I finally got to try this place, and it was excellent.

5/5 by 👻 @Clara S. on 09/09/2025

I'd imagine at night it's gorgeous - I'll have to come back to experience Bar Tre Dita for this. We sat in the main dining room and passed the pasta making window, which was cool. You can definitely tell that the pastas are handmade in house! We started with the focaccia Bianca bread, which was soft and a nice start to the meal. It's very big as well. The shrimp dish had an interesting green salsa sauce and was pretty tasty. The zucchini blossoms were deliciously crispy with cream and recommended by the waiter for good reason. The MISTICANZA DEL CAMPO salad was actually a large portion and super light and fresh. We tried the spaghetti alle vongole, which I loved because of the light lemon sauce. The STROZZAPRETI ALLA VACCINARA was also tasty but in another oil based sauce which I wasn't expecting (expecting more of a red since it's ragu). This was still very tasty though and both were on the smaller side. Overall, everything was great from the food to the service and ambiance. It's very pricey, but worth it for a special occasion!

My experience here was divine! I highly recommend making a reservation during the firework show. Our waiter was kind and gave advice on what to order and even gave us a bit of information about the restaurant which I always appreciate. The food we had was amazing, and I will be coming back to order pasta as I felt too stuffed from what I had ordered to try it when I went! However, the dessert was sold out by the time we got there which was a bit disappointing.

We ordered drinks which didn't arrive until 45 minutes later. That is totally unacceptable. The service was inattentive, we had to ask to get our sparkling water refilled. The view is great, the food is good, especially the pasta, but frankly there are better Italian restaurants in the city. For the prices they charge, it was somewhat disappointing.

What can I say? We showed up without a reservation and a hunkering for homemade pasta. The place was PACKED!! Everyone beaming with excitement and laughter. Good drinks being poured, incredible ambiance and views are outstanding. Because we are the only fools to show up sans reservation, they did their best to accommodate us. We *luckily* snabbed a high top for standing and they fed us everything we wanted. They didn't turn us away, they wanted to feed us! Amazing! Whenever we are back in Chicago, we will be back!!

Loving Tre Dita

5/5 by 👻 @WINEandTRAVEL on 08/17/2025

I was a little leery having heard how this is the hottest place in town, impossible to get a table, such a beautiful room, etc... too often these places don't live up to the hype. Not here! Tre Dita is hitting on all cylinders. Wow! Absolutely loved the entire dining experience. I loved the understated elegance of the beautiful room and the top level service during the meal. They don't act like this place is a big deal. They just go about their service with great professionalism and pride in what they do. There's a nice connection with the guest. You never feel rushed. We were in good hands with our professional and accommodating waiter, Danilo... he made us feel he was taking care of our every need. Our sommelier, Vernon, was also fantastic. The food? Everything was insanely great! We focused on the pastas that chef Evan Funke is well known for. The CARAMELLE DI MAIS with Michigan Sweet Corn and Parmigiano Reggiano was a show stopper. The texture of the pasta so velvety, the flavors delicate... as it's seasonal, don't miss this dish if it's still on the menu! PICI CACIO e PEPE with Pecorino Croccolo, Black Pepper was fantastic as well, and perfect in contrast... a more traditional dish, but loved the chewy, heavier noodles of goodness, perfectly seasoned. Seems like you can't go wrong with any of the pastas here! I like that they position the steaks as dishes to share, slicing the meats before presenting to the table... like you're at a family dinner. The Wood Fire Grill, along with their method of cooking, added some magic to the TAGLIATA di MANZO, a 8oz Prime Ribeye Cap seasoned with Sea Salt, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This is a cut you don't see often, and it was amazing. Very rich, buttery, super tender... we loved it. Paired the steak with an order of their PATATE FRITTE Yukon Gold Potatoes with Rosemary, Wild Fennel Pollen... perfect! The wine list is well chosen. I was happy to see the 2022 Grattamacco Rosso, a Tuscan red from Bolgheri (30% Cabernet, 30% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 10% Sangiovese and 5% Petit Verdot). Of course, as you'd expect, really nice wine glasses. Kudos to management, Chef Funke and the entire team for what they are doing here. Can't wait to return and explore the menu further. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Tre Dita crash and burn!

