Fabulous French Cuisine (we're we in France ?)
We dined here on Saturday en famille to celebrate a birthday , we were all staying in Ludlow . The food we had was fabulous , the A49 must have taken us to somewhere in France!. The crab starter and mackerel starters were superb .Duck confit with prune memorable. Tart tatin beautiful. Everything else was delicious and tasty I think you need to read this review book a table and visit and eat. The staff were professional and friendly . Thankyou to Lynette for taking our reservation. We shall return as soon as possible .
Be the first to ReplyFirst class meal - delicious!
The French Pantry has a classical French menu - and it doesn’t disappoint. We had delicious French onion soup, confit de canard, sea bass with cockle sauce, and tarte tatin. Each dish was 10/10 for taste, presentation and enjoyability! If we lived close enough we would be regular visitors.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous quality food - a delight
On our first visit we were so impressed we returned 2 days later. This visit was delightful again, the food is so beautifully cooked, flavours and textures finely balanced and portion sizes generous. The chef owner really knows his stuff, quality of the dishes compares favourably with Michelin starred and much more expensive places we've eaten. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, quietly good service. Wish we lived nearer so we could visit every week, it is a real gem.
Be the first to ReplySuperb!!
We visited one night in February and it did not disappoint. The food was superb and could not be faulted. The young man and girl at the front of the house were excellent in waiting on. A must visit restaurant if you are in Ludlow but book a table in advance.
Be the first to ReplyLOVED IT
We booked by email while the hosts were on holiday but it worked well. The night was very cold but once inside it was really warm and cosy with a lovely friendly atmosphere. The food was everything that I had hoped for. Crab mouse rich and creamy. All very French, hot and tasty.
Be the first to ReplyA delightful find
I popped in hear solo on the basis that a food app on my phone suggested it. A lovely space, friendly staff and what came out of the kitchen was very good. I started with the Onion soup, delicious but the bowl it came in was a little annoying and it was difficult to eat without spilling. I had a delicious sea bass with a reduction of mixed shell fish on a risotto type bed. I didn't have a chance to look at the wine list properly but I loved the experience. Only one recommendation - espresso cups really need to be piping hot or the coffee cools too quickly, please heat them. Really great effort generally however.

Wanted to try this restaurant whilst in Ludlow and do glad we did. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the staff are tentative too. So to the food, well what can i say. Delicious plentiful and vooked to perfection. Thank you so much for such a lovely evening.
Be the first to ReplyIncorrect date booked
Booked us for the wrong date so can’t rate the food! We rang beginning of November to book for NYE. It’s dog friendly but we wanted to be sure it would be ok being a busy night! He went away to check and booked us in for 1830 told us it was a set menu and would that be ok? We agreed. 30th Dec we get a call asking if we were still coming (that night) tried to tell us we’d booked for the 30th checked what menu they were serving and it was normal menu, so why tell us it’s a set menu if we’ve booked the wrong day. He did go away to see if they could fit us in as booked 31 Dec but couldn’t. We were only in Ludlow for 3 nights so most definitely not our error, we all make mistakes but for one of the busiest nights of the year they ruined ours! Trying to book elsewhere the day before not a chance!!!
Be the first to Replyexcellent - definitely recommend
Dined recently at this lovely restaurant with friends. Very efficient and professional service, a varied tempting menu and superb food. All 4 of us experienced fine dining and left thoroughly pleased. each dish was attractive and of notable quality, with ample sharing demonstrating the wide selection! would definitely return
Be the first to ReplyUn vrai bijou...
We had been very excited for our visit to Ludlow but more so our return to this french treat! Friendly attentive staff, the change of decor and characterful music was a delight and gave for a superb ambience! As for the food, my flavoursome lamb broth starter was divine! Duck breast was cooked beautifully and the truffle sauce to die for! My wife had a pear starter and the fish stew for her main course which was equally as delicious! no room for puds unfortunately but the wine list certainly delivered. My only complaint would be it being rather chilly, maybe the choice of table by the door wasn't in our favour! however it still exceeded our expectations and we will be returning! Perhaps in the summer months.

Be the first to ReplyFantastic food, service and ambience. Strongly recommend.
Wonderful meal with friends tonight. Food was perfect especially the seabass, moules and cod cheeks for starters. Helpful and friendly staff and all very reasonably priced. A most enjoyable evening and I'd recommend a visit. Maqnifique.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous food and very relaxing
Loved the Crab & Beurre Blanc, would eat that and over & over, cod cheeks were tasty, moules & frites… yes please.. and buttery risotto with sea bass ( I am not doing the menu justice with my succinct description) but we really enjoyed our French lunch washed down with a glass of white . Highly recommend The French Pantry

