4/5 in both comedy and food
I had no idea the Stand had a full basement with a giant comedy venue! I had been twice before to the “Upstairs” which is very small and intimate, and would highly recommend the Basement! I loved how it’s not as crowded as the Comedy Cellar. The food was pretty good, fries were great and ricotta was pretty average. My husband agreed his fried chicken was just ok. Comedy was pretty good, was chuckling the whole time and didn’t really have any dud comedians but also wasn’t LOLing the whole night. The crowd seemed to agree with me and was pretty conservative with the laughs. Would certainly return, but Comedy Cellar is still king in my book.

We chose this restaurant for its location and it was a really happy surprise. The atmosphere was really nice, decorations for the holiday were lovely. The food was great--we had several small plates and a pizza as well as dessert. Our server, Rebecca, made very helpful wine, cocktail and food suggestions. Great spot.

From start to finish, the experience was excellent! Ticketing was smooth. I loved that aside from the ticket prices, there was no cover charge with requirements to order a minimum amount of food or drink. The host was hilarious, as was every stand-up comic of the evening! Timing worked, as the show flowed from one comic to the next. Yes, there were plenty of offensive jokes. Thankfully, it was "equal opportunity offending". Not one group was excluded! True, there were times that the jokes were on the edge and I cringed a lot, but I laughed even harder. Not a doubt that I will return!
Be the first to ReplyJust Ok but get rid of the host !
Visited at 9pm on Tuesday 13th Dec. Very average, the young guy introducing the acts should try another career path. Set an awkward tone for those that followed. Taking the piss out of the audience doesn’t endear yourself to anyone. Racist, anti British, homophonic & ageism undertones. He should bear in mind that if the audience aren’t laughing it’s his problem not theirs !

I try to make it to a show here whenever I come to NY. Went to a show 7/20/21 and it did not disappoint! It was my first time at the new location. Much roomier than the old one. Loved it! Maybe a few more appetizer options on the menu? Otherwise no complaints! See you next time!
Be the first to ReplySuper Awkward Offensive Humor
This place is overrated. The interior looks good, but that's the only good thing I have to say about it. They don't care if the comedians are offensive. I see other reviews talking about racism and sexism and that's true. The comedy of six comics I saw in one show was bland and I was falling asleep. Seen way better stuff at lesser known venues. I had to walk out of some Comedy Central guy's set for joking about rape. It was horrific. He also made fun of me to the audience for leaving (cause it was obvious because I was in the front row) and made a joke about me being offended by his gross humor! I was surrounded by white men in the audience. Just know that this isn't a PC space. Every comic picked on my friend and I for not laughing because we were sitting at a table near the front. I mean every single one, it was just so disappointing. We get it you're not funny - why are you pointing that out to us again and again? Really awkward experience. Food was just ok. Would suggest a new comedy place for people in this review but since I'm writing this during Coronavirus and everything is closing, not sure what will be open still in the coming months. Don't visit their outdoor shows during this time. Hope this place shuts down. Icky

On our recent trip to NYC, we were recommended this spot by our bartender. It was a great find!!! It is in a new location, very nice inside. The Hummus plate was insane good. The Comics were all locals and very entertaining. Definite must do.

I have never seen and heard in my life that kind of racist jokes(!). It was far away from funny and on top was terrible. Apparently and sad enough most of the other guests were expecting what to get. It was shameful in this age.

The comedy night at The Stand is horrible, the young girl MC was twisted , not funny at all , just raunchy and off colored, every other F word absolutely nothing funny, I actually felt bad for her. Don’t waste the money. A total wreck.
