Great omakase experience! The service is super attentive and friendly, and I love talking to the chefs at the counter. It's a high end experience, with each dish explained to you. A great meal for a special occasion!

Amazing!

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Brooke A on 08/07/2025

We had Hillary as our server. She was FANTASTIC! My husband had made a reservation for my birthday the night before and luckily we were able to get a spot for the next night! When we first got there we were un sure of how to get in but one of the hostess came out to assist. We were probably 20 minutes early for our reservation, the other hostess was extremely friendly and was able to sit us early. The food was spectacular! I will say for a 20 course meal try not to eat anything the day you are going. For small bites I was starting to get full after the 10th course. After getting a second wind we made it through all 20. Service, presentation, ambience was all 10/10. I highly recommend going. Thank you to the staff and the restaurant for a great birthday dinner and experience and to my husband for getting us a table. We will definitely be back!

Late post, I ate here in March, but everything was amazing

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Michelle B. on 07/30/2025

Late post, I ate here in March, but everything was amazing and beyond expectations. Everything was fresh, creative and immaculately crafted. Something was unique with every sushi piece so you never felt like it all blended together or was boring. I had never experienced that melt in your mouth feeling until this place's otoro! It was truly spectacular! Well worth the money!

Came here for dinner last night, party of 2, for the 8:30pm

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Irena S. on 07/21/2025

Came here for dinner last night, party of 2, for the 8:30pm seating. You have to make reservations ahead of time since they only seat 10 per seating time, with 2 seatings per night on evenings they're open. Online it says reservations open on the 15th of the month, but we luckily just happened to be looking and saw 8:30pm was available on Sunday! Feeling super blessed we got the chance to eat with chef Wei Chen (?). $250 per person not including the 14% fees at the end, we also ended up tipping an extra 4%. Pros: - EXCELLENT omakase experience - not only was the fish so fresh and tasty, but the presentation of every dish was so beautiful, including the plating - super nice relaxing ambiance - classical covers of animated movie soundtrack quietly in the background , quiet and peaceful but not SO quiet that you feel like you can't talk in a hushed tone. - fantastic service all around as you would expect from omakase - staff refill your waters and tea immediately, there's a hanger for your clothes behind your seat, and a basket for you to put your bags/purses. - super clean bathroom with amenities like lotion, mouthwash, tampons etc - the chef and all the workers were so kind and professional. - even fish you wouldn't think you would like is deliciously prepared. I usually don't love squid but this was delicious - my husband usually doesn't like uni but this was so good in his opinion - you won't leave hungry - it's an 18 course meal including dessert and 6 "appetizers" - my favorites were the uni shrimp noodle cold broth, the Chu toro nigiri, and the dish with the tomato paste. - the chefs presentation is like watching a calming show - the intentional and skillful knife work and plating is mesmerizing to watch - great location - super walkable from many hotels and train station - educational - the girl Carrie(?) was really good at explaining which parts of Japan certain ingredients came from, the chefs background, etc. I feel like I learned a lot and she gave us Boston recs for the rest of our trip as well. - they gave away abalone shells at the end of our meal which was so cute haha - they seat you in order of arrival and we got one of the middle seats with a great view of both chefs prepping Cons: - can be easy to miss the front door (so typical of omakase places lol)- make sure you don't miss the few steps to the sunken entrance - obviously pricey $$$. But honestly worth it to me - a once in a lifetime experience really with no bad ingredients ! Overall 10/10. I really like that they don't really put effort into marketing because it's truly a word of mouth (or internet lol) kind of place and doesn't dilute the quality of service and food. I tasted so many things for the first time (like anago saltwater eel, liver sauce on abalone, cheesecake pudding, etc). The preparation and ingredients felt more complex than some omakase we've done in SF and Seattle. Definitely hope I'll be back for a special occasion.

Consistent food and service

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @rbe1023 on 07/07/2025

My first visit to O Ya was more than a decade ago. I enjoyed everything so much that I would talk about it for years after that. I had the opportunity to return and Iโ€™m happy to report that it is still good. While I wasnโ€™t too crazy about the non-Japanese flavors, I give them credit for creativity and innovation. Iโ€™m a purist when it comes to sushi and omakases; I am happy with good fish and good rice. Tim made the experience even better. Always a solid choice when in Boston.

Amazing Tasting Menu

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Katherine C on 06/28/2025

This entire meal was incredible from start to finish - the pacing, the service and the overall ambiance. We loved everything but special shoutouts to the watermelon oyster to start, the nodoguro with miso vinaigrette, kinmedia (one of my favorites), ora king salmon (very buttery and delicous), Kyoto style morel mushroom (one of my favorites) and the foie gras with balsamic chocolate (last of my top three favorites!) The rice crispy ice cream to finish was truly the cherry on top to this perfect meal.

Walking into 311 felt like a portal from the garden level

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Jered F. on 05/23/2025

Walking into 311 felt like a portal from the garden level of Tremont St to the 3rd floor of a side street in Ginza; minimalist, serene decor, a long hinoki wood counter, and attentive staff both in front and behind. Everything was delicious, with beautiful small dishes and generous-sized pieces of nigiri wrapped around delicate rice. Additional special items are available to add, with the auction-grade uni being a great treat.

