Popped into the new Bubbly Hall in New Albany this weekend
Popped into the new Bubbly Hall in New Albany this weekend and it was great to be able to try different places. They vibe inside is high energy, lively, and I would equate to a grown up, elevated mall food court with alcohol. I have a soft spot for BBQ and my previous favorite Route 62 BBQ is sadly permanently closed so I've been in search of a new fave. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich with a side of classic comfort Mac n cheese. The lovely girl at the counter was super sweet, accommodating and patient to explain the list menu options and sauce. The pulled chicken was amazing with a perfect bun and incredible sweet heat sauce. The sandwich in itself was definitely more than enough food alone. Sadly I was less than impressed with the Mac n cheese. It certainly wasn't bad, I would still say it's good although I prefer a creamy Mac whereas this is a drier, stretchy baked style. I will definitely return to try the brisket!

....when they're open. The business hours listed NEVER match w/ actual hours of operation even in the middle of the day. I will say the food is great, it's just not something you can actually look forward to or plan to have for lunch or dinner (so have a back up) b/c of how unreliable business hours are. We kept trying to go back but this place is literally never open. Guess we got lucky the first time.

Only ordered the mac 'n cheese and fries at Budd Dairy, but they were outstanding. The mac may be the best I've ever had. Hope to eat there again soon.

I tried Pit BBQ Grille at Budd Dairy and it was rather expensive BUT the portion was quite generous in my opinion. I think 4/5 stars is fair. It's pretty good but nothing mind blowing. I'm not sure I'd eat there again. City BBQ is just as good.

We enjoy trying out restaurants during Restaurant Week, and this time we decided to go with the Pit BBQ Grille. They had a great offer featuring three smoked meats of your choice, two sides, and a large piece of cornbread! We opted for brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken (the other meat choice was fried wings) and, for the sides, the mac & cheese and baked beans (they also offer slaw, greens, and candied yams). The food was very good! Generous portion sizes. All of the meats were tender and tasted great. The baked beans were very nice - a little sweet. The mac & cheese vanished first, however - we could definitely see why it is award winning! We'll be by again in the future!

Pulled chicken, Mac, collards, yams and Sweetie Pies desserts - EVERYTHING was great - like my mamas cooking! My only recommendation would be to package the chicken and greens in a leak proof container or put larger orders in a box because the juice spilled with everything in a bag. Sweetie pies deserves their own review because the nana pudding and option to mix and match cupcakes were the perfect ending to our meal! Great COLLABO! I tried the strawberry lemonade and vanilla confetti - yum!
Be the first to ReplyThe best BBQ my mother in law and I have ever had.
Her husband is a great cook, especially loves Southern cooking, and I hated to admit that the collard greens were the best I'd ever had and she agreed without hesitation! They were so so tender and flavorful. The Mac and cheese was a classic baked Mac n cheese with that fantastic crispy but soft, Gooey cheesy top layer. The smoked chicken was phenomenal- so juicy! And their version of coleslaw, made with cold, fresh kale. We loved EVERYTHING.

Giving them a 4 out of 5 because they either don't carry ribs like the Parsons location or they ran out on the day we went. Unfortunately, since the Parsons location is closed we had to venture out to Clintonville to get my wife's favorite rib tips, only to find out that they don't have ribs. I ordered a Polish Boy and a side of mac. The Polish Boy is the most amazing sausage I have ever had. The slaw that they use is made by angels! The mac and cheese was better than the Parsons mac and cheese. The customer service was good and the lady who runs the bakery inside The Pit talked me into buying a rice crispy treat. I've always been a fan of homemade rice crispy treats but this one had a melted layer at the bottom that threw me off. I let my wife try it and she had a foodgasm, she didn't mind the layer on the bottom.Polish Boy 1-5=5.Mac and Cheese 1-5=5.Rice Crispy Treat 1-5=2.

We have been excited about trying The Pit BBQ Grille for months and finally made it over there for take-out this afternoon. ย We got there around 6:30 pm on a Saturday and they were sold out of ribs, which is fine but if someone is reading this and wants ribs I'd plan ahead. ย We are a family of three and ordered the sample plate. ย Our three types of meat were brisket, chicken, and pulled pork. ย The sample plate also comes with two sides, we choose the mac & cheese, baked beans and ordered another side; the vinaigrette kale slaw. ย The meal also came with cornbread. ย The meal was good but not something I'd anticipate craving. ย Clintonville has some great BBQ down the street and this meal our kid loved. ย Meaning, for us, it lacked flavor. ย Very safe BBQ, both of the adults put sauce on the meat, which isn't always a good thing. ย Now, the meat was moist and soft so if that is what you are looking for you will enjoy it. ย Again, it was good, just not blowing my mind. ย It was missing the bark or the harder pieces with exploding flavor for us. ย I'll also share it was super odd that when you are in the shop it doesn't smell like smoked meats. ย Could have been us.As for the sides. ย The slaw is great, different but yummy. ย I did not have the mac and cheese but the others enjoyed it. ย The beans, our family would not order again. ย Very, very sweet. ย Like a dessert. ย The cornbread was bland. ย I thought it had a cake base and my partner/husband thought it didn't have enough cornmeal or corn in it. ย Our kid loved it. ย I think it depends on how you grew up having cornbread. ย Would we go back? ย Perhaps to try the burnt ends and other sides. ย Good location! ย Nice staff. ย Parking can get busy at dinner time and not really a dine-in location (especially in a pandemic). ย Very quick for take-out!

