The Dixboro Project Ann Arbor Reviews
The day I wrote my initial review, The Dixboro Project's
The day I wrote my initial review, The Dixboro Project's restaurant manager called me to apologize for my wife's and my experience and to invite us back to make it up to us. This was a kind gesture--both the accountability and willingness to get a re-do. I plan to return to The Dixboro Project next time I'm in Ann Arbor, and when I do, I'll be sure to update my review.

I came here for a wedding - so a unique experience! I've only been here during Covid, so I actually got coffee and sat outside in the cold. The entire restaurant was closed for the wedding. They did a great job utilizing the entire space. The ceremony was in the back room. Then transformed into one of the dining rooms and then eventually the dance floor. The area by the bar was open for people to socialize during cocktail hour. Cocktail hour: bartenders were great! There were few select cocktails we could choose from. Dinner was shared family style: - bread: soft and yummy! - Caesar salad: you can't mess up a Caesar salad - steak: this was good - chicken: not dry! - cod: this was good - potatoes: this was good and a lot of people's favorite dish. - carrots: I really liked this and the sauce it came with - apple pie with ice cream: there wasn't enough ice cream for the apple to pie ratio. Too many apple pieces for me! Service was amazing!! There were a lot of servers (probably more than necessary) but they did an amazing job of constantly checking on us (but not in an overbearing way). There were few people who stood out to me but I sadly forgot their names. I think one of the bartenders was Becca (she was blonde)! There were 2 female servers who were lovely as well. One had glasses, maybe Mandy was her name? Thanks Dixboro for a memorable experience and for the best night ever for my friends who got married!!
Would like to clarify up front that this is not a breakfast
Would like to clarify up front that this is not a breakfast place- at least not only. My friend and I recently were here for an early dinner and it was amazing! This restaurant can be a casual meal or drinks on the outside deck or a nice lunch or dinner inside. The ambiance is overall upper scale casual, but definitely heavier on the "upper" part. It's a lovely restaurant with eclectic vibes. Below, I've posted a photo of part of the restaurant. It's very charming. While some of the artwork is modern, the dinner ware is older style. It all blends together well. Upon being seated, we were promptly greeted by a charming server. We began our meal by sharing a beautiful garden salad with tomatoes from the outside garden. The greens were a combination of baby spinach and arugula I believe, with some squares of a mild cheese and those delicious homegrown tomatoes! The dressing was a homemade buttermilk that wasn't overly thick- just right! For dinner, we both opted for the Shrimp Spaghetti Dinner, with dill and a rich creamy sauce. It came with Parmesan cheese on top. It was delicious, with fresh dill and parsley. The shrimp were sliced but could tell they were large shrimp. It was a fabulous dinner, though I'll caution you that it was very rich. While neither of us finished our large portion, we decided not to take home leftovers. It was a delightfully large portion, but honestly too rich for leftovers. I would definitely recommend the Dixboro Project for a very fine meal and ambiance. It could be for a special occasion or just because you want a deliciously special meal!

(We haven't eaten in the restaurant in a while; our foodie friends in Ann Arbor have said that the food has gone downhill.) We stopped towards the end of the day and the display case was almost completely full, which made me a little wary. We got 4 things, and only one of them was a hit. The Cardamom Pistachio Bun was a lovely sweet roll with very little of the 2 namesake items. The Broccoli Cheddar Quiche had an excellent crust, but the filling was way too salty. It went in the trash. The Lemon Blackberry Cupcake was tasty but small and dry. The best thing was the Croissant Bread Pudding. Very good and enough to feed 4-6. The only problem was the sloppiness with how it was handled: the tray was covered with sticky gunk. Not the condition in which it should be given to a customer! For the prices they charge -- $30 for these 4 items -- everything should be flawless and filings generous. Overall, a miss.
Food was good.
Especially liked the shells and cheese. The drinks were good too -- can't remember the name of what I got, but it had the name belle in it
The food has been very good to excellent.
I would not consider most of the dining room food carry out. The pizzas and salads, absolutely yes. Service had always been stellar but our last visit was disappointing. I never got my beer order fulfilled. Had a coke instead. Ambiance is nice. A large dining room setting and an outdoor porch. Both attractive and inviting.
Delicious food! Beautiful restaurant! Wonderful

