Superb
In my humble opinion The Delaunay is the best dining room in London. Always vibrant - great service - caring staff. Great food. Wha5 more could you want ?
Be the first to ReplyA Central London staple
We always enjoy a visit to The Delaunay. Staff are friendly, dishes are served to a high standard (quality sausages from the Austro-Germanic world, including irresistible specialities such as the cheese-stuffed Berner Würstel) but also more prosaic treats like fries (punctiliously fried and tasty). I also very much liked the sauerkraut, which always has such a salubrious quality. This is also an attractive restaurant with a strong sense of place. Complete with an expansive wine list and unusual cocktails, The Delaunay an acceptable, indeed recommendable, spot for dining in the centre of the capital.
Be the first to ReplyNot good today
I’ve eaten at The Delaney several times and it’s always been good, but not on this occasion. My companion’s avocado was rock hard and had to be sent back. My green salad was just a whole iceberg lettuce and the weiner schnitzel had the texture and taste of cardboard. I had to ask for another knife as the first one was blunt, but the replacement wasn’t much better. The dish was very poor. My Dorset crab starter was good, but the main at £35.00 was unacceptable. Such a pity.
Be the first to ReplyEating here is a total pleasure!
Smart surroundings, decent food and joined-up, highly professional, friendly service right from the get-go - from the doorman, the cloakroom, the reception to the waiters, they know just how to make everyone feel welcome. We had the three course prix fixe, all of which was delicious, would particularly recommend the seared mackerel with pickled courgettes which was a very good combination, and the Bavarian chocolate mousse.
Be the first to ReplyBest schnitzel in London, good veg options, slightly slow service
Lovely atmosphere and loved the food too. I went with a German/Austrian colleague who said these were the best Shnitchzel and Socherkate that she had tasted in London! I am a vegetarian and it was so welcoming to see they had an aubergine schnitzel for me, it was super tasty and a very good size. We ordered four desserts including as ice cream which as simple as it sounds, was absolutely delicious! My only draw back was the service was a little slow. I had to ask for the bill and after 15mins, no one came to take payment which was a little embarrassing in a business setting so went to go pay at the reception counter after saying bye to everyone who had to leave asap.
Be the first to ReplyThe OG English Breakfast experience
We had a long breakfast here today. The service—provided by Alexandra—was exceptional. This is the place for a traditional English breakfast. Everything is done well from the silver teapot and toast rack, to the hot chocolate that comes with little rolls of chocolate to complement the rich luxurious drink. I’m fussy about my Full English and this, while not the most inexpensive one around, delivers on every note. Keep it up!

Fairly unimpressed overall. We did the set pre-theatre menu and I ordered salmon for starter which was nice but nothing particularly special. I then had chicken spatchcock for the main which wasn't particularly flavourful and had to order an extra side as didn't come with anything. I think I would describe this place as 'style over substance' and won't be rushing back.
Be the first to ReplyJust a lovely experience…
In the heart of the hustle & bustle that is the London vibe at its most potent, this place is an oasis of style, poise and taste - literal and metaphorical. On paper, this is a ‘posh’ restaurant but the ambience belies a certain informality. Our party was an eclectic mix of workers and non, ‘dressed’ and ‘less so…’ and nobody batted an eyelid. Single diners hovering over their paper, couples heading for the theatre, business catch-ups and friends socialising…; everyone has their place. The menu is tempting and often takes a ‘basic’ dish and tarts it up ! The haddock goujons for example, were delicious - plump & tasty & plentiful - but it was the minted pea mash that stole the show ! An altogether satisfying experience ; reasonably priced and suitably tasty !

I love the interior design of the Delaunay, it's sophisticated and understated. It's also a great location, especially for theatre-goers. The food is delicious. Fabulous quality and perfectly cooked. The duck, in particular, is amazing. The non alcohol cocktails are lovely, and they have the nicest house red I've ever tasted. Overall the staff are excellent, however, we did find that after our main course was brought out the attentiveness of the waiters servicing our table dropped. We had to find people three times to ask for drinks and nobody asked if we wanted dessert - we had to beckon over one of the other waiters. It wasn't particularly busy at this point either, most of the tables had gone on to their theatre bookings. I do love it here though. I'll be back
Be the first to ReplyBest chicken schnitzel.
This place was my favourite restaurant in London. The chicken schnitzel was one of the best I have ever had. The service was friendly and the venue was stunning. I highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely perfect
Love everything about the Delauney. Prawn cocktail starter was best we had ever tasted. Our main course fish dishes were superb. Service was excellent, pleasant and efficient. Decor lovely, tables nicely separated. Can’t wait to return.

