Varanasi Birmingham Reviews from The Last Year
A Culinary Journey through the Heart of Varanasi
My recent trip to Varanasi was an unforgettable experience, not just for the rich cultural and spiritual essence the city holds, but also for the delightful culinary treasures I discovered along the way. Among the myriad of local delicacies, three dishes stood out and left a lasting impression: the Chicken Lollipops, Varanasi Special Curry, and the delectable Gulab Jamun dessert with ice cream. Chicken Lollipops The Chicken Lollipops in Varanasi were a perfect blend of spice and crunch. Each bite was a symphony of flavours, with the juicy, tender chicken coated in a crispy, spicy batter. Served with a tangy and slightly sweet dipping sauce, these lollipops were the perfect appetizer to start my meal. The balance of heat and flavour was just right, making them an irresistible treat that I found myself craving long after the plate was empty. Varanasi Special Curry The highlight of my culinary adventure was undoubtedly the Varanasi Special Curry. This dish encapsulated the essence of local cuisine with its robust and aromatic gravy. The curry was rich and flavorful, with a perfect harmony of spices that created a depth of flavour unlike anything I had ever tasted. The meat was cooked to perfection, tender and succulent, absorbing the spices beautifully. Paired with fluffy naan, this curry was a true testament to the culinary artistry of Varanasi. Gulab Jamun Dessert with Ice Cream No meal in Varanasi would be complete without indulging in a dessert, and the Gulab Jamun with ice cream was the perfect way to end my feast. The warm, syrup-soaked Gulab Jamun balls were soft and sweet, melting in my mouth with every bite. The addition of creamy vanilla ice cream added a delightful contrast, balancing the sweetness of the dessert with its cool, refreshing texture. This combination was a heavenly match, providing a satisfying conclusion to my meal.
Amazing
An amazing place for dinner. The food was delicious, the service we recieved from Prajna and Sayan was second none. Thank you for a wonderful evening celebrating our wedding anniversary
Excellent 5 star experience
Me and my husband went tonight prajna and sayan looked after us they was amazing so friendly and provided excellent table service to meet all our needs. The food and venue was 5 star we was took by surprise how big the place is and the decor was beautiful. Also a big thank you to Ray for taking his time to do me a smoking cocktail which was so well presented and tasted amazing. We will be back soon thank you again 😊
Must try and ask for Sobur
Thank you Varanasi for a lovely bottomless dinner. Especially thanks to Sobur our server for looking after us. He truly made my birthday unforgettable with his impeccable service and attention to detail. He deserves a rise! His passion for making sure everyone has an awesome time really shines through. We will be back here soon.
Amazing all round experience.
Wow wow wow this was a fantastic night. We went for my friend’s birthday and the food was outstanding. The bottomless cocktails and the wide range of selections. We really enjoyed our dinner and the presentation of the starters and main course was beautiful. Great service from Sobur he was very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended for a fine dining experience.
Sadly disappointed
Decor and ambience of the place is great. Food is way overpriced snd subpar for the quality of what you get. Take for example the three thin strips of chicken floating in a tasteless, lukewarm gloop of orange sauce that they had a nerve to call a curry for the price of £22. Quite frankly this is outrageous. The customer service was beyond poor. The waiters were slow and seemed untrained in how to deliver a high quality of care to the customer which is odd given the extortionate prices this restaurant charges its diners. Despite the restaurant being essentially 10-15% full several waiters would have to be several times for the same thing (I.e. a card machine) before it was eventually. In the end I was so dissatisfied for the first time in all my years of exploring the dining scene in Birmingham I decided against paying the service charge or leaving a tip. They simply weren’t justified. Varanasi has been on my list for sometime to try and I was quite disappointed. In this increasingly competitive sector of gourmet, high quality Asian dining, this restaurant is levels below the likes of Qavali, Itihaas and Lasans which are comparatively priced but offer a much better dining experience and far tastier food. I dare say more time and investment has gone into the extravagant decor at Varanasi over the years then it has the actual food and customer service. If it wants to remain relevant a rethink is required.
Amazing experience!
This restaurant is amazing, Ali provided great service and was very attentive and made us feel very looked after. I had been here before but my parents had not. They made my mum feel very special as it was her birthday so if you have a special occasion this is the place to be! Will definitely be back for the service alone but the food was unbelievably delicious! Could not fault any part of it and we came on a quiet day! And the atmosphere was still lovely
Delicious food in a beautiful setting
I visited on Friday with my husband to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with a very calming atmosphere however a little cold inside. I am gluten free and vegan. Ali was my waiter and tried his level best to meet my diary needs the best he could. He spoke to the chef and confirmed what I could and couldn’t eat. My food was cooked and served by a separate chef and waiter to avoid any cross-contamination. I ordered all the vegetarian side dishes, which were made vegan and GF to suit my needs. I throughly enjoyed all of them; particularly the pickled okra. My husband ordered and enjoyed the Paneer Butter Masala with garlic naan. As I couldn’t enjoy a dessert to celebrate our anniversary, the waiter gave us two free drinks of our choice, which I thought was a lovely gesture. My only suggestion would be to add atleast one gluten free and vegan bread and dessert option to the menu. Therefore giving it a 4 star instead of 5.
Tremendous Meal Was Spectacular
Food and service were spectacular. Ali was our server and he was so professional and polished. The meal was gorgeous. The best.
Superb evening
Superb evening, lovely food and good service, good value for money. Safe was a brilliant server 🤗. Not the place if you want a long romantic meal but ideal for us, lovely ambiance

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