We’ve been before and both visits did not disappoint. Staff very friendly. Food unbelievable, as were the portion sizes. We will definitely return and you highly recommend a visit.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Impressed by its reputation, we were really looking forward to lunch at The French Pantry but our experience was, to say the least, disappointing. The food was as underwhelming as was the greeting. Expressing our disappointment in a gentle manner to the front of house manager did result in her consulting the chef. The response was equally disappointing! We sensed a take it or leave it attitude so we paid up (in full) and left, probably and sadly, never to return. We’ve spared you the details, but suffice to say we can’t recommend the Coq Au Vin nor the Pork ‘’A La Normande’’ nor indeed the side order of seasonal veg (which were not seasonal!). The French fries were ok!!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent yet again.
Back again, this time with friends and again not disappointed. My friends think I’m a genius for finding great places to eat actually it was a fluke finding it in the first place! I would find it hard to accurately describe their style of food other than to say it’s French because it’s a bit eclectic. The Gateau of Crab with Saffron Beurre Blanc is Haute Cuisine, yet the mains are akin to back street Parisian student bistro, substantial, filling, very hot, very rustic and quite delicious. The Lemon and Lime Posset with Red Cherry Compote and Lemon Meringue could easily have come straight from Restaurant Paul Bocuse in Lyon! It was the only dessert we were fit for and even then, we shared it. Olivier Bossut the chef and owner with his wife Lynette has honed his skills over his 42 years of being a chef and Lynette is the perfect front-of-house foil with her friendly, relaxed, yet highly efficient approach. Be warned though because if you don’t book the chances are you will go hungry!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely fantastic foood!
Came here to treat my dad for Father’s Day. Absolutely great 3 courses - the flavours were fantastic, the portions were good size and very authentic french cuisine done well! I loved it and we will definitely be back - very impressive!

Been to The French Pantry a few times now, food is excellent, relaxed atmosphere, one of our favourite places to eat in Ludlow. Would highly recommend, best to book.
Be the first to ReplyAn unforgettable lunch
Came here with some good friends, whilst staying in the area. We thought the heydays of culinary artistry in Ludlow were long past (and we had missed them), bit it appears that all is alive and well, at least in this restaurant. There is a very French appeal to the place, which reminded 2 of us of the sad loss of such times thanks to the great plague. For a brief few hours (3 or so) we were transported into France and their passion for food (and wine). Splendid service from the 2 young ladies added to our overall enjoyment. Star of the show, for me, as the taste tatin. A classic dish with the added benefit of using large slices of apple to allow more caramel, sitting atop a perfect pasty crust. Excellent wine list (the none too shabby Pouilly Fume and Sauternes were very good). Despite the strong sunshine the 2 mile walk back to our LMT property was almost enjoyable.

Quite simply the best meal we had in Ludlow.
Recommended by a friend not sure what to expect.
Once inside a little gem. Gingham tablecloths - just
Like a village cafe in France.
Wonderful cooking - superb fish .Nice choices and good
wines to accompany. We didn’t mean to but couldn’t resist
The Deserts. Essential to book as small (but perfectly formed).
Service friendly and efficient. Lovely evening.
Beautiful food in simple surroundings
Went to the French Pantry after looking at a Japanese restaurant and finding that the choice we’d known at its other branch in London wasn’t there. Searched again and this place came up.
Booked on Saturday 26th March for the 12pm sitting. The restaurant had just opened and we booked to avoid disappointment and to guarantee a table of our choice. We needn’t have worried. We were the first inside once it’s opened.
Our choices were 2 courses worth but no wine as we were driving home. I had a salmon and brie strudel with garlic sautéed potatoes. It was supposed to be a starter, but instead was a substantial meal in itself. The combination of smoked salmon with Brie was beautiful and also garnished with capers which added a slightly sweet touch. Presentation was second to none. The dish was a work of art. My husband had the cassoulet. He loved it. He hasn’t had such good cassoulet since a trip to France many years ago and he’s missed it. The dish was v substantial and again, served beautifully.
Our next course was a desert. My husband had a lovely brioche and beurre pudding. He loved it. I had a line and lemon posset with berry compote and Meringue all in a glass. It was perfect. The posset was creamy and light.
Couldn’t fault the meal at all. We will be back but the next time, we shall stay overnight somewhere and have a drink. Wine and champagne choices were extensive. I can’t wait.
The French Pantry is back on form and fabulous again!
Wonderful, wonderful lunch! I wanted to write this after the French Pantry suffered a dodgy couple of years at the hands of the dreadful previous owners but now it is back and absolutely amazing! The food is just fantastic, the staff are lovely and the ambience superb - so lovely to be able to go there again.
Be the first to ReplyLovely lovely lunch!
We had lunch here today meeting up
with some good friends. What a lovely place. Interesting menu with a good choice and reasonably priced given the quality of the cooking.
The crab starter was was delicious interesting without being odd and the smoked eel smelt amazing. The confit of duck was excellent as was the sea bass and duck breast. The brownie and bread and butter pudding were very good indeed. Very competent cooking with excellent service in a very nice environment - what more could you ask for!
Wonderful birthday lunch
What a delightful place! Superb food: smoked eel sea bass and brioche and basil butter pudding for me; French onion soup, Normandy pork and tarte tatin for my husband. All amazing and excellent laid back service. A real treat.
