Went for dinner with my wife and another couple and were disappointed with the service and overall dish quality given the location and prices. Would recommend the bar for the drinks and amazing view but can't say I would dine at the restaurant again.
Be the first to ReplyI went for brunch during the middle of the week.
Food was over priced hotel style and just ok. The view was amazing.

The three stars are for the service and view, our white wine was room temperature (my friends asked for ice, kind of embarrassing to put ice in your wine) I ordered the chicken, beautiful presentation but so dry. I discarded half of my meal. They don't take cash so paying for valet with 5 cars in our party was a bit of a lengthy process, the poor guy worked as fast as he could. I can't imagine how long it would take on a weekend night. I would go back for the view and a cocktail, but not the food.

When I approached the reception desk at Vaga Restaurant at about 11:45 am for my 12 Noon reservation on a Sunday, the tattooed hostess was furiously tapping on her I-Pad. Oddly, she continued her incessent tapping as I checked in and provided my name, scarcely looking up at me during the process. What on earth was so urgent on that I-Pad? Although the restaurant was nearly dead empty except for three occupied tables, the hostess asked me to wait a moment "to the side". She then resumed her furious I-Pad tapping. After waiting and standing there in the empty room for TEN MINUTES, I approached the tapping hostess [yes, she was STILL going at it!] and advsied her that i had just undergone a total left knee replacement surgery and could I please be taken to one of the sea of empty tables in the dining room. She seeemed surprised by my presence, and commented "she wasn't sure" if a server were available. Note---as stated above, the room was nearly empty, there seemed to be a number of staff members milling about, and at NO time later did any additional servers come on duty in the dining room, so it is not as if she was waiting for additional staff to arrive before seating me. Nonetheless,, I was seated at that time. The restaurant was "out" of the bottle of Iitalian Sparkling wine I initially requested. Accordingly, I went with a bottle of French Champagne, which I emjoyed. Once seated, the service by a young blond woman from Vermont [I forget her name] was kind an efficient. She was assited by Joey from Philadelphia, who was equally pleasant I noticed other people who arrived after me were also made to wait inexplicably long times by the hostess before being seated. Why? What is going on at the reception at Vaga? The Fish escabeche was delicious and beautifully served. The valet parking up front is easy and seamless, and the attendants greet you nicely. Someone thereafter opens the door to the lobby, which is a nice touch.

Came for the views, stayed for the food! Its a great spot for brunch, lunch and/or dinner. Cant go wrong with any if their dishes. Vaga made my stay at Alila that much more enjoyable with convenient food and rooftop options all in one. Had their grilled chicken sandwich which was great quality and hit the spot. We also enjoyed the drinks by the fireplace outside at the rooftop bar. Staff were nice a d very hospitable. When we didnt quite enjoy one of the drinks they were kind and took it off the tab. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyWe had a wonderful evening at Vaga tonight.
The atmosphere was cozy, and the service was exceptional. The house cocktails were delicious, and the food was bursting with flavor. The duck carnitas struck the perfect balance of savory, complemented by the escabeche for texture and balance. The Caesar salad with full leaf lettuce, bright dressing, and homemade thin croutons was impeccable, and the catch of the day was simply divine. The fire roasted sweet potatoes were also a standout. Overall, it was a perfect experience, and we will certainly be returning.

Gorgeous restaurant and great service, but the food and wine list missed the mark. The servers also don't know how to properly describe the entrees. I ordered scallops and they were so spicy that I started coughing and sweating (and I do love spicy food!). The chocolate bomb dessert was described as rich and super sweet, but instead it was really flavorless and light with hardly any sugar. The sides of potatoes were just okay. Appetizers were the best with the duck confit tacos (and I'm not a big fan of duck in general). Overall, this restaurant was convenient with great service, but I wouldn't return for another meal.
Be the first to ReplyWe loved the service and view from the restaurant.
The food is outstanding! A real gem on the water!

