Our favorite bite!
We had a fabulous meal here! We started with the local lettuce salad (large enough to share) with a delicious buttermilk vinaigrette. Wonderful! We each chose pasta—the braised short rib with gnocchi and the strozzapreti. The short rib was melt in your mouth tender and the gnocchi delicious. The sausage and fennel ragout over homemade pasta was exceptional! We finished with delicious homemade gelato! Our best bite(s) in Charleston!

You know how sometimes a highly hyped restaurant fails to live up to the reputation and you walk away wondering if it was not that great or maybe you had over imagined the experience? Well, not so at “OD” as they call it! What a wonderful experience! Great service and exceptional food! Gracious! We tried it out with a highly successful restauranteur friend and he was blown away too. Our server was so patient as we surfed several menu items. The Frogmore Stew was the best ever enjoyed. Each pizza was exceptional. The braised beef gnocchi was sublime. Oh, and fresh fresh oysters. Loved it all - ambiance, service, drinks, food. Totally worth trying to get in. Well done team!!

Amazing food atmosphere and drinks!!! A 10 out of 10!!! You need to make a reservation weeks in advance unless you get lucky and can be a walk in… that wait is usually about an hour! Cute ice cream shop attached which is perfect for dessert!

The restaurant service was terrific - our reservation was for 7:00 and we were seated immediately. We never felt rushed. We had comfortable seats in a booth - all very nice environment.
Be the first to ReplyGreat shared dinner.
Managed to get a last minute reservation. Love the atmosphere but just slightly little loud and crowded. Service was excellent. Our server Melanie suggested sharing items and that’s what we decided to do. We started with the Brussel sprouts and they were really good and I’m not a huge fan of them normally. There was plenty for 3 people to share. Then we shared a Rutledge pizza has just a tad of a kick with red pepper flakes then we finished by sharing the sausage and fennel pasta which was excellent. Great way to get a taste of several items. We followed dinner by getting gelato downstairs. Highly recommend and share…

Pricey. Busy. Small. Foodie heaven. Had sausage pizza and local beer. Was good. Recommended by Charleston locals. Quaint part of town.

O/D comes with high expectations. Reservations are scarce as hen’s teeth - even midweek in offseason. The noise level makes it hard to have a conversation, so not a good choice for a first date. But the service is efficient and friendly. Pasta is made in-house. Portions are generous. Prices are reasonable. (Extravagant wines are available for big spenders looking to impress.) Food arrives fast, but there was no pressure to rush through our meal. Attracts a somewhat better-dressed (at dinner anyway) and younger crowd. Everyone seemed happy to be there. Not sure it’s worth a special trip from Charleston, but definitely the place to visit while on Sullivan’s Island.

We had a great meal at Obstinate Daughter on Sullivan's Island. Great food along with friendly and attentive service. These guys dont have to try to be hip...they are hip. Highly recommend the OD.
Be the first to ReplyEarly Pizza Dinner
We arrived for an early dinner. We began with Brussels sprouts. This was my absolute favorite dish. The flavor and crisp on each Brussel was perfect. The accompaniments served with the dish gave it a unique twist and made the dish even better. For dinner, I got The Old Danger pizza for dinner. The presentation was very cool with the whole egg served on top. The pizza was good but thought it could’ve used more flavor. I also tried the short rib gnocchi which was really good. Overall, all the dishes were very good to excellent, but the restaurant was very loud and music sometimes made it hard to hear people at the table.

My wife, daughter and I recently had Brunch at Obstinate Daughter. We live local but had never been, so we were anxious to go. Both my wife and daughter had the Daily Quiche and really liked it. I am not a quiche guy but thought it was very good. I had the sausage grits bowl and ate all of it. We had the pecan bourbon creme brulee and spiced cake for dessert and polished it off easily. I wish the parking was a little better but it didn't outshine the restaurant and service.

This is a go to for brunch in IOP/Charleston area for good reason. Wonderful food and an eclectic drink menu. There's something for everyone on the menu. Thought the food was very good.

Hanging out in Charleston and saw a review of the Obstinate Daughter…best decision ever! The food was amazing…meatball sandwich and Frogmore chowder made a delicious and filling late lunch. Frank guided us through the menu and recommended wine…he is the best! Highly recommend this fabulous restaurant!

Delectable from Beginning to End! Came all the way from Florida to eat again and boy was I glad! We began our meal with a salad and the combination and flavors were so fresh and tasty. We also had the polenta fries which we had none left after 5 minutes. We had the most delicious pizza, the green tomatoes and the crisp crust made this simple staple even more delicious. But my daughter went crazy for the gnocchi with short rib. The combination of the flavors, it’s unique Ragu made this our new favorite. We finished off with the apple cake which was easy and when we left we were in a happy food coma. Can’t wait to go back.

When researching where to eat in (or around) Charleston this was so highly recommended. Everyone we told we were going there was so impressed we got a reservation. Literally we were so underwhelmed. Drive 25 mins from downtown and there is only pizza and 4 pasta dishes to choose from (not including appetizers). The food was not bad, but it was NOT worthy of the time and effort. I believe the reputation has been built up to precede it, and it just frankly falls short. I would 100% save the Uber fare next time and stay In Charleston proper at one of the countless top notch restaurants there are to choose from there. And trust me there are plenty.

We've visited the OD multiple times and have have great experiences every time. Reservations are strongly suggested or you may wait a long time and you may get frustrated and give up. We have, on occasion "popped in" and were seated in a reasonable timeframe. The cocktails are great, menu items are well thought-out and interesting and like the title of my review, consistently delicious. There is limited space so larger groups may be challenged to accommodate a larger party. When visiting IOP be sure to visit the OD.

Wow, what a fantastic meal reccomended to us from friends. The space is fun and comfortable and the staff is very accomodating. Our party included gluten free needs and they easily accomodated our requests. Definately a place we'll return to.

Lady at the airport told us about the place as we were leaving from up north. Upstairs cool bar and great food with fresh, clean ingredients. Very busy place.

We had dinner there based on the recommendations of Trip Advisor as one of the top restaurants in the Charleston area. The food was delicious. Server was very attentive, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is upbeat but not too loud. Highly recommend it.

My husband and I visited this restaurant for lunch. Yes, you need a reservation. It is a highly frequented restaurant and for good reason. Stafford was our server. He was great. We started with a specialty cocktail, the William Moultrie. We selected peel and eat shrimp and the homemade gnocchi. Both were excellent. The gnocchi with the short rib was good to share. Stafford made our experience special with his attentive service.

We were not disappointed. Small place so definitely recommend reservations. Our server Lauren was excellent! Food was wonderful. Roasted Beet appetizer and Farro Piccolo were great appetizers that we shared. Main dishes were excellent.
Be the first to ReplyNice Late breakfast.
This was a Saturday stop at their opening time of 10AM. There was already a line - not too long. There are a few outside tables, and three sections of indoor tables, plus bar seats. Nicely decorated. I normally never order bloodies as mine are really tasty, but my wife ordered one spicy, and it did not disappoint. Really good. I had black coffee, solid. My quiche and arugula salad were light, fresh and tasty. Stef's breakfast sandwich was also good, and a bit messy. Messy good. Service was quick, polite, and professional. Our brunch was $54, a bit pricy I thought. Parking, I can see, could be difficult during the busy season. We really enjoyed the stop. Most of the wines on the menu were southern Italian.

Martinis served without garnish, which had to be requested. Busy place with heat for outdoor tables . Excellent brussels sprouts. Fish of the day was halibut which was so so (maybe frozen from Alaska since this was March?).
