity. Service was attentive.
A definite must try!
Sensational South Indian food
One the best South Indian food places I have had in my time here in Chennai. Ambiance and service were selected very well.
