I rarely write reviews but I felt compelled to write one on The Briars and give a fair warning to the general public. For starters when we arrived the owner was nice enough to "seat" us against the wall and directed us to our table by POINTING at it. Zero class this guy has, god forbid he had to walk us to the table like they do in any other restaurant I've ever been to. Our lovely table had disgusting crumbs on it and only had one chair. We had to pull a chair from another table. It took about 10 mins to even get a drink order in. For whatever reason the owner ran the drinks to our table and rudely goes "These Yours?" And then plops them down on the table. It took about 40 mins to just get our appetizers in, I know it's restaurant week but it wasn't even busy.My entree was the total opposite thing of what I had ordered. The waiter however was very apologetic for the kitchens incompetency. He did offer to get me the original order I had placed but honestly I didn't feel like being there another 4 hours. In fact the only bright spot of the night was our waiter, he was very polite and professional. He was the complete opposite of the Neanderthal owner who was grunting around the restaurant accomplishing nothing!I'd recommend keeping the owner in the back far, far away from the customers. He is not fit to manage the floor. I'd recommend giving those responsibilities to our waiter who was great! This guy deserves a raise and promotion having to work for such a cretin! As for the food, it was ok at best.

We were surprised to have delicious chocolate martinis's and a couple of appetizers. The zucchini croquettes and avocado slices were so yummy. This restaurant is a hidden gem. With the Hudson Valley Restaurant Week coming up in November 1st to 14th, do check this restaurant out.If I have time, I plan to go back and feast on their entrees. This off the beaten path restaurant is so homey. I can't wait until they turn on the fireplaces. Sometimes you want a local cozy place like this. We all agreed to return in the near future for a delicious meal. Don't miss this restaurant.

This place is nice to the eyes!! but let me start the count down...5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1.... I would stay clear from this place. 1st because the owner is a pompous unfriendly and arrogant individual. I could understand if everything was perfect and on point in this establishment . If there were 5 Star five star Michelin chefs cooking in this kitchen.... but there far from it. We ordered the stuff sole, it smelled and tasted like is was caught from the east river. When asked if the fish was fresh they said " all the fish is fresh everyday " I was better off going to Wendy's and getting the Alaskan Cod in the valve menu. I did really enjoy their version of penne ala vodka. I was good enough to eat and enjoy, but it did lack that little extra flavor. Overall the dish was good. The experience was just that. A experience and I will not go back. Maybe if the owner was a different person and understood that the customer makes or breaks a business and turns a new leaf Maybe just Maybe I would try it again.

My father and his co-workers have been going to Briars for 36 YEARS to date! About a month ago I went with him and now I understand why they continue to go here. It felt like the show Cheers going thru those doors. Even though it was my first time in there it had a very familiar feel to it.Pros:-warm welcome-very attentive wait staff, but not the bored/nosy type-cozy atmosphere-great quality food. Yes, I had a burger, but they use good ingredients/flavoring and know how to cook it properly. It isn't greasy like pubs-must have been recently renovated because it is super clean, nice flooring, and the bathrooms are quite modern-takes COVID precautions seriously-has their own parking lotCons:-it is a little too far for me, but if you live nearby you probably know about it. If you're just in the area check it out!Take overly critical reviews with a grain of salt. I thought about giving them a "4" rating because a lot of people ignore the 5 & 1 star reviews, but they really do deserve a 5. Stay safe everyone!

Even though this place has been around for DECADES its God AWFUL. Drinks take a loooong time. Bourbon neat comes in a snifter -then a wine glass(!) wtf?! Shows thats there's such inexperienced staff. The owner said only vegan options are "you can have a salad". Way to go jerk. ( GET OFF YOUR PHONE AND WALK AROUND) A group of us, business meeting: "specialappetizers": fried nastiness. NEVER EVER coming back. Neither are my colleagues.

The Briar's has been a staple in Briarcliff for my entire life. After recently undergoing a MAJOR renovation, I think this restaurant has come back better than ever. It's cozy, humble and reliable. The shell steak, prime rib, pork chop and hamburger are always consistent and delicious. During soft shell crab season, we come here weekly to have the soft shell crabs francese. The clams are always fresh and delicious and the complimentary cole slaw is always crunchy and perfectly seasoned. I am not sure why more young families/couples do not frequent this restaurant. I highly encourage all to try - you won't be disappointed!

It is not a seafood restaurant. We went with friends last night and I have never been so disappointed and dissatisfied. Having eaten here several times before when the food and service were very good. Last night was a disaster. Only 2 women serving. We were told the kitchen was "overwhelmed ". The main room was full but the room we were in had 3 occupied tables. Our soup was cold, the king cut prime rib was no where near a king cut and was served cold. The baked potatoes were even cold. We don't send food back for fear of spit on the return. It was 7:15 on a Saturday night. In my opinion, they should have spent the money they used to redecorate on new kitchen staff. Will not be returning anytime soon.

The wait staff was super attentive and made sure that we were taken care of the entire time. In addition to bread, the restaurant served a salad before the entree. It was a nice touch that you don't see very often anymore.
Be the first to ReplyDecided to check the place out again after several years.
Our server, Caroline, was friendly and attentive, and there was enough food (meatloaf special) and seafood-stuffed mushrooms for the next day's lunch. We loved everything from the complimentary cole slaw to the French martini. Will definitely become a more frequent diner!
