The Butcher's Block is a nicely decorated butcher shop and restaurant in Long Branch. I had a reservation at 7pm but was seated at around 7:50pm on a Tuesday. They might have been short staffed but that's still a significant wait time with a reservation. Furthermore, the steak came out a couple minutes before the sides and the waiter did not come back to ask if everything was up to par. Regardless of the service, the food was delicious. The sausage appetizer was well balanced with delicious potatoes and sausages. The steak was seasoned to perfection and the Brussels sprouts were amazing. Captain Crunch Brussels sprouts was an intriguing combination but it worked. Their mashed potatoes were great and paired well with a delicious beef gravy. That being said the food was great but the service was lackluster.
Best steak in the world.
Undeafed. Atmosphere is absolutely thriller! Service is next level. Can not beat the butcher block. At least not in this universe!

Hot summer day we entered The Butcher Block with a reservation. The restaurant was uncomfortably warm inside. Our waitress came over and said their A/C was bonkers. We ordered Martinis, they took 20 minutes! Not off to a great start. We ordered oysters and they came before drinks. The oysters were delicious! We shared a Caesar salad, it tasted fine but unfortunately the lettuce was not very cold. Who likes a room temperature Caesar salad? We ordered more Martins , unfortunately they arrived after our terrible salty steak! We ordered the Porterhouse for two, $158. The meat was extremely salty, we could not finish it. I've never in my life sent a steak back for too much salt, it was horrible! The waitress took it away with our uneaten spinach and presented the bill. Nothing was taken off bill and she didn't bring the steak or spinach. Not that I wanted the steak but she charged us. We paid and left. Just as we are staring our vehicle a manager called, he asked for me to come back in. He apologized and credited me for the steak. I'm sure he tasted it and realized it was not edible. We were really looking forward to trying Butcher Block, unfortunately it was not a great experience.
Loved it, great place, atmosphere, food is amazing, service
Loved it, great place, atmosphere, food is amazing, service was very good, will definitely come back here again
Not even sure where to begin.
Hands down best restaurant we have ever been to in NJ. Food was fantastic service was the best ever from beginning to end perfect night with family and friends for our celebration. Ribeyes were on point all the sides were wonderful and the place itself is just charming and the ambiance is so welcoming. A TRUE steakhouse and so much more! Cannot wait to go back!
Overall good food but a bit pricey for what you get.
Have eaten there many times and for the most part always left satisfied.
OK, here is the real deal.
Pulling up to the restaurant we really didn't know what to expect. We have been to many steakhouses around the country and our expectations were low, especially for a steakhouse in Long Branch NJ. Well, immediately pulling up to the valet in the courtyard, the gentleman opened our vehicle door and welcomed us. The aroma of the restaurant was amazing. Envision European wood burning hillside location. Yes, seriously. The host was very friendly and knowing that it was our first time showed us the butcher shop. Nothing short of amazing. Dry aged steak perfectly lined in coolers makes your mouth water. Shortly after we were escorted to our outdoor table. Impressive is putting it lightly. The old world feel of the brick and exposed wood complemented the decor. Combined with the hint of wood burning made the overall ambiance one of my overall top picks. Unfortunately, as the restaurant became increasingly busy, the smoke became more intense and with the wind blowing we got hit directly with the smoke which at times became overwhelming. On to the drink and food! We started the meal with Cosmopolitans, Moscow Mules and a Dirty Nasty Martini. The Cosmos were a little sweet, which the wives enjoyed, the Mule was good but not served in a copper mug, disappointing, and the martini was definitely amazing with hints of truffle and blue cheese. We ordered the sausage with potatoes and broccoli rabe and the calamari for appetizers. The sausage was by far the best of the two. The flavor was nothing short of old world classic meets new world style. For the steaks we chose to do family style and ordered three different types, ribeye (medium), porterhouse (medium rare) and the fan favorite, spinalis (medium rare). Sides included the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. First the porterhouse, it was by far the best of the three. Cooked perfectly, tender and not over salted. The ribeye was also very tasty and cooked to perfection. The spinalis, unfortunately was overcooked and a little dry, but still it was good. On to the desserts! We ordered the mango sorbet, tiramisu and the orange poundcake with ricotta cheese. Hands down the poundcake was the best, with the tiramisu a close second. The poundcake was bursting with flavor and the ricotta was complimentary and not overwhelming. The tiramisu was light and fluffy but needed a little more coffee taste. Overall the experience was amazing. The only setbacks were the smoke, which unfortunately you cannot control and the price. Saying that the meal was expensive is putting it lightly. I highly recommend giving it a try especially for a special occasion.

