This place was cute! Came for a quick happy hour.
Unfortunately, the bar was closed for a private party but they offered the happy hour menu at the tables. We got the burger sliders and tacos and two cocktails! The 1926 cosmo was delicious and same with the Old Fashioned!!! It's a cute old house with really good drinks! Did valet parking which was easy!

Be the first to ReplyMy spouse and I visited The Raymond during their happy hour
My spouse and I visited The Raymond during their happy hour on a Friday. Valet is available, though we usually park on the street and make the short walk to the restaurant when we come here.We were seated on the patio next to a water fountain; a peaceful spot to enjoy a sunny late afternoon inPasadena.Together, we tried four drinks off their happy hour menu. The old fashioned and G&T were both perfect and generously prepared. The cosmo and daiquiri were both lighter, sweeter, delightful. We have learned to expect high-quality drinks when we come here, so of course, even their $10 happy hour cocktails were excellent. We also tried a snack from this menu: the tater tots. The tots by themselves were OK, but the fresh-tasting ketchup is what made this a pretty good dish (maybe we'll opt for the cauliflower with tzatziki on our next visit for happy hour). We also ordered a few items from their dinner menu. What has made ordering the baguette fun for us is the rotating, flavored butters (on our visit, ours were pimento cheese and espresso). The acorn squash dish was a memorable highlight to our meal. It's an excellent meat-less option, and I am excited to order it again in the future. And for dessert; one cannot go wrong with classic crรจme brรปlรฉe!A note: though their offerings are usually quite good, I've found that, historically, their dinner menu tends to be a bit limited. This may be something to keep in mind if you intend to bring people who may benefit from a few more options.Thank you, The Raymond, for a lovely experience!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was fantastic as usual.
But the service left a lot to be desired. They weren't very busy and we couldn't even get a refill on our coffee.
Be the first to ReplyGreat American place with a very vibey outdoor patio area.
Good option for a chill date night.
Be the first to ReplyThis review is long overdue.
My hsband brought me to the Raymond to celebrate my birthday and our experience was amazing. Our waiter Clifton was so attentive and he gave recommendations from drinks all the way to desserts. Myra was also helpful by suggesting different items for us to try, and the manager Gina was so sweet and attentive. They all made my birthday such an amazing experience that I will not forget. The food was wow! The Brussell Sprouts were the best, that I have ever tasted and even won over my husband who hates them. The poke was so flavorful. I can go on and on about the food, we were not disappointed with anything we ordered. The drinks were smartly mixed and the let's not even start on the dessert. Wow! Everything was 5 stars for us. We will defintiely return to the Raymond again.
Be the first to ReplyFood was excellent, however service was sub par.
We waited over 25 min for a second round of cocktails and the waitress brought 3 of the 4 dinners out and brought the 4th about 8-10 min later. But overall the experience was positive!
Be the first to ReplyI love this place.
It's been a few years since I've been back and discovered they only do table seating. So you can no longer walk into the bar like before, which is a bummer since the ability to walk-in made this place feel like home, it looses a bit of that welcome spirit as before. However, it still doesn't change the intimate setting and thankfully doesn't get overcrowded. There's still a chance of getting a table if you haven't made reservations, but keep in mind that you should to be safe! Had a wonderful time on my last visit, this place is a hidden gem.
Be the first to ReplyWe were here on Vale tine's Day the food was so bad.
It's not worth the money I would never go back again. They use to have good drinks too but when I asked for the drink that lits on fire they brought me a drink and told me that was it and had no flame. It wasn't even the right drink. Also we were seated outside it was so cold. I saw the table next to me which had heat lamp above them but when I looked up from my seat there was nothing. It was super disappointing, food was terrible, undercooked and the fish sauce was terrible. And the bill was almost $500 bucks!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service & food.
The ambiance is great on the patio. They were very accommodating with turning heaters on since it was a chilly night. Highly recommend!

Force majeure struck the Raymond on Valentine's Day, and the hostess was unable to pivot around it.I had eaten at the Raymond before outside, but not when it was bone, chilling, cold. I had made a reservation several weeks in advance, and when I told my girlfriend, she asked if we were eating outside, and I said, no worries they have heat lamps. Not necessarily true. This wasn't really the problem. We were seated on the end, under their awning, but exposed to the cold. The restaurant was horribly understaffed. A table opened up several down from us, under cover of the awning and not exposed to wind. The waiter was busy and after sitting there for fifteen minutes with no service, I walked up to him and asked if we could be re-seated. He said he couldn't do it, but we could ask the hostess, and he walked me inside. This review would be one star if it were based on the idiocy of the hostess. She told me she coukdnt she couldn't reseat us because she was about to seat another couple. Mind you, there was no one around. Also, she said she would have someone bring a heat lamp.Ok. So as I'm returning to my seat, the pathway is such that you have to step aside if someone is exiting. Someone was, and so I did. And the pathetic hostess passes me with the couple she was seating. That act ruined it for me.10 minutes later there was no heat lamp. And my girlfriend kept seeing other tables opening up not in the cold.I ordered a hot tea which didn't come. The when I finally asked a busser for a heat lamp, the general manager stops him because the awning could catch on fire. The general manager then reseated us, got my tea, and made the rest of the evening decent enough to raise the rating a couple stars.Food was not good because it was meant to be hot, but it was so cold that eveything got cold immediately. The lesson here is the Raymond is not a good choice for a special meal. Yes, they comped our drinks. But honestly, we had to go out somewhere the next night for a Valentine's re-do.A hostess had a responsibility to all guests. We will not be returning here ever.

