Excellent dog friendly pub
The food and service is excellent. One of the best roast dinners in the area. The venue is beautiful and the setting is lovely. Dog friendly too!

Just returned from a night away at this beautiful pub. The rooms are outstanding with breakfast served in your your own sitting room which is situated above the bedroom. The food was amazing, the staff are delightful and very knowledgeable.
Be the first to ReplyOne of Kentโs little gemโs
Firstly, the hospitality on arrival was out standing. We were greeted by Marianne, who felt like someone weโd known for years, she was warm and welcoming. She was so lovely and could not do enough for us. The pub is so cozy with its old beams and burning fire, it was perfect to just relax. The rooms here are far from average, they are gorgeous. Itโs a Lovely barn feel, yes they even have a barn front door that you can open just the top half, to over look the beautiful countryside. Thereโs also stairs leading up to a cosy living room , fitted with Tv, sofa, table and chairs. It was absolutely spotless and clean. Thereโs some really lovely well thought ideas , like the torch so you can see the path on the way back from the pub. Also the umbrella incase it rains. The food here was absolutely amazing, the chef Richard was even kind enough to come and chat to us about the food and the pub. Breakfast is also delicious, donโt be alarmed by the mention of a breakfast hamper delivered to your door. Itโs more a room service delivery, thatโs set up for you by the lovely Marianne at your little dining table. Hot food, coffee, pure orange the works. We really could not find fault, every thing was just so nice, and we are already planning another stay.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a lovely find!
We had wanted to try The Plough, Stalisfield for a while but had never ventured over that way. We happened to be passing and popped in for lunch. We did not regret our decision. The service and food were both superb, certainly the best meal we had eaten in quite a while (and we eat out regularly). In our opinion, this lovely inn rivals and surpasses the very best restaurants in the local area and despite being a good 25 minute drive from home we will return. Thank you for a fantastic meal and super hospitality.
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant Sunday Lunch
Visited for the first time ever for Sunday lunch. We hadnโt booked but staff were so helpful and found a table for two available for a couple of hours. What luck! Lunch was excellent! The quality of the food was the best weโve found in the whole area. (Except for a restaurant we love that is a notch above). Roast beef was rare and tender. Vegetable medley excellent. Highly unusual dessert surprisingly delicious. Lol. Homemade burger just delicious. We hope the quality is consistently excellent. Really looking forward to going back frequently.
Be the first to ReplyLovely night away from it all...
We arrived around midday, checked in to our room then straight in the pub for an ale and some lovely lite bites. Pub is lovely as all the photos show, great history and charm. Off for 6km walk around Stalisfield and local woods in the Kent downs - peaceful and scenic and perfect to switch off and just enjoy the scenery. Back to the pub, we sat in the snug by the second fireplace, lovely with another ale. We stayed in Snuckles, beautifully finished room with lovely, subtle touches - these really are lovely little terrace/cottage style accommodation. Dinner in the pub - food was fantastic. Huge choice for both food and drink and the service was really personable. Breakfast to the room was setup and a really nice touch for a couple to sit in their mezzanine with a nice coffee and fresh fruit or hot croissants. Really enjoyed our stay, would highly recommend for a romantic weekend away or just those in need of a lovely little relaxing getaway, long walk and a nice pint. Lovely.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Overnight stay
We stayed overnight in the Stuckles cottage. The accommodation was great and the evening meal in the pub was excellent. Breakfast was served via hamper to our room and was still piping hot. Thoroughly recommend this place, conveniently less than 30 minutes from Eurotunnel Folkestone..

Am so impressed that after a disappointing meal/experience that the owner rang up and was very sad for the experience. Apparently we should not have been charged for extra gravy and should have got more than one piece of lamb. Apologies for cold crumble/custard. We are of the mind that this was not the norm and would try it out again in the future
Be the first to ReplyCosy atmosphere, lovely staff, small portions, expensive for sizes, lots of extras to pay
To be fair the staff were lovely. Party of four, two of which had Sunday lamb roast. It was extra 50p for Yorkshire pudding, asked for extra gravy and charged ยฃ1.00. There was just one very thin slice of lamb. I constructively mentioned that the portion was too small for a man. (I had a starter so was just about adequate). The crumble was cold so was the custard. The staff kindly deducted this charge. The latte coffees were beige coloured and REQUIRED an extra shot. Not charged for but told to ask for extra shot next time (at a cost). In essence the main roast prices at are at upper end and the meat portions need increased. The potatoes and Yorkies not as good as home cooked. Disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful stay over
Myself and my husband stayed over and also used the restaurant in the evening. After a hectic Christmas with the family we needed a restful peaceful day and night away and we couldnโt have picked a more perfect place to stay. We were greeted by josie who made us feel so welcome and showed us around. When we came to the restaurant for our pre food drinks we were welcomed by Marie Anne and Richard the owners. How lovely they are , we had a good chat and a laugh and again so relaxed. The restaurant had the perfect atmosphere we were in need of. Cosy and by the warm fire. Gorgeous food to choose from and we just had such a lovely chilled out time. The room was absolutely stunning!!! Best we have stayed in for a long time. So tastefully done and it felt like our own little home rather than a hotel room. One of my favourite places I have stayed for a long while and we will definitely be returning in the spring when we can enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Oh and by the way I donโt often do reviews but this is one to shout about. Thank you to all your staff and the lovely waitress we had so sweet and funny but I donโt know her name.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic stay and meal
We had a fantastic stay here. Beautiful location, our room was lovely and we had an excellent meal. The team were so friendly and welcoming and when they discovered it was my daughter's Birthday they put a candle in her desert and sang Happy Birthday and even gave her a card. It made her evening!