Be the first to ReplyFriendly, atmospheric, relaxed
Very nice meal. The staff was very friendly. The atmosphere was nice. The restaurant was very nice and very busy. My meal was excellent. I had a New York hot dog which was excellent. For dessert I had a vanilla cheesecake it was lovely. I would recommend it to everyone to come here. I would come here again
Be the first to ReplySadly losing then. charm
We are regular visitors, and have been since it first opened and I have loved the place for many years. We have been a few times since the Pandemic finished and sadly each time there has been something that has put me off returning. The welcome from the hosts and doorman is always lovely. The serving staff are hit and miss. You can be lucky and get great service, but you can be unlucky as we were last week and get surly and unremarkable service. The food quality is always consistently good and the menu is interesting. The wine list is also interesting. They have a new horrible bill system where you have to log on to their wifi (not a one click thing), there was no phone signal in the room so we had to do it, then it all got so complicated trying to split the bill in two and then they have the nerve to try and push you into adding a "tip" on top of the increased 15% service charge. Honestly it took 15 minutes to try and sort out the bill and in the end I called a lovely waiter over to help us and he ended up printing one for us (old style) without the embarrassment or pressure of the extra tip con!. We didn't even notice the QR code card on the table for the bill but wondered why nobody had bothered to come over since our dessert had been cleared and nobody had mentioned the new system. To be honest the grumpy original server and the new bill system spoiled our evening and it would make me hesitate to go back despite having such good experiences in the past.
Be the first to ReplyQuality downhill, prices uphill
At one time my husband and I were regular visitors to The Delaunay. We used to bring visitors and clients. We would enjoy the jovial chap receiving us, and felt a sense this was a home-from-home kind of places. Importantly, the prices were reasonable. The menu was reliably unchanged every time. My recent visit, again with a friend who happens to be a judge at a nearby Court, was not so nice. The Chicken Schnitzel has leapt from £17.95 to £24.95. The quality by contrast has gone downhill. The Chicken splits like re-constituted meat, and the breading just falls away like a floppy old carpet. It was horrible. We think they may be buying in the schnitzel not making it inside. Could be wrong but something has changed! The Cosmopolitan cocktail, another reliable crowd pleaser, has leapt to £15.95. The martini glass it is served in was half-full. Another unpleasant surprise. Finally, a “Cover Charge” of £2.00 per head appeared on our bill, as if the inflated prices was not enough. There was a general rise in prices across the menu. The staff at reception have changed. Being greeted and seated was a simple transaction, without welcome or any interest. We were just another diner to serve before the table could be reset. We will not be back, as The Delaunay has lost its mojo and is just another city restaurant. I’m sorry to see these changes but most important the unacceptable prices rises and cover charge during a cost of living crisis seems to me to be a poorly-decided move. The place was full so perhaps my views are not shared, but they are honest as per my experience. We were intending to go back this weekend, but we have consigned The Delaunay to history now. It’s a place we cannot recommend and we discussed this with our oft-dining friends and they agreed with us.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for a late dinner
Outstanding food, ambiance and service. The place is a gem. Austrian influenced cuisine with a solid wine list and outstanding service to boot. We went on a late dinner ( Sat, after 22.00) and did not feel rushed at all. We will be back.

