Look, the food is tasty, but it's not particularly original. In fact I would have given this review 3 stars, but the service, especially during COVID, was exemplary. We were accommodated with a spot outside on a nice night even though we had booked an inside table. We were seated right away, and our server was friendly and gave good advice. As for the food and drink... The food was so, so rich. I mean everything was either fried, or covered in some sort of thick sauce, so yes some of the dishes were sinfully good. It's just that I've had more inventive versions of these fine dining dishes such as ossobuco or liver pâté elsewhere. I just didn't think the chef's approach worked for me here as much as it did in their recently closed sister restaurant Eugenes in Portchester. Eugenes took traditional diner food and elevated it to something marvelous. It was just as rich as the food at The Cookery, but as their concept was doing cool things with tuna melts and breakfast sandwiches, this seemed totally appropriate. I do so hope the owners can bring back Eugene's again in some other location once the pandemic has lifted.