1/5 by 👻 @Scott B on 05/18/2025

My recent dining experience at Tre Dita on 17 May was profoundly disappointing, especially in light of a previous positive experience in September of last year. While the food was excellent, the service was unacceptable, marred by what appeared to be a disturbing pattern of age discrimination. We had a reservation for four, but upon arrival, we were directed to a table that was woefully inadequate – barely 30 inches in circumference and height, with child-sized seating. This table's location, sandwiched between a server station and the restroom/kitchen entrance, was also highly undesirable. When we requested a larger table nearby, we were initially told it was reserved for a party of five. This explanation was dubious, as the table in question consisted of a small loveseat and two small chairs, with a table only marginally larger than our own. After a 45-minute wait, during which we were only offered water (no offer of drinks, bread, or appetizers), we informed the server we were leaving. Only then did the explanation for the other table change, and we were finally seated there. However, this did not remedy the situation. Throughout the evening, we observed younger patrons being offered superior seating options, even when their party size was disproportionate to the table. Older patrons, meanwhile, were consistently directed to tables similar to the inadequate one we were initially given. We witnessed other diners complaining about this, but they were not offered any alternatives, despite the fact that open tables were clearly available. Notably, the "party of five" for the table we were initially denied never materialized. Beyond the seating issues, the service remained abysmal. No manager ever approached our table to apologize for the initial seating debacle. We purchased two bottles of wine, yet were left to fill our own glasses. My wife's white wine disappeared after only two glasses were poured, and was never replaced, though we were certainly charged for it. The bar service area was chaotic, with employees appearing disengaged and uncertain in their roles.

Do you know what "three fingers" stands for?

5/5 by 👻 @Taylor B on 05/17/2025

Tre Dita Cucina Tosana is the upscale, intimate, classy and trendy Italian restaurant at 401 East Wacker Drive, in the luxurious St. Regis Hotel, that has been created by award-winning chef Evan Funke. Tre Dita is Italian for "three fingers," the precise thickness of Tre Dita's signature steak, the Bistecca Florentina. But Funke offers many delicious Tuscan options, all cooked over his open-hearth grill. Open from 4 to 10 Sunday through Thursday and 4 to 11 on Friday and Saturday, Tre Dita checks all the boxes for a superb fine dining experience. I started with warm, soft focaccia topped with rosemary and sea salt, classic bruschetta with garlic, tomatoes, basil and extra virgin oil and blue prawns with salsa verde and lemon. For my entree, I was presented with a delicate problem: Which one, eight-ounce Creekstone filet mignon or Branzino? I opted for my favorite Mediterranean sea bass, grilled Adriatic Branzino, with artichokes, shaved fennel, mint and lemon. With Yukon Gold potatoes and Cannellini beans with prosciutto, garlic an bread crumbs. Given the chance, I rarely pass up Branzino. It has become increasingly popular, especially at high-end restaurants, that I am intrigued to see how various chefs prepare it. Evan Funke knows how. For dessert, I chose classic tiramisu with mascarpone, marsala and espresso.

Dont waste your time here

1/5 by 👻 @chichichicago on 04/22/2025

We went to Tre Dita for our anniversary, hoping for a special evening. Instead, it turned into a complete disaster. We had requested a window table. When we arrived, they showed us to a table in a hallway. After some conversation , they moved us to a "better" table — still nowhere near a window. We brought a special bottle of wine — over $200 retail, if you could even find it — knowing corkage was $50. Fine. But apparently, the $50 doesn’t even cover pouring the wine? We had to pour it ourselves. The food itself was good, but not remotely good enough to make up for the service failures. The ultimate insult: we ordered two glasses of cabernet. There was only one cabernet listed by the glass on the menu. Instead, they brought something else — and when the bill came (mid-glass!), we found out they'd served us wine at $74 per glass! When we questioned it, the waiter passed us off to a manager, who “generously” agreed to charge $19 per glass instead. Then — unbelievably — they took away our half-finished glasses. Were they planning to resell the wine to someone else? The whole night was an embarrassing, overpriced mess. What was supposed to be a beautiful anniversary dinner turned into a disaster. We live in Chicago — there are so many better places to spend your money and have a real fine dining experience.

Nice food spoiled by rushed delivery of food.

We went on Sunday afternoon to Bar Tre Dita for the "La Merenda Toscana", which they describe as "La Merenda is a cherished tradition of leisurely afternoon snacking that embodies the heart of Tuscany". However, we were seated at 2pm and by 2.25pm we had already been served all of the savory dishes, so much for "LEISURELY" !!!!! If it wasn't for the fact that we'd ordered a bottle of champagne, our entire "leisurely afternoon" of snacking would have been over with in half and hour. Everything we were served was lovely but the pacing was totally off. We were only half way through eating our first course of cold appetizers when the second course of hot dishes was served. between the two of us we had 9 plates of food on the table at the same time. The food was good, the staff attentive, the room is nice but we felt incredibly rushed and cheated of what we hoped would be a leisurely Sunday afternoon.

