3.5 starsI love the concept of Anchovy Bar - some wine and small bites in an intimate space - but I can't really figure out when I would come back here. None of the food stood out to me as something I would have to come back for, and the vibe is not quite a special occasion spot, but it's a bit too pricy to be a casual catch up spot with friends ($60 pp post tax/tip with no drinks). We got:Anchovy toast - local anchovy with pea and fava hummus over a sesame encrusted toast. Tasty.'Cazuela de Anxoves' w/ Fried Onions & Quail Eggs - I liked the way the quail egg on the bottom added a creaminess / richness to the fried onions, but the dish just felt too heavy with all the fried onions - people left the dinner hungry yet we had a bunch of this dish left over. Oyster bar mixed dozen - The oysters are very good and each kind is quite different, although oysters are never quite worth that much $$ to me (at $40 for a dozen).Summer corn salad - This was a surprise highlight - I loved the sweet summer corn paired with the peaches and topped with a light sprinkling of parmesan & basil. Light and refreshing.Smoked trout roe 'Chip & Dip' - I wanted more brininess from the trout roe, and I actually didn't love the mixing in of nori with the potato crema since it broke up the creaminess with this papery texture.Smoked mussels - It's a tiny dish and I honestly can't really recall how the mussels tasted. Forgettable.Brokaw avocado sticky rice - Creamy avocado and aioli on top was quite delicious, I just am not a big fan of sticky rice.Strawberry & ricotta semifreddo (with burnt meringue, candied walnuts & apple balsamic) - The dessert was the highlight of the meal. The burnt meringue was a nice textural contrast to the semifreddo, which was studded with candied walnuts and mixed with sweet strawberries. There's a lot going on in this dessert but it somehow mostly works. One of my friends said it was the best dessert they've had this year.