What a find. Food and service were exemplary. We had roasts and the gammon, egg and chips (apparently the best heโs ever eaten!). Table 10 in the inglenook was perfect - just watch your head when you stand up!!! We will be back โฆ.
Be the first to ReplyOur food was outstanding.
Polite and kind staff our food was tasty yummy and have since recommended many family members to go take a visit here
Be the first to ReplyIncredible!
We visited The Plough during the Easter holidays for lunch on a Saturday - we hadnโt planned where to go and booked last minute so did not know what to expect.
First impressions from the outside were good - the building is beautiful and the atmosphere inside is cosy and traditional - we sat inside the old inglnook fireplace which we loved!
The food was outstanding - the specials menu is diverse and there were several options we could have gone for. The beetroot and apple pancake on the starters and the rhubarb frangipane dessert were particularly good.
Service was fantastic - the owner took the time to come and check on us several times and engage in conversation, the chef bought the food out to us and personally explained what we were having.
Overall one of the best pubs we have both ever been to and we will without a doubt be back!
Wonderful stay
A very relaxing stay with lovely views from our bedroom. Very friendly atmosphere with attentive staff. Lovely food, great menu and wine list. All very fresh.
Breakfast was served in bed. Wonderful croissants and pain au chocolat. Scrambled eggs cooked perfectly.
Can highly recommend.
Simply delicious
The Plough Inn has always been one of our favourite pubs, not least because of its atmosphere & setting, and this visit was no exception. The staff who looked after us were unfamiliar to us on this occasion but as friendly and helpful as ever with the chef coming out to greet us and to explain some of the more unusual items on the menu & there are quite a few. Among them was brill, a fish rarely encountered in a pub. Two of our party of three had this & both agreed it was perfectly cooked and presented in a saffron veloutรฉ that was to die for. We ordered mashed potatoes and broccoli spears on the side but really these weren't necessary. The dish was more than adequate on its own. The third in our party had the battered haddock & chips. The fish looked enormous but was confirmed light & fluffy and, once again, cooked to perfection. My brother & I could testify that the chips were perfect, crunchy outside, light & fluffy inside, just as chips should be. For dessert, we all chose the vanilla cheesecake with rhubarb which was worthy of the Great British Menu. My photo really doesnโt do it justice.
Only one negative, the day turned out to be colder than expected so the usual log fire would have been welcome. A word to the wise: the food is all cooked to order so have a little patience. You'll be well rewarded.
Great food, great welcome, lovely pub
Had a fantastic Sunday roast at The Plough. The lovely Sharon and team kept the kitchen open for us as we'd been delayed on our journey (and kindly didn't rush us in any way) and it was well worth it. A superb menu of roast meats, but also plenty for the veggies and kids. My wife and I had roast beef and lamb respectively - both were cooked to perfection, with fresh crispy roasties, al dente veg and a pickled red cabbage (which I personally love with a red meat roast). The lamb sweetbreads and baked camembert starters were delish, as was the (clearly chef made) burger for my daughter. A great roast is something that, sadly, not every establishment gets right - but I can hand on heart say The Plough certainly do! We shall be back to try the rest of the menu without a doubt!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
My wife and I had not visited the Plough for a number of years but, after reading the rave reviews and living relatively locally, we thought we should rekindle old memories and visit for Sunday lunch.
The pub still looks fantastic and the peaceful and tranquil setting on a beautiful Spring day certainly made us pleased we had chosen to book.
However, and with regret, the quality of my wifeโs pork and the served temperature of the food proved extremely disappointing. Unlike myself, my wife is not normally fussy with meats and does not normally complain, but her pork proved so fatty and tough that only half of the serving was edible. The vegetables, although plentiful, were barely warm when presented to our table. We may have been unlucky as we noticed that a neighbouring table, that was also served pork, managed to clear their serving and were complimentary to the waitress about their dinners. Although my wife made the waitress aware that she was disappointed with quality of our food it appeared to fall upon deaf ears. Sadly, we shall not be returning any time soon.
Meal and Overnight Stay
This was an excellent find - fantastic meal, great location and superb accommodation. The split level rooms were so well designed and lovely for a relaxing break. We loved our stay in a perfect location for our walking trip - thank you!
Be the first to ReplyMixed feelings
I have mixed feelings about this place. Great location, obviously, but several of our party were severely disappointed by their meal. They ordered the 45-day matured pork loin. It arrived, about sufficient meat to fill a small finger roll,, with a very small amount of veg and potato. Several of our party thought they had been served a starter in error. It was tasty but at ยฃ19.50 this was a rip -off. It took about six or seven mouthfuls to eat. We won't be going back.
A perfect stay
My partner and I stayed and ate at The Plough on Valentineโs Day and we couldnโt have had a better time! The room was fresh, bright and charming with everything we could have needed. The food was absolutely delicious, with my partner saying the brill was the best fish heโd ever had. The surrounding area is beautiful with plenty of walking routes and to top it all off our host was so lovely and couldnโt have been more accommodating.
Thank you again for a wonderful stay.
The Plough, Stalisfield
Delightful. Excellent food, plenty of choice of beers, wines, gins etc and a charming bedroom next door, all to a very high standard. The hosts were lovely too!