The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is we had to wait 50 minutes past our reservation time which we were not expecting at all. We have been to very high end restaurants everywhere and have never waited this long for a reservation! We were very put off about this. Once we finally got a table we met our waiter who was very friendly and all around a great server. The service here is excellent, never waiting more than a minute for our water glasses to be refilled. This restaurant is filled with beautiful people - both the workers and the patrons. Great people watching! Now the food- we started with the tuna crudo which was spicy tuna crispy rice. Rice came out hot and crunchy, tuna was nice size cubes. Best spicy tuna crispy rice I've had other than nobu. Next we got the Brussels sprouts and spicy rig. Both were excellent! Nice big portions perfect for sharing. For dessert we got the churro bowl. We don't usually get desserts but heard rave reviews about this dessert and we were not let down! Highly recommend. When it was time to get the check out server told us dessert is on them to night because of our long wait which was much appreciated, and did make us feel better about the long wait. My one real complaint is we were seating right by the indoor bar- at the table closest to the open fire to cook the steaks and it was truly very hot and uncomfortable. I would go back and make sure to request a different seating area (not sure if they would listen but I would still ask lol)

1. Disappointing CheckโIn Cast a Shadow on our Anniversary My anniversary dinner at The Butcher's Block had all the promise of a memorable affair--but the execution missed the mark. 2. CheckโIn Chaos Though we booked our reservation well in advance, the checkโin left us baffled. There was no stationary host to direct us, resulting in confusion and awkwardness. With nothing to guide us, it felt like we were imposing rather than guests. 3. Unfulfilled Expectations After stating we preferred indoor seating, we were advised that our table was ready and the host pointed us to a table outside. I politely reminded him "oh you asked me and I preferred to be inside" after that we waited nearly 45 minutes to be seated--despite the reservation. If reservations are offered, why the extended wait? Finally a table, unfortunately being placed in a room dominated by the sight of raw meat and the open kitchen views of food searing, turned what should have been a romantic setup into something more clinical. The lingering scent on my dress and hair had me feeling like I cooked our meal --definitely not ambiance. 4. A Stellar Server Saved the Night Thankfully, our server, Kevin, was a warm attentive, warm, and perceptive, Kevin sensed the night was off to a rocky start and made sincere efforts to turn things around. His service, dedication, and positive energy were the highlight--and most appreciated part--of the evening. 5. Food and dessert were great. However, I cherish experience as well. It's a beautiful place but I fear THIS experience is what I'll remember most.
What a horrible experience.
My husband and I are both professionals, seniors, and grandparents. We went to the Butcher's Block to celebrate my birthday, and a year of being cancer free. We each ordered steak. My steak unfortunately was not edible. It was tough and I did not eat it. I asked our waitress to take it away. The manager came over. He was polite and apologetic and said he would discount my steak 100% off the check, and I thanked him. That would have been the end of our experience, until moments later the waitress came over and said the steak was only discounted 50%. When I asked why the contradiction with what the manager just told us, she said she didn't know and she would go talk to the owner. I told her I could not leave a good review because our check did not reflect what the manager had just told us moments earlier. Within two minutes the owner rushed to our table. He accused me of "threatening" to leave a bad review (without knowing what transpired). In the middle of the dining room he yelled, swore at us, told us to "get out", mocked my weight and our attire, and called my husband several expletives. He then retreated to the lobby and continued to try and humiliate us by calling us names and mocking us while we were exiting the building. He was vile and just kept ranting, even though no one was answering him. His own staff couldn't silence him. He was completely unhinged in front of guests in the dining room, lobby and parking lot. At one point the waitress even said "oh no, here we go", as if his unprofessional behavior was commonplace. He continued to follow us down the steps and into the parking lot, and for 7 minutes (while we waited for the valet to retrieve our car), he continued to yell, swear and mock us in front of other patrons, to the point that the people standing next to us said that they would never return. Such an unprofessional, rude, and hostile attitude and demeanor, for someone who is in a service industry business, is not only unconscionable, inexcusable and uncalled for, but also petty and indignant. How pathetic for a grown man to verbally attack and terrorize a couple who are at least 30 years his senior.