Great ambience. Will definitely be going back. Beautiful sunset views

Had a wonderful dinner with some friends! Alexis did a phenomenal job going over the menu, making recommendations and checking in with us periodically. We started with the Parker Rolls (delicious and cutely served in a square cast iron pan) and the Charred Eggplant Dip which was amazing! Three of us had the Fish of the Day (Swordfish). They all enjoyed it served in a simple broth. One of our friends had the sea scallops and said it was delicious as well. Two of us chose the Iberico Secreto which was amazing! It's the Wagyu of of pork and it was tender and flavorful. We also ordered a side of Coal Roasted Brassicas which was Broccoli Rabe, Brussel Sprouts, Cabbage, etc. in a vinagrette. Crisp and bright - yum! We finished the meal with a mango ice which was a perfect palette cleanser. They also made some great wine recommendations to go with our various meals as well as some delicious cocktails: Old Fashions & Manhattans. For the quality and service, the food is well worth it. The alcohol is where it'll get pricey if you have a limited budget. But we would definitely go back to try some of their other dishes. It was a very enjoyable evening!

We went to the bar restaurant to get the duck carnitas and a few margaritas. The food was good, albeit expensive.. $73 each.. it was yummy. The next day my bank showed they had charges my card not $73 but an additional $83 and another charge for the entire bill for $160.. total charges were around $$250 for two margaritas and duck carnitas for one! I called the restaurant and the girl who I spoke to " told me she would tell the manager and he would call me. Well I never got a call the next day so I called my bank and had them take the 2 extra charges off.. never have heard from the manager yet.. very bad policies not to call your customers back. Maybe they hoped I wouldn't notice? Check your bill before you pay for this overpriced rip off. Will not be going back.
Be the first to ReplyVaga is defintely worth the price.
The food and service were superb! The flavors were immaculate and magical tasting. We've never had such an experience. My chicken was moist and cooked perfectly. All the flavors melted in our mouths. My boyfriend ordered the Iberico Secreto, Confit Crispy Roots, Escabeche, Pickled Serrano Pepper. Which was amazing and worth the try. We were told that this is the one meat you can eat raw without any worries because of the pigs diet consisting of acorns. We were newbies at a fancy restaurant but they made it so comfortable for our experience. The sun was setting, they had outside heaters and the outdoor seating was very enjoyable. The water was always filled, the music was nice to the ears. Overall a beautiful experience. I recommend 100%

Food was good, tried the French toast and it wasn't overly sweet and can enjoy the whole thing! The lobster on the lobster Benedict was fresh. Loved the ambiance with the aesthetics and ocean view.
Be the first to ReplyYES YES YES.
Everything here was 100000000% amazing. The view, the food, the ambiance.I feel like whoever had less than 5 stars for this place just ordered the wrong things. It was a fine dining experience, but without all the stuffiness. Servers were attentive and made great recommendations. The only ODD thing I would say was that they were adamant about making sure we ordered everything up front. I def understand why, but it just put a lot of pressure on me to order my app/entree at the same time. I like to take it slowwwwww while I enjoy my appies!Looking forward to going back here!

Wow! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday, and the entire experience was superb. The staff, the food, the cocktails... everything was incredible. Highly recommend this place. Every bite was better than the next and we thoroughly enjoyed everything, down to the dessert. It was a passion fruit dessert and it was divine. Loved this place and we can't wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was great and the view was amazing.
Yes, it was pricey. My wife and I shared the short ribs and risotto and they were both wonderful. The view of the beach during dinner should not be missed - too cold to be outside that night but we had a nice table by the window. If you can, get there early and have a drink at the bar - also a view not to miss.

