This is the worst Xmas lunch I have ever endured, with service for 4 courses taking nearly 4 hours, sub-standard food as well as the establishment thinking they can charge £150 per person. We arrived just after 12 and were sat in a room that ultimately would contain around 34 persons. Not too much of a challenge one might think but trust me our expectations were about to be dashed. Bringing out the bread for the table (with a couple of very nice vol-au-vents) took around 15 minutes. And then we waited for our starters, and waited. Whilst the starters were to an acceptable standard (albeit the parfait was undersalted) then the long wait began. It was not just us but the whole room. Eventually the main course arrived at around 2.45. Now I do not mind taking a long lunch but this was ridiculous. However, having flown half way around the world for a traditional Xmas lunch whilst in UK the quality of the food was worse than one can do at home. The turkey was not even carved from the bird, it was one of those roll things that is bought in supermarkets and had obviously been frozen as it was soo dry. Likewise the stuffing. The gravy was thin and watery and obviously not made with the cooking juice run-off. The roast potatoes were over par-boiled and under roasted. The Brussels had not been sliced at the base and as such the stems were underdone. I even had to ask the waiter for cranberry sauce (twice, so I ended up with 2 portions). The only redeeming feature was the quantity but the dryness of it all almost caused me to gag. We were not the only customers to suffer as we could see. One table walked out early after an exchange of words and myself and 2 others were resolved not to pay in full. We were given 50% discount although for another table they had the temerity to try to charge service on top. It was in fact a total catastrophe. That is even before I get onto the appalling service. There were 4 front of house but there were 2 guys who I will call ‘Laurel and Hardy’ who had obviously never done this before. When the coffee came and my wife asked for sugar I had to go to the servers to get him to bring….. and then did not even think to offer a teaspoon. When I asked them to remove a 4 foot cobweb hanging from the upper wall light they looked at me as if they did not know what I was talking about. My wife initially thought it was decoration but it was one of those days old cobwebs that had strung itself together and was wafting around in the breeze. After having tried to hurry along the deserts and coffee it was almost 4 hours before we left. This is honestly the worst Xmas dinner I have experienced in my life and they had the temerity to wish to charge £150 per head. I can cook better myself at home and am writing this from a Travelodge in Dagenham and the Xmas lunch much I have just seen being carried past looked infinitely better and is probably a fraction of the price. Do not go here