Ok food was good but absolutely not worth $585 for 2 people.
Full disclosure (3) margaritas (1) decaf espressotini, bacon appetizer, scallop appetizer, steak for 2 and blueberry cobbler desert. Steak was assumed to be price listed, wrong. Price is per pound, most steaks are 3 pounds. Happily would've paid $300 but a random 3% service fee was added (paid cash). Waiter was definitely new to the place, seemed displaced and no knowledge of basic things. Most waiters and bartenders kept dropping F bombs. For an upscale place it just shocked me, we all curse but this was too much and unnecessary. Ambiance dark but sleek, most people used bright cell phone light to read menu. Attached are the menu, delicious espressotini and bill for reference. Great place but won't be back.
My family and I went here to celebrate my son.
The food was amazing! The meat,Brussel sprouts, roasted vegetables, roasted carrots and roasted potatoes were so delicious. We also had the spicy calabrese pasta!! So goood! The service was a 10! Our server was so pleasant and fun! When we walked in we met the owners father. He gave us a tour of the entire restaurant and the history of how it came to be. We talked about Italy and how some of the decor was inspired by the Italian culture. I can't wait to go back!! Love this place!
Cannot speak highly enough regarding the butchers block.
Every aspect is top tier. The service we had was unforgettable with every entree and recommendation given in descriptive detail. The atmosphere is great, the place is spacious & clean. The food was incredible from the spicy pasta we ordered as an app, the to the perfectly cooked/seasoned steak for two. We will definitely be back, and I would highly recommend the butchers block!

If you're visiting the Jersey Shore, you need to get a reservation here. The atmosphere, service and food were phenomenal. 10/10
The Butcher's Block is an exceptional restaurant.
We requested to be seated in the main dining room, and although we had to wait an extra 45 minutes, they accommodated all our requests. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and recommended the Kansas City Wagyu for two, which was one of the best steaks I've ever had and one of the best steaks they sell. We also started with the steak tartare and Caesar salad, both of which were excellent. Every aspect of this meal was incredible, and I cannot recommend this place enough. The restaurant has a dim, intimate atmosphere, perfect for a Saturday night out. There's also a bar where you can enjoy drinks before being seated.
Absolute great service, from the appetizers to the dessert.
Throughout the meal, we ended up either taking a break to step outside or go to the bathroom and the waiters wait and time the food so that when we were ready, the next meal was presented. Great staff, great food, and great service.
The food was amazing.
Get the Brussels Sprouts. So good. The meat was one of the best. But the icing on the cake, was the service. We had Pete and Dalton as our servers and we couldn't have gotten better servers. Happy, pleasant, and knowledgeable. Made our meal.

I'd give it 11 stars out of 5 if I could! Every single detail is well thought out in this place ... from the music to the reception style entrance and nooks and cranny's in between. We got the bone marrow pizza which seemed to be pizza napoleontana style and it was incredible. One of the specials was Girella pasta with a lobster sauce and that was just as good or even better. Amazing service as well. Can't wait to come back!

Delicious and gorgeous.
Delicious food in an amazing environment. We loved it and will definitely return for another yummy meal. We also ordered meat from the butcher shop โฆ fantastic!
Waste of time and money
This place is overpriced and annoying. The waiter was basically YELLING at us to order lots of nonsense that he was told to upsell. I speak and read English perfectly and do not need to be told how to read a basic menu. My cappuccino took ONE hour to receive after asking four people where it was. This is some lower middle class person's idea of an elegant restaurant. Instead, I would rather go to an ACTUAL elegant restaurant. Waste of time and money -- never coming back.
Unprofessional, terrible ambiance, and overpriced!