Excellent time and experience

The wife made the reservations, party of 4. We Valet the car $38. This is an Italian Tuscany dinning experience. I like how the elevator system has 5 options for you to pick on the touch screen. Once selected it tells you what elevator to go too, there are no buttons to push so you end up exactly where you’re going. Me and the wife were a little early so we took a seat at the bar. The bar area was very nice with plenty of different seating options. One could debate color options or even decor but I liked the atmosphere and vibe. The bar staff was very friendly and informative, all wearing white jackets and looking very professional. They have a very nice selection of spirits, you have to imagine an average drink is going to cost you around $20 or so. Are full party was available and we took a b line to the table. Seating was nice also, I loved the large windows allowing you to view out over the Chicago river while dinning. Waite staff was also excellent, explained everything and help us with a few options we were debating over. All and all we had a ln excellent time, service was on point, food was excellent and the bill was not bad. Would I go back with my wife yes, would I go with friends yes, would I go to have a drink yes. I hope this helps you in considering this restaurant Oh!! They hand make their pasta! It was amazing 🤩

Branzino makes another welcome appearance

5/5 by 👻 @Taylor B on 03/29/2025

If I'm not mistaken, this space in the glitzy St. Regis Hotel at 401 East Wacker Drive in downtown Chicago, on the south bank of the Chicago River, between Michigan Avenue and Du Sable Lake Shore Drive, has been occupied by other restaurants since the building was constructed. I know. I've been here before. But this is more special. And memorable. For several reasons. Mostly, Tre Dita is a first-class Italian restaurant that celebrates Tuscan cuisine under the stewardship of noted chef Evan Funke. And it's a creation of the Chicago-based Lettuce Entertain You empire. LEY has over 120 restaurants in its stable and Tre Dita is one of the latest. LEY knows how to do things right. Open from 4 to 9:30 Sunday through Thursday and 4 to 10:30 on Friday and Saturday, it features an open hearth grill and lots of impressive accents. Not to mention impeccable service. I started with classic bruschetta with marinated tomatoes, garlic, basil and extra virgin oil. I knew I liked this restaurant the minute I noticed Branzino, my favorite fish, is on the menu. The light but meaty and tasty Adriatic sea bass is grilled with artichokes, shaved fennel, mint and lemon. I was introduced to Branzino at a Florida restaurant several years ago and it is appearing on more and more menus. I wish I could say the same for profiteroles. For dessert, I enjoyed a large portion of classic tiramisu with mascarpone, espresso and marsala. When was the last time you visited an Italian restaurant that didn't feature tiramisu?

Wonderful

5/5 by 👻 @Badcop on 02/23/2025

I was worried that Tre Dita wouldn't live up to the hype, especially after playing the reservation game that is annoying. You have to log into Open Table 7 days prior at midnight. I tried at exactly midnight and the only reservation available was at 5:30 in the bar area. I called that day and they were able to move us into the main room and I'm so glad we ate there. The room is stunning! One of the most beautiful dining rooms I've been in. The lighting and music level were perfect. The focaccia bread was melt in your mouth good and the short rib meatballs were delicious. We each ordered a different pasta dish and shared. We loved everything, including the vanilla dessert and I don't normally like Italian desserts. The pacing of the meal and our server were spot on. It is expensive, but I didn't think any more than other upscale, Chicago restaurants. There were two slight negatives. The wine pours were good, but we called the martinis baby martinis because the glass was only slightly bigger than a cordial. Certainly not worth it, so we switched to wine. The hostess had a bit of an attitude. We had a reservation for 4 but one of our party was sick so only 3 of us were there. She seemed put off by that. Also, we walked through the bar area and it was very loud, so we were so happy that we had been in the main room. Other than that, we had a great experience and will definitely go back!

$70 for a side of mushrooms is extortion!

1/5 by 👻 @Jane McShane on 12/23/2024

Let me start by saying we LOVE the St. Regis but Tre Dita is the most pretentious restaurant I have been to in a long time. Let me tell you my story!... My husband and I decided to share the porterhouse ($290). It came with a gorgeous arugula salad and smashed roasted potatoes.... all good so far.... my husband asked for mushrooms and the waiter told us "its busy in the kitchen, its Saturday night and Chef won't want to do that".... We requested that he asked the chef anyway..... The food arrived, no mushrooms, and we asked the delivery waiter if the mushrooms were coming to which he siad "you want mushrooms, of course, I'll ask chef... the original waiter came back and said "you see, this is why I told you it wasn't an option tonight.... chef says a side of the mushrooms will be $70..... When we explained that the dishes that have mushrooms in them were only running around $38 for the entire dish, he said "do you want the mushrooms or not"? When the staff become more important than the customer, you are heading down a slipper slope.
