A very poor experience on a Saturday evening, The Feathered Nest used to be one of the best pubs in the Cotswolds - we have been visiting for over 20 years, under many different owners. On this occasion , the food was poor , the service erratic and the cost well over the top . The welcome was indifferent , and we waited 20 minutes to be offered drinks - this is crazy for them commercially as eventually we went straight into the wine. The bar area was empty with a moderately full main restaurant. We were attracted by the 'plant based menu' but the 2 courses I had , the potato dumpling (£14) and the hispi cabbage (£26) were poor, the cabbage dish was actually awful with over cooked vegetables and vinegary sauce. Not sure how they worked out the pricing as a 4 course plant option was priced at £40 and I only had 2 courses for the same price despite being told I could mix and match. My wife had an overcooked halibut costing £36.and a tuna tartare starter which had to much crisp-bread filling the plate. The wines were good. The serving staff seemed to be working hard , but with no coordination and long waits for everything - perhaps the management needs an upgrade ? We decided to cut our losses and skipped dessert and coffee. Perhaps the place is too big to properly co-ordinate ? We used to get a warm welcome and really top food and were happy to pay a premium price for a premium experience - not at the moment !