Not much to say, exquisite food. Wonderful staff. Great ambience. Can't wait to go again. What a lovely birthday treat!
Be the first to ReplyFirst visit and we loved it
This was our 1st visit and we really loved the whole experience. The restaurant itself is very nice, automatically transports you to Vienna.. being said that, the food was very good. We had Steak Tartare and Aged Gruyère and Caramelized Tart, both as starters and they were both VERY good. As main courses we went all the way with sausages so we ordered Veal Bratwurst and Berber Würstel, both we served with potatoe salad, sauerkraut and caramelized onions.. but also very good. For dessert we wanted to order Kaiserschmarrn but we found out it took from 10 to 15 minutes so we decided for something faster and ordered Esterhazy Hazelnut Gateau which was very good.. obviously we knew what we were ordering so better do a research before ordering but everything looked delicious. Then coffee and tea… We loved the whole experience there.. good service but specially the ambiance and good. Will definitely be back
Be the first to ReplySpecial Birthday Celebratory Lunch
Superb private dining Celebratory lunch on Saturday in The Kean Room. Great ambience, lovely food, fabulous service from Nigel and staff - so professional yet friendly. Wonderful time had by all 15 of us. Can't recommend highly enough.
Be the first to ReplyPrivate dining - the Delaunay wow factor!
Very lucky to attend a celebration luncheon at The Delaunay. It was exquisite. The atmosphere is a buzz in the Foyer. An experience from the minute you enter this art deco styled restaurant. A large private room awaits, beautifully laid table adorned with silver and orchids. We enjoy pleasant low lighting…thick carpets enable a low sound room which feels sumptuous . Our Maitre De Nigel us a character and invites us to enjoy a glass of bubbles; will are not only served but entertained. Nigel and the team are swift, and a tentative throughout, sharing his wit and interests in gardening and his knowledge of the highlife available near by for us to make the most of our evening to follow. Our food is divine. From our set menu we enjoy warm bread, smoked salmon, hake or roast lamb... the wine is very complimentary and plentiful. Our food and plates are piping hot, delicious! Vegetables are served separately, mashed potatoes, potato fries and lush greens. The images hardly do justice…it was a fabulous luncheon. Very special, we whisked out of the door knowing we had enjoyed the very best. Can’t wait to return. Thank you Nigel and the team.

Be the first to ReplyUsed to be my go-to
Text: Sadly on the last two occasions, it really let me down. First time, food not good particularly the leathery Wiener Schnitzel. Second time, despite booking over two weeks in advance, we were put on a table that was obviously shoe-horned in - we felt very crowded - and was by a pillar underneath coat hooks with coats hanging on my guests .The asparagus was so hard that I couldn't cut it with an ordinary knife and my efforts to get the waitress's attention were waved away as she was too busy talking to a colleague. I approached the front desk who were quite dismissive although they did provide the requisite steak knife. The food was not the standard I would normally expect and the service was generally poor; my US guests were not impressed. What a shame - I liked to go there regularly but now avoid it. I see I am not alone in this.
Be the first to ReplySo disappointed…arrogance of waitstaff as refreshing as bug spray
Two weeks ago a colleague and I, in London on business, had a delightful meal at The Delaunay. The Manager was so welcoming and invited us to return. So tonight we did so with our family and friends. What a disappointment. Perhaps the waitstaff was arrogant toward us because we wore no jacket…or maybe for another reason. Can’t be for sure. What is for sure is that while the food was serviceable, the service was genuinely horrid. We shall never return and will most certainly tell everyone in our international programme to look elsewhere. What a dreadful shame.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience
I have eaten at the Delaunay on several occasions in the past and I’ve considered it to be one of my favourite restaurants but on a recent visit I was bitterly disappointed . There didn’t seem to be enough staff and we had to wait a long time for drinks to arrive despite several requests . My friend ordered a rare steak which was overcooked , it was sent back but unfortunately by the time a replacement eventually arrived all the other members of the party had finished their main courses . Given the prices being charged I expect a quality service and I left with the feeling that nobody really cared and as a result I won’t be visiting the restaurant again .
Be the first to ReplyNice lunch
Attractive setting and I love the menu. I had kidneys which were very well executed. The accompanying pommes parisiennes weren’t great - little hard bullets, they probably had been made ahead of time and had been sitting around. Good presentation though. The service was ok, a bit lacklustre given they add a 15% charge - you don’t really want too cool for school service - but it was fine overall. I would probably visit again, but I’m not in a hurry to. If there was a ‘good’ rating in between ‘average’ and ‘very good’ I would have gone for that. Good, but could be better.
