Came here based on seeing a great review for French onion
Came here based on seeing a great review for French onion soup when we had a craving for it. It was the worst soup we have ever had and is not hard to mess up... cocktails were okay but overall very underwhelming

I went to the brass rail last weekend hoping for a good brunch experience. We got the $28 brunch deal and the food was excellent. However, I had the most uncomfortable service experience I have ever had. The waitress would not look at me - only asking my boyfriend questions/if he wanted anything and kept touching his arms (awkward). When we were done eating, she asked if we were done and continued to only clear his side, leaving my side with all of the plates until the hostess came over and asked if I needed to have my side cleared because she noticed no one had taken any of my plates. All in all, the food was good but the experience I had with our waitress made our brunch a bit uncomfortable - thankful for the hostess though that noticed things were off! Sadly, I don't think I will be going back. Just because he's the man doesn't mean he was the one paying! I should have been getting just as good service as he was.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a tail of two burgers.
..will start with stating I love this spot and hasn't had anything negative to say about the food until now + beer selection is great. This burger just didn't do it mostly due to the bacon being almost like chopped small bits instead of nice strips you'd expect. Flavor of the burger + Gouda cheese option was great flavor-wise, but just hard bc we eat with our eyes first and it was tough. Will be back again, bc food is usually A+ stuff!
Be the first to ReplyBrunched here a few weeks ago with some girlfriends.
Their brunch deal is excellent ($28 pp for 2 courses and a cocktail), but my drink was overly sweet, they were out of a few things on the brunch menu, and the overall ambience was just OK.

Tried our Brass Rail for the first time with some friends during brunch and they have a great brunch deal: $28 pp 2 course and a cocktail.I started off with a mimosa that tasted purelyof OJ, I prefer my mimosas with a "dash of OJ" (if ya know what I mean) and the baby kale salad which was good, perfect for a refreshing, light starter, followed by BR eggs Benedict which was good but I've had better eggs Benedict elsewhere.Overall ambience was cool and server was nice and attentive which is always great!
Be the first to ReplyOur third attempt to drink and be served at the bar here
Our third attempt to drink and be served at the bar here has proven to be another failure. The service is beyond slow. Avoid if it is busy. Or even if it is a quiet afternoon. Many other places with mediocre food on the same block.
Be the first to ReplyThe brunch deal here is great.
Super affordable and any subsequent alcoholic drinks are $5 each. However, the service the day I went was not great. It took an hour for our entrees to come out. And the mimosas had more orange juice than champagne. Due to the pricing I'm still giving the experience three stars

Tried this place as this was around my friend's neighborhood. We order breakfast burgers and Caesar salad.Caesar salad was plentiful and I loved the taste. The breakfast burger was abominable as the patty was drier than the deserts in Egypt. Both of my friends agreed.

We had the lobster Mac and cheese and my husband had a lobster roll. Neither was good. I was so hungry so I took a few bites despite my first bite being horrible, but I had to throw it away immediately after that. Not sure how to explain it but the lobster tasted like dish soap (?) - very strange. We've lived here a long time and I thought I was missing out by never having gone to this place , but turns out not so much. :(

The food was just okay. We did the prix fixe menu. I had the butternut squash croissant and a bananas foster French toast. I also had sangria. The red sangria was good! The croissant was a little dry but overall, pretty good. The French toast was not great, the banana slices were huge and didn't taste great. Decent experience overall, just wish the food was a little better for the price and all the hype this place gets.

I went there and sat at the bar and had a hair in the drink. When I asked for a different drink due to that the bartender seemed annoyed spilled the drink out and then gave me the same glass with the hair still in it. I then order a skirt steak for dinner and it was maybe a quarter of the size of a skirt steak. Also the mussels tasted like they were cooked in someone's sweaty gym sock water. I would not return if someone paid me to go.

Wife and I stopped in for a Drink,I ordered Honey Jack and ginger, wife ordered Bacardi and coke,my drink was not made with Honey Jack, wifes drink was not made with Bacardi,if your substituting alcohol it would have nice if the bartender said something.
Be the first to ReplyI have used this place as a first date spot for a while.
As a consequence, I have sampled just about all of their appetizers. When I finally came here for dinner with a friend, I was pleasantly surprised by the short ribs and steak, both of which I recommend. For the apps, the oxtail cavatelli is inspired. The truffle meatballs are great, and the lobster mac and cheese is good too. Honestly, just about anything you order here will be a good representation of whatever it is you're looking for. Great first date spot because it is nice (great decor, old school but clean and modern at the same time). They also have a great brunch. Convenient location if you need a good spot for your friends who are taking the PATH into town.Bartenders make great drinks, and the menu is available there too, so if you decide to only have an app and a drink but you want to stay and eat, you can!

Joey the bartender, and Edwin the Manager were amazing!!! I stopped by here with a friend of mine for a lunch and drinks, they were very attentive and helpful with helping me order! Great service, clean and friendly environment! Food was also to die for!!! Fantastic bar food! Will definitely be back!

Very good bar (elegant/classic bar area, great bartenders, wouldn't mind if they had a bit more diverse beer selection), mediocre food.
Be the first to ReplyI have been here for brunch twice.
Two very good experiences. The food is great (taste and portions) and the atmosphere is fun and comfortable. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyI've tried Brass Rail for dinner and brunch and both times
I've tried Brass Rail for dinner and brunch and both times were underwhelming. Drinks aren't that strong and the food is bland. I had the lobster mac and cheese for dinner and all of the flavor and cheese just sat on top of the mac. There wasn't much flavor in the rest of the dish. As for brunch, they offer a pre fixe menu on Saturday and Sunday where you can order 2 courses and 1 drink for $27. I had steak and fried eggs. Steak was a bit over cooked -- I ordered medium -- but the eggs were good! The sangria was flavorless and watered down. Honestly both meals were way too expensive for what you get which is always disappointing. The atmosphere is a typical pub feel and the staff is super friendly. But I'll pass next time I'm in Hoboken.
