The beau read about this place in the New York Times so we decided to try it out on a date night while visiting London. We just loved it. It's quaint and charming inside with extremely welcoming staff. We went all out and had the pate and bone marrow for our first course and they were rich and delicious. We opted to split the turkey and bacon pie which is my ideal British food and it was savory and comforting on a chilly damp winter eve. We said why not and ordered the sticky toffee pudding with was worth every calorie. Such a lovely evening in a local pub off the beaten track. Highly recommended.

High end. Smart. Hip. Ciders. We saw an actor from Sherlock. Food is unusual from duck heart to partridge. (Skip the latter perhaps).

Versatile spot that would be great for dinner with friends, date night, or just dining alone. Fantastic roasts in particular, with generous portions and fair prices. Love coming here every time I'm in London.

Bar tenders don't know their cocktail mixes and could care less. Indifferent.

Great local pub in Islington with some amazing food which constitutes fine dining restaurant quality. Great wines too. Check out their Sunday roast but make sure you book at any point when it comes to eating, or you will have to wait for a table or be disappointed. They have a garden as well for the Summer.

I have been many times. You can see it's a locals place but people in the know so search this out. It often hosts culinary events from the London food scene but I was lucky to test out the 4th July BBQ in the back garden which was great. They even bought over imported American beers. The roasts are great too. One time the manager showed some real class by comping our whole meal when the kitchen totally forgot our order after we were waiting for what seems 40 mins. He apologised and didn't make a fuss. Good to see service like that.I really love this area. Along the backstreets you will find gems like this pub, and you can see from the outside it is lovely. A perfect Sunday afternoon spot in my opinion.

This is such a nice pub and the only downside is I wished it was closer to my house. Been a few times but the best was this July 4th. They held a American style BBQ. Amazing food, lots of it, all served up in their beer garden at the back. They even put on a special selection of American Beers for the day. I've also been for their Sunday Roast and that's also amazing. Give it a go if you're nearby and you'll want to go back. (Visit - 04/07/2015 Lunch BBQ)
Be the first to ReplySeriously rude staff, awful place.
They were genuinely rude, and absolutely horrendous at taking orders. Your job is to serve customers not stand around in a haze of the high you acquired the night before. Never again.

Good food and good location in a residential area, but the poor service and indifferent staff ruined our evening at Drapers Arms. Our water pitcher was not refilled, nobody asked what we thought about the food, and worse, the waitress didn't even bother to say thank you when we paid (and tipped her!). The wait staff should seriously consider another business - they are clearly not suited to the hospitality industry. This is a pity since this gastropub has potential (as noted by a number of other reviewers below): good food, nice location and warm atmosphere.

At first, £35 for a whole roast chicken with trimmings seemed like incredible value for a Sunday roast in this popular area of Islington.Setting the scene of this dining fiasco, we were seated at a table by the door that one of my dining partners couldn't even get his legs under. Even I struggled as a 5'4" woman. The chicken arrived whole, along with a carving knife that was so dull it would have had a hard time cutting through butter. Our butter knives were even more useless. We resorted to tearing the chicken apart like animals. The burnt roasties that accompanied the chicken took effort to eat, which was ultimately unrewarding. First I gave up trying to cut the roasties with my kiddie knife. Then I gave up trying to chew them whole out of fear for my dental health. All of this, I may have been able to excuse. But when I got the bill and discovered a charge of 20p for two segments of lime in my soda water (which was, incidentally, £1.50 on its own...), I had been pushed too far.To recap my feelings on this pub: The Drapers Arms is filled with disinterested staff and wanky clientele. They charge an unbelievable amount of money for poorly cooked food. And they must have picked their utensils out of a skip.

If you want the charm of a historic English pub, with some modern flourishes like a gourmet/healthy menu, and fresh air seating options, Drapers Arms is a total score! Lots of space inside for a cozy meet-up, or a group dinner. Our group of 8 sat at the hefty communal table, which we called to reserve. Unfortunately, they don't take reservations for the back patio; it's first-come first-served for good reason (so lovely!)The menu was definitely fancy for a pub, and it changes daily for the season. We had both serious carnivores and vegetarians in our group, and everyone found something to love. I got the summery sweet pea & herb soup, and a glass of Picpoul white wine (hard to find, very impressed!) The boys shared a leg of lamb that looked like it could feed an entire family, though they managed to polish it off between 3 of them. Service was also incredibly attentive for 8 people, well done! A perfect place to make jolly pub memories in London -- with the meat & beer bloat being totally optional.