Went for my wifeโs birthday. Experience was terrible. Dined outside where construction was underway making it rather unpleasant, couple that with a large parrot, yes a parrot, that was above our table picking away at himself/herself and the wood decorative scaffolding and was flinging it down on us during our dinner. Finally when we were finishing the parrot was literally right above my head and I simply got up to move away. It then turned and cawed at my 7 month pregnant wife who was shaken and jumped up and screamed out in fear. The โhostessโ who was not dressed appropriately at all then came over to try and get the parrot actually the proceeded to use the seat my wife was sitting on as a makeshift ladder to stand on to try and get the parrot. It was a fiasco. Good luck trying to getting someone on the phone to try and have a civilized discussion about the awful experience they have no phone number! For the review of the food. It was just alright, and given the prices they charge itโs certainly not worth considering. Stay away!!
A little disappointed
Took my daughter for a special night out, told her it was an experience not just a restaurant last time I went! I specifically asked for outdoor dining Because the outdoor dining room was beautiful! No one told me it was on the construction! I dropped between five and $600 to eat dinner looking at plywood in a construction site! At least you couldโve painted it and put up some flowers or shrubbery to hide the brickwork and plywood! I ordered my steak medium. It came out raw in the middle not edible, And my side of crisp potatoes came out about 10 minutes after we finished our steak and it was too hot to even eat! Oh yeah, the Staff seemed a little inexperienced and young, Unlike my last great experience!! iโll give it one more shot and if itโs the same, bye-bye to the block!!๐ณ
Dark and Noisy
Arrived yesterday for a 12:30 lunch date with another couple and we were looking forward to a great steak and some friendly conversation. When we entered it appeared that there may have been a power outage the restaurant was that dark, apparently not the case. We were seated at a small table in a corner and asked to be reseated and we were. The music was so loud that I couldn't have a conversation with my friend seated right next to me! The waiter took our drink order and returned to explain the menu, which we had been reviewing with the help of our iPhone flashlights! The waiter started to review the different steaks available and all I could think of was the Fedex commercial where the announcer was speaking at the speed of light. After a few minutes we asked if they could turn down the music volume so we could have a conversation and the waiter said he would. He returned and said that the manager had turned down the volume and it was still incredibly loud, this is a restaurant with pricey food not a disco! I asked the waiter for the check and told him we would be leaving. After seeing the steak selection, I was so disappointed that we wouldn't have the opportunity to slice into one of the beautiful slabs of beef. We opted to go to Rooney's for a seafood meal, not what I was hoping for but much more enjoyable than the racket we just left!
Worst customer service ever experienced.
Our much-anticipated birthday celebration at Butcher Block Steakhouse quickly transformed into a nightmarish ordeal, leaving us utterly dismayed and disheartened. With hopes high and appetites whetted, we eagerly placed our order: a tantalizing Porterhouse Steak for two priced at a hefty $158, cooked to a perfect medium-rare, accompanied by a side of Brussels sprouts. Alas, the culinary calamity commenced almost immediately. A full twenty minutes before the arrival of our main course, the Brussels sprouts made an untimely appearance, disrupting the rhythm of our meal and leaving us puzzled by the misplaced timing. The real debacle, however, unfolded with the grand unveiling of our Porterhouse Steak. Presented on a cold, metallic pan, the steak exuded none of the warmth or sizzle one would expect from a premium cut of meat. Upon voicing our dismay to the waiter, we were assured that the issue would be promptly addressed. To our disbelief and dismay, the same frigid steak returned to our table, evidently reheated but still lacking the essential element of warmth. Incredulous, I dared to touch the chilling metal pan with my own hands, a clear indication of the steak's inadequate temperature. Seeking resolution, I escalated the matter to the manager, hoping for a semblance of accountability and rectification. Instead, what ensued was a baffling exchange marred by arrogance and disdain. Dismissively, the manager asserted that multiple individuals had deemed the steak "warm," implying that our dissatisfaction was unwarranted. In a futile attempt to convey the basic tenets of culinary excellence, I cited esteemed establishments such as Peter Luger's, Ruth's Chris, and Gabriella's, where the hallmark of a superior steak is its piping hot presentation. In response, the manager's retort was as shocking as it was unprofessional: a thinly veiled threat, accompanied by the suggestion that we take our business elsewhere. Stunned by the manager's audacity and incensed by his insolence, we found ourselves escorted out under the guise of security intervention, our evening of celebration abruptly truncated by Butcher Block's abysmal display of customer service. In retrospect, the dismal experience at Butcher Block Steakhouse stands as a stark reminder of the stark contrast between mediocrity and excellence in the realm of dining. Without hesitation, we shall heed the manager's ill-advised counsel and return to Gabriella's, where culinary mastery is matched only by a commitment to exemplary customer satisfaction. I've never been asked to leave a restaurant because I pointed out that the steak was cold. I ordered a grilled steak not steak TarTar.
