Authentication, delicious food
The people saying the staff are rude must have been rude to the staff. They were nothing but lovely to us. The food was great. They even gave us a cake with a candle for our friends birthday.

Very interesting restaurant! Despite the close proximity to the Trevi Fountain, there was only a couple from Korea in the restaurant besides us as tourists. The other guests were business people, government employees and other Romans who spent their lunch break here; thus a true oasis in the usual hustle and bustle around the Trevi Fountain. The food was typically Roman and was really good! The prices are assertive, but OK considering what is on offer. The service was professional and the ambience very pleasant in the old, winding house. The space is cramped, however, which perhaps also underlines the special ambience of the restaurant.

Though recommended by friends who live in Rome, our experience was not very enjoyable. The reception by the unsmiling owner, the mediocre service, the lack of interest shown by all the staff, failure to assist in finding a taxi for our departure and the acceptable but uninteresting food made for an "OK -but-just" evening. Many better and more enjoyable spots to dine in Rome. It was typical that the most interest shown was to make a point that service was not included in the bill and that they could not add this on the credit card but wanted cash instead ! Not very inspiring"

This place was recommended by a friend. I got a little worried by the mixed reviews on trip advisor, but had no such issues. The only Italian word i spoke was “grazi”. My server was helpful, food came out quickly. I wad even able to walk in on a saturday with no reservation. Maybe i got lucky, but i would definitely come back here with family and friends

Friendly staff, good food but absolutely disproportionate prices which, even more seriously, have risen compared to those visible via the web. A plate of gnocchi costs 35 euros you can't believe it!!!

Do you know what is the thing a person looks for most when they go out for dinner and enter a restaurant? Well... simply the smile. Unfortunately it is missing here... and first and foremost from the owner. Atmosphere that is anything but welcoming, no music, old furniture (which can fit), waiters always at attention for fear of a reproach, decent food even if I think the pasta was pre-cooked. But I repeat... anything can be there... but not the lazy face of the owner who welcomes you at the entrance. As an entrepreneur, I feel like telling you that sometimes a smile sticks out more than a well-fried artichoke. Obviously I will never return.

Food mediocre, squid chewy, potato oily, pasta salty. It wasn’t worth the price. Service was OK. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We’ve been here 5 times in the last 20 years and it was wonderful to be back. This is a fine dining place, not touristy/no pizza. Full of well dressed locals and business people at lunch time. It’s minutes from The Trevi fountain but hidden in a side street. You must book in advance. It’s pricey but worth it. The pasta al Moro is Carbonara to die for. The beef cheek was incredible. The wine list is impressive. A special place.

Al Moro is one of our favorite restaurants in Roma. A must every time we visit! All the traditional Roman dishes. Roman artichokes, excellent vitello tonnato, and delicious spagheti pomodoro with basil. Nice wine list. A very traditional Roman setting. A half block from Trevi Fountain. Open for lunch and dinner.

Today we arrived to Rome, with a recommendation for dinner. After 20 minutes walking through touristic zones we came across our restaurant. All I can say is that it was well recommended. A family restaurant with almost 100 years of history. Try the spaghetti al moro and the strawberries and cream. Just remember to reserve.

Superb traditional Roman cuisine in an atmospheric, discreet location. Wide range of dishes, catering for all tastes. I had the lamb chops and artichokes, which were to die for! Wine listings extensive, but tending to the (very) pricey. So choose carefully!

Everyone had a super evening and the food was fabulous especially the tomatoes. The shared starter was amazing with artichokes, oil and balsamic.

Oh my goodness I think this was the best place we ate at in Rome, family run business. We asked the waiter to suggest what to eat & he was extremely knowledgeable & didn’t order the most expensive dishes. He suggested the most tastiest meal we’ve ever had! Would DEFINITELY eat there again. Such friendly staff!

They know how to serve italian food. All recipes are authentic. Definately worth visiting! People were super friendly and clean. Best zampaniole!
Be the first to ReplyA True Roman Dining Experience
Al Moro is one of the best truly Roman restaurants with a long family history serving many of the city's movers and shakers. Despite the noted complaints of some reviewers, I would simply say don't expect the spaghetti and meatballs (you're not in Kansas any more) do your homework- understand the menu, respect tradition and you will be treated in a similar fashion. An absolutely stellar experience with sensational food and service with the second generation at the helm. The best meal our group had in a month of Italian dining.

Appalling service from the moment we walked in… the staff demonstrated a dislike for tourists.
The hotel had booked our table, and when we arrived I had a sense that the front of house had already categorised us as 2nd class customers. As she opened the diary it was clear we were the only booking that evening but we were told no outside seating was available (only one table was occupied). They attempted to sit us on a small table by the kitchen exit (or was it the toilet?). We asked to be moved which they did reluctantly.
Throughout the meal we were generally ignored or overlooked whilst the staff made a fuss of the tables around us… to the point it felt uncomfortable.
The food was uninspiring and the wine list unintelligible. I ate a seafood pasta that was short on seafood (I could identify one small prawn) and heavy on pasta. I asked for help with the wine selection but we ended up with a poor white.
We decided to cut our losses and declined any pudding, we left once they eventually presented the bill.
There were still plenty of free tables outside!
So many great restaurants in this great city… here is one to avoid!
Thoroughly underwhelming….there are hundreds of fabulous restaurants in Rome…this isn’t one of them!!
Service was sullen and unhelpful. I cook better pasta at home! No bookings showing in their reservation diary but they tried to seat us in a back room by the kitchen door…..with empty seats throughout the restaurant. Thoroughly below average!

Food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t amazing either. You can get better and cheaper food at any trattoria. I think it was too expensive for what it was. The prosciutto with rucola and parmigiano and alla moro was good but amatriciana was very, very average. The service was ok, not super friendly but not rude.