I have been want to try this restaurant despite the mixed reviews. I now see the reason for the low rating ones. It's a very average food level establishment. The location is obviously beautiful but the food was not great. Pretty average to bad. The coffee cake was not good. It just didn't taste right , had bad texture and was too sweet. If you want a good coffee cake, go to Beach Break Cafe. The lobster Benedict was average. Lobster was a bit rubbery, and Bernaise sauce was too thick, not the right consistency. The potatoes were overdone, and tasted greasy. The service was great which earned this place an extra star but I won't e back. The food is just not good enough.
Be the first to ReplyHad a reservation for Friday evening at 8pm.
Arrived a bit early but weren't seated until 8 on the dot, so reservations here are very punctual. Mellow ambiance with attentive servers. Didn't read any reviews before coming here, but I expected elevated flavors based on the website and descriptions. Some dishes were memorable & others I wouldn't care to get again. Tried the following: warm bread 4/5, steak 3/5 the flavor wasn't anything special but the meat was very tender, duck carnitas w/ semi warm corn tortillas (not handmade) 4/5, market risotto 5/5 would definitely order again, roasted chicken 5/5 juicy tender & flavorful & paired nicely w sides that were included, grilled broccoli 4/5 nicely seasoned & paired with romesco sauce, sweet potato 2/5 I don't think it paired well with peanut mole, Margarita 1/5 it tasted like watered down tequila - didn't taste like lime at all. Overall, 4/5 but I don't think I'll return for dinner - maybe breakfast? Also, there is only 30 vallet parking which is pretty terrible. We parked down the street & walked.
Be the first to ReplyIn all honesty, I was not impressed at all by this
In all honesty, I was not impressed at all by this restaurant. It is located in a high-end oceanfront hotel so I expected the service and food to be world class. What I encountered was entirely different. This is the only time I have written a review on Yelp so that might say something. The service was sub-par. Our waiter walked pass our table numerous times and only checked in once to see how we were doing. After around 3 to 4 times walking by our table, he finally looked down and saw my empty Bloody Mary glass which had been sitting there for around 25 minutes and then he finally picked it up.I am only giving 3 stars because 1/2 of my $37 lobster benedict was enjoyable. 1/2 of the lobster benedict had runny yolk from a properly poached egg. The other half of the lobster benedict had a hard yolk and resembled a hard boil egg. Seriously, cooking poached eggs should not be that hard. What is also interesting was that my family and me went shopping in Encinitas afterwards and in one shop, I told the owner where we had breakfast she had the exact same impression from her visit for the sub-par service (we did not discuss the food). In a nutshell, this restaurant is overpriced for the quality of service you will get. The food is a roll of the dice - others I ate with enjoyed their meals but the $37 lobster benedict was worth around $18 at best

We have been following Claudette Zepeda for a while now and have been wanting to come here. We were not disappointed! We loved everything. The style was unique, surprising, refreshing, and very satisfying. We had fresh-baked bread with cultured butter- I could not get enough of that butter on the warm tasty bread. then the hoja santa griddled cheese- we made tacos out of the warm cheese, we should have ordered two! Then the Vaga salad- so good hitting all my tastebuds. The first entree was the mushroom risotto- soooo comforting, I could have kept eating it. The second entree was the 18 oz ribeye- cooked to perfection and the sunchoke cloud side was so delicious that we wanted more. Finally, the tres leches cake with the sourdough crumble were a perfect contrast in texture and flavor. Last, but not least, was the passionfruit custard cazuelita, which was the most surprising of all, with the bright fruity flavor of the passionfruit and the umami of the toasted black sesame seeds. So delicious! The cocktails were also very good. the waiter and staff were very informative and attentive. Great time, all around. Thanks Claudette Zepeda!

Great dinner and breakfast! The food smelled so good I didn't even waste time taking a picture. for dinner we had the Steak and Swordfish and they were both cooked to perfection. Dessert was absolutely amazing I tried it before I could even take a picture as it was mouth watering! We started with warm bread and white wines. The next morning we had breakfast, french toast and oats along with a side of bacon. Hit the spot perfectly. We did dine outside for breakfast and the hostess went out of her way to bring us blankets just in case we got cold seeing we were right near the coast! Love love love!
Be the first to ReplyAmbience - beautiful location and pretty view.
Only valet parking available Service - friendly and remembered names and details. Paid attention and checked in alot.Food - got cappuccino..vaga salad..bread and butter..melted cheese. The bread had garlic and salt and so warm. Thr butter had amazing flavors too. The melted butter came with warm tortillas and the cheese had so much flavour and a little spicy kick. It was so good..nothing I tasted it before. The vaga salad was also good and big portion and fresh and not full of dressing. Perfect. They also gave a free dessert for a bday and that was also good.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was delicious.
Everything we had really hit the spot. Loved the hangar steak cooked to a perfect medium, not overdone. The short rib flavoring was amazing. Overall a very good meal. One thing I will say going above and beyond is the staff here. They are so attentive and accommodating. We had our kids with us and they made sure to make them feel heard as well. The service is what really made this a 5-star review. Ambiance is wonderful too, date nights, celebrations or family night out, the staff really take care of you here.