I was very excited to go to the Raymond for a special occasion date night. You arrive and it's forced valet, fine, it's a fancy restaurant. But then you get in and there is no coat closet. You can charge me for valet but you want me to keep my coat on the seat next to me? The napkins are paper, there is no trash can in the ladies room (but there is a sign that asks us not to throw sanitary pads because it can hurt their pipes), and for some reason the waiters are dressed like they're at home bingeing Netflix shows, further establishing that this is not an elegant restaurant. My salad was good, our mains very mediocre (i didn't even finish my ocean trout), but the crรจme brรปlรฉe was stellar and the wine was great.I probably won't go back, it's too expensive for what it is, and it's not elegant enough to be an actual nice restaurant.

Note: I originally sent this as an email to the restaurant hoping to get some kind of response. I never got one. I do not like to write reviews like this and very rarely have, but I'm sharing this here because the upcharge and food and service missteps were so egregious I had to.On Valentine's night, I ended up here with a date. They paid. Between the set menu at $140 per person, plus wine, tax and tip, the bill would have been close to (or possibly topped) $500. For that price, everything should be perfect. I don't care how busy the night is. I worked in high-end restaurants for over a decade, and what we experienced that night was honestly unforgivable. Here's what went right: The ambiance was lovely. It's a unique and beautiful space . The staff was pleasant (if not especially good at their jobs). Extra kudos to a man named Chris who constantly tried to go the extra mile for us. He's a keeper and should be promoted. At the end of our meal, a complimentary glass of bubbly was a nice touch, but at that point, we'd drunk about as much as we could trying to make up for the bad food and subpar service. Here's what went very wrong:While we were offered water almost immediately after being seated, it took a very, very long before anyone asked us if we'd like to order drinks. I'm going to estimate 12 minutes. That's a complete and utter fail on the first rule of service. We ordered from the set menu and waited. And waited. The scallop appetizer, when it finally arrived, was cold. And I don't even mean lukewarm. I did not want my date to know (he'd have felt bad), so I didn't alert our server at the table. I could tell that it was cooked, so I ate the scallop itself so my date wouldn't wonder what was wrong and left the rest of it. I excused myself to the restroom, and on my way there, I flagged one of the employees familiar with our table and quietly asked them to please make sure the rest of our food came out hot. He apologized and promised me it would.Next came the lobster bisque -- tasty, but barely warm. I started to lose hope.Third: the main course. I ordered the duck. The vegetable was delicious, but the duck itself was very poorly prepared. Rather than a crisp sear on the skin, it was rubbery, and the meat was so tough that I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it. When the steak knife finally came (several minutes later -- literally nothing happened quickly all night), it was dull and didn't cut the duck any better. Rather than fight with my plate, I gave up. I think I had three bites total. And finally, the desserts were just... so underwhelming. My date commented that the chocolate cake reminded him of a Hostess Ho-Ho. I'm writing this as someone who worked in the service industry at high-end restaurants for over ten years in both Chicago and Los Angeles, just to give you a sense of my reference for great food and top-notch service. I appreciate what it takes to handle Valentine's day with all the two-top madness, and I'm taking that into account. It's one of the toughest nights of the year. But that's no excuse mistake after mistake, ESPECIALLY AT THIS PRICE POINT. (I visited the regular menu, and on a normal night, what we ate would cost no more than $100 per person. So that's a 40% upcharge. Obscene.)If you are going to put that kind of price on a meal, there is no excuse for it to not be excellent.

too bad because a few years back it was a decent restaurant with good food and service but now it's not the same Too many other choices near by to settle for this place.
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant!! Patrick is the best waiter ever.
He's so kind and sweet. I love their dinners but I really miss their salmon with couscous. I wish they'd bring that back
Be the first to ReplyWent there today, Sunday, July 17, 2022 for breakfast.
Tried the eggs Benedict which are always tasty. But the real reason I was there was to have some of those delicious pancakes that are to die for. Alas, they are no longer on the menu. Service and ambience is great, but the lack of pancakes cost them a star. So Raymond management, I don't know who controls the menu? Better bring back those pancakes or I'll be forced to, may I say, go back to IHOP. And that will be a damn shame. And I'm sure I'm not the only one that misses them.