Ordered restaurant week special. Best brisket I've had in a long time, moist corn bread, and killer collards. I can't understand the negative reviews--very tasty! Will be back.
Be the first to ReplyI ordered on doordash from the Clintonville location.
I was expecting way better macaroni and on door dash to order single wings it doesn't specify grilled or fried but I assumed it would be grilled. They are fried and I don't care for battered fried wings also it's not option to have sauce on the wings or on the side, it just automatically comes with sauce. I'll just go in to order next time so I know exactly what I'm getting.

First time at The Pit and the staff were super friendly and even gave me a 10% off for the holidays. For the lack of BBQ places I know in Columbus , this will definitely be the one that I revisit!

Perhaps we chose an off night, but the food was underwhelming to say the least. ย I don't know if they gave us the last scoop of macaroni, but it was dry and unappealing. ย I had the pulled pork sandwich; my husband had the brisket. ย There are better options elsewhere. ย Finally, the cornbread was dry. That may have been the most disappointing part for me.
Be the first to ReplyFinally tried The Pit after wanting to do so for some time.
I was warmly welcomed and tried a Pit Bowl on recommendation: a half bun topped with brisket and sauce, with sides of slaw and mac and cheese. Overall, it was very good and well seasoned. The generous portion of brisket was tender with a light smoke and the sauce had a nice tart bite to it. I wish there was more! The sides are not afterthoughts. The mac and cheese is very good (much better than Hot Chicken Takeover) and the kale slaw was a pleasant surprise with a great balance of sweet and tart. And everything was perfectly salted. The bun isn't really necessary but adds a nice sweetness. The Pit is a solid addition to the neighborhood. And consider getting your sides there when picking up some fried chicken next door.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the worst bbq meals I've ever had.
Got the sampler with brisket, pulled pork, and rib tips. Brisket was more like a pot roast and had no real bbq taste. Pulled pork tasted bland. The French fries were soggy and disgusting. Mac and cheese was mediocre. Wouldn't recommend this place at all.

Nice ride to Clintonville and nice area where the restaurant is located. Parking is in back. We had the combo Jazz Rib Fest trio of pulled pork, rib tips and brisket with cornbread and (famous + award winning) mac n cheese and baked beans. Enough for lunch and dinner. Also got the pulled chicken on brioche half bun with mac n cheese with a side kale salad. Best side kale salad I have ever had. The food was really really good!! They forgot the sides of sauces but we had some at home we used. But the meats really didn't need a sauce-they were that good. Next time we go, and we will, we will try the Parsons Avenue spot.

I have been waiting to The Pit BBQ Grille when it was at Northern Lights Shopping Center, but very happy to they are in Clintonville. They are owned by 4 graduates of The Ohio State University, and two of them played football for the Buckeyes are Bryant Browning and former Raider Chimdi Chekwa. I had "The Pit Bowl" with Beef Brisket with Mac and Cheese and Pit Slaw with Kale that has a "Twist" in it. The Brisket was excellent, the BBQ sauce had great bite in the sauce, decadent Mildred's award winning Mac and Cheese, and Pit Slaw with Kale was delicious despite I thought I would not like it. I loved the Pit Slaw with Kale and Broccoli. I will get again The Pit Bowl with Brisket with the Mac and Cheese and Pit Slaw with Kale and Broccoli. I look forward to trying the Ribs, Rib Tips, Pulled Pork, Beef Polish Sausage, and Wings; with trying different sides like Cornbread, Carmen's Candid Yams, and Cece's Greens. I will come back to The Pit BBQ Grille again soon.

I visited the Clintonville location this past weekend and I was pretty impressed with the food. I did a take out order on their website and I always appreciate restaurants that have easy to understand online ordering. I ordered their brisket sandwich with fries and macaroni and cheese. I have to say that now restaurant has come close to my mom's but theirs is pretty close! The fries were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Any place that has fresh cut fries will always have my heart. My only complaint was the sandwich. The bun was amazing but some pieces of the brisket were just a bit dry and I wish the sandwich came with the bbq sauce on the side. They put sauce on the sandwich but I think it could have used just tiny bit more. Speaking of the sauce it was very good! So I'll return and try more things on their menu.