Spectacular
Went on 4/3/2024 for dinner with my niece. Reservation was for 6:00. We then received the tour of the โsteakโ room which was informative and fun. We were then seated and greeted by our servers, Chandler and Dalton. I can not say enough about how gracious, welcoming and knowledgeable Chandler and Dalton were throughout the meal. We shared the slab bacon appetizer and the 32 ounce rib eye and crispy potatoes. Everything just perfect. The streak literally, just melted in your mouth. Enjoyed it so much, made a reservation for June as we leftโฆ
Absolutely loved the food and drinks.
Not to mention the ambience. I took my husband here for his birthday and I can't wait to come back again.

I wanted to take my son somewhere for a great steak on his birthday. I had been to The Butcher's Block before with my husband. Excellent service - ambiance- and the steak will bring us back. We are already planning our next visit!

4.5 stars for a steak house that checks all the boxes for a great experience. *We had the spicy bolognese pasta, charbroiled oysters, Caesar salad, broiled brussel sprouts, and the salmon crudo for our sides. -- All our side dishes shone except for the salmon crudo. The Caesar salad has enough twang and bite, the Brussels spouts was perfectly charred and mixed in with a sweet and sour sauce topped with Capn Crunch cereal (believe me, for some reason it works). Our oysters were topped with butter and Parmesan, and the flavors were all there- would've loved to see more for the price and size of the oysters ($28 for 6) . The salmon crudo was lacking in flavor and was resting on a bed of thick cream sauce instead of a tart base. * For our steaks, we had the 45 day aged rib eye, and the Spinalis. -- our steaks were perfectly cooked to a medium rare, and the aged rib eye was cut and broiled well. For the price though I thought it could've had more oomph and seasoned like the likes of Peter Luger and the other solid steak establishments. The sizing was not as big as the price would demand, but overall it was a good steak. The Spinalis was expectedly tender. We had to ask for a side of salt for our steaks. * For drinks, we had the IPA, and 2 cocktails: one with spicy pear and one with yuzu. They are both regulars on their drinks menu, and they were both GREAT. * For dessert, we had the S'mores with Dulce de leche ice cream topped with a thick chocolate shell - superb! Ambience is cozy, romantic and upbeat depending on where you sit. They have the brick and chandelier thing going on which I love. They keep the lighting low and warm. Yet it doesn't effuse a study vibe, still casual and fun. valet parking for dinner and park your own for lunch. Reservations highly recommended.
Such a good experience when we went last weekend.
The atmosphere and the food were exceptional. Pro tip: ask for no salt and add your own when you receive the steak; sometimes the Brazilian cooking method makes it too salty. Can't wait to come back!
Dam good meal and great service.
Tom the Block rivals any steakhouse in NYC, Chicago, etc. great time tonight.
The wait was atrocious considering we had reservations.
The food was delicious; every course The music and the ambiance was by far the best Our waiter Brandon -- AMAZING. He made us feel at home and explained everything with patience. We sat in the back patio section but he needs to be in the main seating area so more guests can experience his service!
Awesome experience
Awesome dinner and experience. Wait staff exceptional, food delicious. Only criticism, booked as a birthday dinner, no mention of birthday, or anything special. Yes, pricey, but definitely a special occasion go to place. NO Steak will ever compare!
Another amazing night at The Butcher's Block.
Elegant atmosphere with a rustic twist. Love that you can watch the chef's cook over the high flames. Food is always delicious and service makes you feel like you are the only one your waiter is helping that night. Menu changes every few weeks so there is always something exciting to try. Started with the Winter Salad which was more than enough for two people and plenty to take home. The Spicy Rigatoni was perfect. Just the right amount of heat and a nice portion. Also ordered the short ribs Campanelle (shredded beef over fresh trumpet pasta shapes). I can't wait to go back for a third time.
Never disappoints.
From the bread to the coffee this place always impresses. I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience.

