The Strand House Manhattan Beach Reviews from The Last Year
The food here is just ok...
The Strand House seems impressive at first. Unfortunately, the food here is just ok. Ingredients and prep seem to be top-quality, but almost every dish is held back by bland seasoning and a lack of culinary courage. The service, location, atmosphere and presentation are outstanding. The Strand House almost redeems itself with these latter items. Almost, but not quite. Our meal started with great promise. I ordered a house-specialty cocktail... If It Ain't Rye, It's Wrong. It's a rye whiskey sour, and it was delicious! Kudos to the bar mixologist! But then... We had five dishes and only one really stood out, Wood Fired Cauliflower was an intricate mix of savory-yet-subtle flavors, a solid hit. Fideo di Mare (seafood over pasta) was tasty enough with a delightful assortment of seafood, but the final impression was flavor-muted, entirely forgettable. Grilled Spanish Octopus was a major disappointment. It started with hints of flavor but trailed off into... essentially nothing, much too subtle, almost bland. The octopus was cut into bite-size chunks, which was nice, but nothing remarkable otherwise. Mushrooms Medley was a hot mess, literally. The mushrooms were cut julienne style, but the sauce was just creamy without any savory kick or anything memorable to taste in any way, served in a steaming skillet, one of those dishes you must allow to cool. Brussels Sprouts and Bacon were lovely to look at, and that's about it. But WOW... the food certainly looks good! Presentation was flawless. And it was perfectly served by Christine. She was cheerful, had a deep knowledge of the menu, and provided an excellent balance of attention and absence. The overall experience (not including food) was about as wonderful as a restaurant can be. The view of the beach was breathtaking, and we watched the sun set as we ate. The room was comfortably busy in a party-like way. Table staff were friendly and helpful. It was all very good... except for the food. Strand House changed executive chefs recently, so it's possible that something was lost in the kitchen, like maybe the spice pantry. This was my first (and probably last) visit, so it's only a guess. Go here for a well-served business dinner or a romantic evening. But for a delicious memorable meal? Ehhhh... We were profoundly underwhelmed. All the items described above with coffee and a soft drink were $200 including tax and tip.
BEEF FAT FRIES! Great views, good cocktails, short ribs
BEEF FAT FRIES! Great views, good cocktails, short ribs also amazing but the fries were out of this world. We took our second entree home because the fries were so good, we couldn't leave any behind
I am a serial brunch patron locally and when traveling.
I seek out corned beef and hash on menus at places I haven't visited before. The Strand House has THE BEST I have ever eaten anywhere. Period. And if you're with friends get an order of fries to share. They are as good as it gets. And one last note...the cinnamon roll is big enough to share with a party of six and not only is it substantial it is decadently delicious! I don't work there, I don't get sponsored but I wish I did so I could visit more frequently. P.S - their adult beverage selection is legit.
Idiot managers.
There were two people with cameras just taking video of what they could see from the public sidewalk. The skinny blond woman and red headed guy made workers stand out front with pieces of dryboard to try to block their view. It was so ridiculous and over the top. They created a very silly, unecessary scene outside and even called the cops when no law was broken. Cops came and educated them that the videogrpahers were breaking no law and could do what they pleased from the public sidewalk. Bunch of idiots.
The view is what you come here for, not the food.
All the food is heavily overpriced compared to its flavor and quality. The flavors are not rewarding or creative. The quality of the food is fair. However, the prices reflect that of a premium restaurant. I can say the same for the drinks which lack creativity and flavor but at fairly high prices. The severs are overworked and understaffed. I do keep coming back because of the views and upbeat atmosphere.
We love the live music Strand House has downstairs on some
We love the live music Strand House has downstairs on some Fridays. We especially enjoy the Radio Rebels! The band has such a great vibe that makes it almost impossible not to dance. There's a well stocked bar right there for when you get thirsty from all that grooving. The live music is so rare for a Manhattan Beach spot. So so fun!
My husband and I have been going to The Strand House and
My husband and I have been going to The Strand House and service was always great. Unfortunately, today's, service was slow it took a long time to get for someone to take our drink order. Once they did, it took a long time for someone to bring our drinks. We made a mistake of by getting more drinks and a 2nd appetizer because the drinks took over 1/2 hour and the appetizer never came.
Terrible service and the food wasn't that great.
With a group of 6 for a business trip. Horrible experience. BEWARE of the seafood tower. The lighting was dark and they filled two of the oyster shells with grated horseradish. Much to my surprise, I thought it was an oyster and burned the heck out of my throat and stomach, eventually throwing up in their bathroom. I was so embarrassed but as I was reminded by the group, this would have happened to anyone. The waitress was aware, but not a single word or apology. I honestly thought I may have to go to the hospital. My business partners let the server know and asked the obvious question "why would they do that when they have cups on the side for condiment?" Note, the tower was tall and the lighting was dark and there was nothing indicating that it was horseradish. Not even an apology or an inquiry on how I was feeling. The waitress also twice brought drinks that we did not order. I will never go back and have told many people about this experience. I'm just plain shocked.
Remarkable Sunsets
Perfect place for after work drinks. Easy parking, great beach views , lively vibe. We went for a post work drink, and got a perfect sunset as well. Great drinks, wines and bar snacks.
Hi Zichri V.