Hard to know where to begin! I hosted an event in their New Barn, have dined for lunch & dinner & regularly get take out from the bakery. It is simply perfect. And delicious. And...it's like a mini vacay to drive 5 minutes out to Dixboro. A step back in time to visit this quaint town. You can take a deep breath & inhale the clean country air & old world ambience. Just magical.
I was really excited to go here because my friends
I was really excited to go here because my friends universally raved about it. Then I made the mistake of going. My meal was satisfactory but unremarkable. The ambiance was good. I like the farm theme, but it felt commercial. My cocktail felt rushed as if the staff were overwhelmed by management who didn't hire enough people for the workload. The espresso arrived late as my dessert, and it was tepid without any crema. I could taste rancid oil as if the machine had not been cleaned properly. I could get better espresso at a Starbucks. The wait staff didn't check on me, and I had to repeatedly wave just to get the bill. I'll give it 4 Ono's and 1 Schlissel. If you love the Midwest, you'll love this place.

Maybe what the younger people like but not a comfortable place to eat good food. Food is fancy and expensive but if that is what you are looking for you will like it
One of the better spots near A2
One of the better spots to eat in Ann Arbor. Very nice space. Certainly need a car to get to it. Everything is solid, pizza maybe less so. Very clean, nice architectural feel. Probably been 4 or 5 times. Totally safe spot for a higher end family meal or celebration.
Poor experience
Four of us went there for dinner for a special occasion. Three of us ordered the halibut. After a while the waitress circled back to inform us βchefβ is unable to prepare the special rice on time and weβll have to order something else. I asked to substitute the rice with other options. I was told βchefβ never does that. By this time we ended up ordering salads, rather than restarting a whole new order. I also agree with other reviewers β¦a lot of the menu is average/good food at high prices.
Delicious food with gorgeous ambience
One of the best restaurants we've been to. Love the ambience, the food was incredible, very fresh and the best zucchini pizza with horseradish cream. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for delicious meal with a beautiful ambience that isn't too expensive.
Unique place with interesting menu items
The place was busy when we went in the early afternoon so we sat at the bar. The french toast and boro bacon were very good. The spanish coffee was harsh due to the cinnamon and world never order again, but it had a nice presentation.
Dressed up mediocre.
We have eaten here at least 6 times this year. The quality has gone progressively down. The thin crust pizza and spring salad was delicious, but recently, the crust is doughy, the salad was drenched in dressing and the chicken was tough. Entrees are small portions and expensive. Quality is just a notch above average. Staff is very friendly and well trained, but turnover is high. Pastries at the take out section are good, especially the scones.. Chocolate chip cookies aren't. We can only account for the crowds because every thing else in Ann Arbor is so mediocre. I will pay top dollar for consistent quality, but not for unpredictable results. Overall, the attitude is Ann Arbor arrogance based on prices, atmosphere, limited choices (very few healthy ones). The Boro is desperately trying to present itself as fine dining, but it falls short in most of the categories.
A Dessert Ending
A group of friends came to celebrate a birthday party. The food, ambiance, and service were top-notch. We ended the night with a previously ordered chantilly cake, a crowning on an already wonderful evening.
New Favorite.
Really nice vibe. I had worked in the space when it was the Lord Fox in 1985. Cocktails, good. Food quite good. Service also quite good - just the right attention. The aligot potatoes are not to be missed - the smoked pepper was the key there.
Pretentious & Pricey
Tasty food, Overpriced, Expensive drinks, Slow service, Otherwise, nice place to have dinner or lunch.
Excellent π
Fantastic food and wine!! First time visit. Heard great things prior from family. Environmemt is so pretty including fireplace by bar. It is a bit loud and we had a very loud woman at table close to us. We made the best of it. Very nice clean restrooms. Service a little slow but server and other staff were so sweet and attentive to us. We would definitely return to try the pizza!!! Visited for lunch 12.28.
Very Very Disappointed
I took a friend for lunch to The Dixboro Project and was very disappointed. My friend got the tempura vegetables which were heavy, greasy, and pretty much inedible if you didn't want to have a stomach ache. We were expecting light, fluffy, nicely done tempura. Instead, heavy, crusty, oily broccolini sat in a pool of grease on a plate. I got the vegetable sandwich on focaccia. It had a very small amount of greasy vegies on some decently toasted bread. (My cappuccino was great, though.) Our waitress was very attentive and very professional. However, she clearly saw that my friend had not eaten more than one bite of her greasy tempura and only asked if she would like a box! Clearly, something was wrong. (My friend was too polite to say anything.) 'While paying the bill, I told our waitress that while we were happy to pay the bill, we thought she should tell the chef that the food (especially the tempura) was inedible. She just looked at us and said, "Ok. Thanks." It will be a very long time before I go back to The Dixboro Project