Our server Gabe was so great with his recommendations and he was so kind!!!! The spinalis steak was like butter and so worth it, this place is definitely worth the hype!
Met all expectations!!!
Impossible to get a reservation. I put myself on the waitlist they called me at 1:30 for 2:30 opening and we rushed there. You get a quick tour and run down of the meats and the cuts in their showcase which was helpful. I never heard of Spinalis cut and decided to try it. It was the best tasting thing I've ever had in my life! Which I must have mentioned on the way home a hundred times! We shared a Caesar salad which was ginormous and plenty. The steaks do not come with any sides and the only two sides I saw offered were brussel sprouts or french fries. My husband had the Kansas City Strip, it comes precut which is nice. The only complaint I have is it is so dark in there. You have to use the flashlight on your phone to even see the menu. I don't know why restaurants have to be that dark
Save your money!!!!!!
Overpriced with limited menu options. Got there at 452p for a 5p reservation. โWe are not ready for youโ. We waited in an uncomfortably small bar area. Eventually, I noticed other tables being seated. I asked them if our table was ready and they said โyesโ. Well, when did you plan on letting me know.??? No Prime Rib. No burger. Can you make me a chicken parm instead of a veal parm? No. The vibe: you are lucky to be here and lucky to drop $400 on dinner for two. Zero hospitality. Less than zero Rather drive into Manhattan to a real steakhouse.
Delicious
Amazing date night! My husband and I came to celebrate my birthday. The service was impeccable, the ambiance was beautiful, the cocktail/wine selection was fantastic, and the food was delicious. We had the tuna crisp special for an appetizer, which was outstanding. For our entrees, we shared the waygu KC strip and the spinalis, with the crispy potatoes and brussels sprouts. All were excellent! On par with any steakhouse in the city. Great experience.
Good, but Pricey
There is complimentary valet (make sure to tip) otherwise its street parking (they have a very tiny parking lot available). Though there is nothing to shield you from the weather when waiting for the valet. Servers were very nice. Place is definitely crowded so it can easily get a little loud. Food and cocktails were good but did not quite meet the level I expected for the price point. The brussel sprouts were honestly my favorite thing.
Best steaks around!
We tried this place for our sonโs birthday (heโs a huge steak fan). I am originally from KC, so Iโm always in search of a great steak. Well, look no further! This place is A++! We had the ribeye for 2 and the KC strip, plus a Caesar salad, sautรฉed mushrooms and crispy potatoes. All were delicious and cooked perfectly. I thought the KC strip was better than the ribeye, but both were delicious! Definitely a lot of food to share between the 4 of us (which they encourage). Service was also fantastic. My only โbeefโ haha, is itโs dark and hard to read the menu; plus they didnโt have cocktail prices listed. Very strange. But, overall, loved this place! We will be back!
An expensive but good dining experience
This place is always packed, which is crazy since you can't get a reservation unless you actually go there (nobody answers the phone). The food is expensive but good. Servers are friendly but can be busy.
An ABSOLUTE MUST!
We go to The Butcher's Block every time we are in town. The Service is 5 Star The Food is 5 Star The Vibe is 5 Star The Music is 5 Star
There are far better choices. Would not return
Pretentious and overpriced. Had 45-day aged ribeye - a bit tough, expected better considering the hype and the price. Sides were excellent, server - Stephanie was wonderful! Playing rap music during dinner - completely inappropriate. They donโt seem to know who they want for a customer. It is lacking in refinement. There are far better choices available.
What a beautiful place with excellent food
Was invited for a lunch here. It is VERY DIFFICULT to get evening reservations, so if you really want to go, make a lunch reservation. They must be made online. The restaurant does NOT have a phone. From the moment you enter the parking lot, from the artwork to the exterior decorations, you can tell all the work that went into the place. Then you walk inside and wow. Areas with large glass windows with indoor fireplaces. Several cozy rooms. Bathrooms with all brick walls and additional wall art. Service was very good. They bring you to the glass enclosed steak area and explain all your choices. We picked on this occasion, the wagyu skirt steak which was wonderful. The meals here are going to cost you, but you won't walk away feeling like you didn't get what you paid for. Looking to return with other friends and family, if I can ever get a reservation online.
Delicious