Bar 1886 is where you go to drink Manhattans and Sidecars in a secluded patio and pretend you belong there.1886 focuses on old-school craft, whether it comes to their dishes or their cocktails. This bar is out of the way and hard to find. But, it is worth the effort. The biggest addition to nightlife lately is the rise of cocktail bars that mimic the illicit, hidden bars of the Prohibition Era.Every L.A. neighborhood has a few and the vast majority are pretentious places that use the gimmick to charge two or three times the price for old standard cocktails.1886 has a Happy Hour with an orgasmic food menu and $10 cocktails including their outrageously good Old Fashioned. Manhattans, Martinis and the elusive Sidecar are expertly crafted and worth your hard earned dollars. This bar boasts 600 cocktails for seasoned drinkers with Uber on their speed dial. There are several pockets of rich people all around this So. Pasadena watering hole with their own snotty rituals. Pull up a stool next to the old money and WASPS of Pasadena and feel right at home!Nowhere, perhaps, are the riches as nouveaux as they are in Los Angeles. Where dressing down is no longer a status symbol reserved only for the elite. This bar makes everyone feel welcome while maintaining the appearance of exclusivity by virtue of wealth; and doesn't require a membership or friend's with one to enter.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance, great service, and delicious food.
I only tried the Short Rib entree and I will be back to try the others. The short rib was cooked to perfection and paired well with the mashed potatoes and green beans. I also had a great waiter who recommended some tasty cocktails.
Be the first to ReplyFood was great for me and the service was awesome.
I can only give three stars because we based our selection of restaurants to go on the menu, which is a must due to my GF is a vegan. The menu on the restaurant web site and on yelp listed a vegan pasta, but once we arrived to find out the menu have changed and the pasta was no longer available. That kind of threw us a curveball as they didn't have anything to offer as in a vegan dish.
Be the first to ReplyTucked away in a more obscured location in a corner along
Tucked away in a more obscured location in a corner along the perimeter of an older residential neighborhood in Pasadena. There's valet parking, but finding street parking isn't very difficult either. This place offers "Fresh, farm-to-table fare and world-class cocktails served in and around a historic 1900's Pasadena Craftsman home." Cool, huh? I came here for dinner with girlfriends to celebrate a few birthdays, and we sat outside on the patio. Nice ambiance, very nice servers, & pretty good food. I liked the brussels sprouts, leafy green salads, and braised short ribs. The pheasant we ordered was a bit too over-cooked and dry for my liking, and I did not really enjoy their buttercake dessert (perhaps Mastro's set the bar too high for any other restaurant's "knock-off" buttercake). I'd say this place has a comforting, romantic ambiance, and would be great for dates.
Be the first to ReplyI am a Pasadena native, and just came here for the first
I am a Pasadena native, and just came here for the first time. It is always busy, so I had high expectations, but unfortunately I simply was not impressed. My partner and I made reservations for their Dine LA service. The day of our reservation we get a call that they won't be doing Dine LA until the following day, which was not the end of the world, and we decided to keep the reservation anyways. In hindsight, I wish we hadn't. The aesthetic of the restaurant is the best part. The hostess was kind enough and there was an individual named Thomas who was really kind and who we wished was our server. Our waitress was awful. She was just rude for absolutely no reason. Maybe she was having a bad day, but I was really put off by how terrible she was. She made us feel like a burden and only checked in on us once. We ordered the bread and butter and a salad to start. The bread and butter was good but that is not saying much because how do you mess up bread and butter. The salad was literally just butter lettuce and ranch with about 3 slices of citrus. Ridiculous. My partner had the short rib for his entree. The meat was good but it was not anything spectacular. The green beans served with it were soo bland, and portion size was pretty small for the pricing. I had the pasta bolognese, and that was a terrible mistake. Absolutely Flavorless, and the pasta tasted as if it had been sitting out for days. Also, they charge $15 for a vodka with soda water.... Come on.... I will for sure not be returning. There are way too many lovely restaurants with delicious food and wonderful service in Pasadena to waste any time or money here. I do not recommend unless you are craving overpriced mediocrity.

I've lived in Pasadena since 1989 and have resisted coming here. The location is not easy to get to and it's not cheap. ย I'm moderately disappointed. The food was bland. The pheasant was over cooked and tasted like dry chicken. The sea bass was generous but over-salted. The brown butter cake was ok. The service was great but they were very busy for a week night. It's also LOUD. It's in an old craftsman home with poor insulation. I wish I could say I'd be back. I brought my own wine and had no cocktails and it was 175$. ย Not fancy food but certainly fancy prices. This can wait... they need to have better and more innovative foods . Shiro down the street is way better. ย Parkway Grill is way better.