Amazing experience! It started off quiet but eventually the food starts coming out and they'll explain what you are eating. The ambience is so calming. All the bowls and plates and art, all is for Japan and hand/locally made there. I liked the low bar with the chefs up high and right in front of you. The service was great everyone was very polite and ready to help with any of your needs. It was an amazing tasting experience

I went to celebrate my birthday and it was everything I

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Skimmilk K. on 04/11/2025

I went to celebrate my birthday and it was everything I hoped! The uni was amazing and fresh. The Tako appetizer was so tender but the Hakkaido crab with the tomato mousse was also amazing. At the end, the chef asked everyone what their favorites were and it was slightly hard to decide. I did the add on auction uni and that was amazing as well. I will definitely go back soon (my belly is so full still! lol) it was nice to sit in front of the chef and talk a little bit when he worked. My friend did the Sake pairing and they were very informative of the notes in each sake and why it was served hot or cold. Overall the service is what you would expect in a high end restaurant (nothing to complain about at all here). My biggest complaint is that I wanted to add on everything from their add on menu and I had limited stomach space. Parking is slightly tough nearby but I got a spot on SpotHero at a garage 4 blocks away ($10.50)

Located on Tremont on the lower level of a residential

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Joseph F. on 04/10/2025

Located on Tremont on the lower level of a residential brownstone, On the Outside 311 is unassuming. You will probably walk past it without noticing it. On the inside, it offers dining for 10 guests in an intimate and upscale setting. I was told by the chef and owner that the menu is frequently changed based on what ingredients are in season. When we went (April 2025), the menu was 6 appetizers and 10 sushi courses, plus miso soup and dessert with tea. The sushi was definitely more of a traditional experience (especially compared to other omakases in the area at a similar price point-- think OYa). The appetizers stepped away from the traditional and got creative. A highlight was the Kegani dish. Crab, dash jelly, and tomato mousse was reminiscent of the best crab and cocktail sauce you've had. The sushi was some of the best I've had. The rice was perfectly seasoned. The balance of the warmth of the rice and fish was spot on. The chef is truly a master here. We opted to get the sake pairings. This turned out to be a choice well worth the price ($125). The pairings perfectly complemented the sushi. I don't know how to explain how perfect they were other than saying that the sake pairings were equally as impressive as the sushi. Cari, the chef's partner, put a lot of thought and work into selecting the perfect sake, and it was masterful! I've been to nearly every omakase in Boston. 311 is definitely in the top 3. It's hard to compare directly to others that aren't as traditional. But I think if you're looking for tradition, simple, perfectly crafted nigiri, 311 might be the best in Boston. We were served fish I've never had before, preparations I've never had before, and they were incredible. The chef, team, and especially Cari served us an incredible experience, and their hard work and dedication showed.

This experience was a feast for the senses.

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Leigh C. on 02/23/2025

From the moment you push the button to be welcomed, you are transported to another world, I only visit in my dreams. Our Host, Carrie and Chef Wei are masters of the orchestra, elegantly and seamlessly offering some of the best Japanese cuisine I've ever had. The service was relaxed, elegant and well paced. The care and consideration for every detail was evident. I would be difficult to choose a "favorite" but the appetizers were the showstopper for me. Every bite was a delight....especially the Hokkaido Hairy Crab...subtle and beautiful....it made me feel like Spring was around the corner; light and bright tomato foam with the essence of the sea from the crab, unreal! Also, do not shy away from the waitlist! We were invited same day....they had a cancellation and we were eager and ready. Overall value, you can't put a price on this. I've been to Nobu and others, but this was simply "special". I dream of going to Japan to immerse into the culture someday, this was dreamy and beautiful. I highly recommend.

Top notch sushi

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @WhirledTravelerOOO on 08/30/2024

Truly top notch sushi and interesting ingredients. Very good service. The room is very very loud, but the lighting was pleasant. We had the 20 course tasting menu for $295 per person. Value for money seemed reasonable for this kind of foodie experience, but the wine list and sushi options did seem a little pricey. The nearest parking is in Two Financial Center, but beware: They close at 10:30pm. If your dinner reservation is late, your car might be trapped overnight.

No longer worth the money.

1/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Val G on 09/15/2023

This used to be by far our favorite restaurant in Boston. But ever since they switched from an ร  la cart menu to a strict prixe fixe menu, it went downhill noticeably. We were there tonight โ€“ a party of six. The food was just OK. But what really made things terrible, was that the time between servings was outrageously long. Average was 15 minutes in between servings, and I actually started timing it. Bear in mind that each serving is just one small piece of sushi per person. So when you have to wait 15 or more minutes between those servings, you spend most of your time being quite hungry and bored. When at one point my timer showed that 26 minutes have elapsed from the last time we received a serving, I called the manager and explained that at this price point they need to do far better, because this is no longer a pleasant dining experience. He simply shrugged me off. I would say that we spent 95% of our time just sitting around, waiting for the next serving to arrive - and the entire experience start to finish took almost 4 hours. At $500 per person this is no longer a restaurant worthy of our business. We have been patrons here for over 10 years but we are not coming back