: Thank you for your standard response. Honestly, after what I experienced on a very special night with 2 European guests I can honestly tell you that even if you comped my visits for the next year I would never return to The Strand House. I have since talked to some of my neighbors (which I truly wish I had done before) and all of them reiterated different yet very similar experiences that they have had over the last number of years (since Covid) on their one visit..............."like a sports bar"............"very strong drinks"............."overpriced food"................"second-rate service"........ "tables of huge parties"....................
Food was great, but the bartender was very annoyed.
(2/25 @ 1:45pm) He seemed to be having personal issues or simply didn't like his job! Dude, go work elsewhere! It was hard for us to get his attention. I asked for syrup for the waffles I ordered- when I ordered, and he never brought it. I got someone else when I was half way through my meal. I would encourage you to visit when he's not there
We came in on a Saturday for a late brunch (1:30p).
The reason they get 3* is location and views. The food was super disappointing, and so was the service. I can not speak about the cocktails since we didn't have any this time around. In the past, the cocktails were good (solid). There were 6 of us 5 adults and one 6 year old. Two people ordered the avocado toast dish and two ordered the corned beef hash, and the ladt had the mushroom omelete. Grandma and i had the hash, and after about 3 bites, she looked at me and said, "I dont like the stale bread at the bottom." I agreed. Im todays culinary landscape. The hash here falls somewhere between IHOP and Denny's. My wife and Rick's wife had the avocado toast. We took 2/3 to go, and a day later, it's still floating around soon to be dumped in the mulch bin. I think the seconds dish wasn't taken to go. As for Rick's omellete his quote, "Lucky I was hungry!" So make of that what you will. Now for the service. When we ordered, i asked for a hotsauce. I was offred Tabasco. I said great no rush." If you have something else, please bring that too. I was 1/2 way through my meal before, or the server noticed I didn't have hot sauce. They forgot my kid's fried with the chicken fingers. They arrived at the bill (we took them to go). Come for drinks and the view, not the food or service. No complaints with the prices. You are at the beach in Manhattan, and in California, it's going to be expensive.
This was my first time trying this place for brunch and it
This was my first time trying this place for brunch and it was everything. The corned beef hash was excellent. The cinnamon bun was ridiculously huge and great if you have a sweet tooth. They have healthier options as you can see by the eggs and salad. The açaí bowl looked amazing so will be back for that. Try the Jessica rabbit. It was light and refreshing, to me it tasted like carrot juice. The service was quick and you can't beat the incredible view of the pier. Super cute place for brunch.
Follow up review! Lupe moved my rating from 4 stars to 5
Follow up review! Lupe moved my rating from 4 stars to 5 and I wish I could give more! Lupe not only was friendly, welcoming, attentive, engaging BUT she remembered me and my parents preferences from ONLY or last visit. The sunset views are to die for and the food and cocktails are incredible. As my dad would say, this is 100% a comeback place. Thank you Lupe, you are AMAZING!
I went to the strand house last month on a Friday night.
The bartender and staff were great, and the food was delicious. We also were fortunate to see a fantastic band. I got their name, RADIO REBELS. They were so much fun and had a great playlist. My friends and I danced the whole night and had great conversations. I actually may book them for a work party I am organizing. Again, their song choices were perfect, they were professional and talented, and most importantly seemed like they were having a blast on stage!! I can't wait to hear them again! Great place I will be back!
Excellent food, Beautiful View!!
Exellent food, superb service and great view! We had shared the pepperoni pizza which is just personal size. I had the chili spiced avocado salad, which was light and fresh. My aunt had the caesar salad which was perfectly dressed. The view of the ocean was wonderful. But the BEST part was our service! They were so attentive and helpful!
Great Experience for a Dinner Party
Great venue for watching the sunset, good food, and good conversation. We celebrated my birthday and the Strand House made the event a special occasion.
Loud, loud, loud.
Super, super loud restaurant. Couldn't talk to anyone at the table, had to shout. Asked if we could go downstairs to the bar area, the hostess said no because it wasn't open yet and someone had broken a glass on the stairs. The stairs are in the center of the restaurant and yet we didn't a glass break. Food was just ok, service was just ok. The view was gorgeous, just too loud.
Great Place for Birthday/Anniversary/Date/Group Outing
Great spot for a night out, a romantic dinner, or celebration. Great view and right off the main street. Had tremendous fish plates. Very friendly staff.
Amazing location
We had a great dinner at the Strand House. The restaurant is located near the pier with an unobstructed view of the ocean. The indoor and outdoor seating options are both nice and both allow you to see the view. The service was great with the waiter catering to all our requests. We had the pepperoni pizza, tuna, bolognese and fries. All meals were delicious with a good mix of ingredients and large portion sizes. The prices are high so be aware; however, that is normal for the area. A great dinner stop while in MB.
I will definitely return to this amazing location. The service was just simply incredible.
Not only is this one of the best dining views in the LA area, the service and food quality are exceptional. The Ceviche was Amazing as were the Mahi Tacos.

That's what AT sponsorships are for - and you are only paying 25% in the first year and then less in year two and three.
I beliebe @EternalAnt36 was sponsored by @PerceptiveWash44 and is now doing $25k/mo.
You can write on the top sellers profiles (type 'Top 10' in the searchbar) and then tap request sponsorship button after you found the guy or gal like to work with!
