Excellent Restaurant
Went today as part of a weekend away to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Loved it. The restaurant has a lovely feel to it, staff are really pleasant and attentive, didn’t even have to top my own water glass up. The food was exquisite. We were served by the nicest man, he was good enough to take our photo, and then when we thought we were finished he came out with a small cake and Happy Anniversary piped on the plate. A lovely surprise to a perfect meal. Made us feel special.

This was possibly the best Indian food we, as a group of four have ever eaten. We chose four different starters from soup to scallops and again different mains including duck and lamb biryani. Everything was flavoursome and cooked to perfection. The selection of wines was great and we opted for the Lebanese red, truly delicious. The restaurant is sumptuous and elegant without feeling formal and stuffy. From the friendly welcome by the doorman to the last farewell we were treated politely and professionally. My only criticism is that the waiters didn't seem very knowledgeable about the menu, the ingredients or methods of cooking. When I asked the waiter to explain a particular dish he merely re-read what was printed on the menu.....Still, this will not put me off going back. A genuinely good find albeit a bit on the pricey side (minimum spend of £55 per person plus 15% service charge.) Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Had an enjoyable meal. Nice elegant surroundings. Opted for the tasting menu. Starters very tasty, one prawn starter, one chicken. Only criticism was same coriander chutney was used on both plates (lucky for me I love coriander!). Could have done with a different flavour to enhance the taste experience further - maybe a mint / mango dressing. Mains selection of 4 curries. All 4 were tasty, the pineapple curry was a nice refreshing mouth cleanser to break down it up a bit. Delicious lamb. Rice and Nan nice and light. Chocolate ganache desert again very tasty, not too heavy and full of flavour. Booked for an occasion so it was a really nice touch to receive a special Happy Anniversary plate with 2 sorbets and a candle. Overall a nice relaxing dinner experience with tasty food

In one word: Divine. Located on Regent street, easy reachable by foot or public transportation. The actual restaurant areas are located on the 1st and 2nd floor. Staff is very service oriented, professional and very kind. Every detail of the interior was on point: real candles, real rose petals on the table, super comfortable chairs, beautiful accessories. And now, the FOOD; delicious. We were two people, each a starter, a main dish and a dessert. One of us is lactose intolerant (milk, butter and cream to be avoided). They were very flexible and adjusted some dishes (taking out milk and adding an alternative). We had a side of butter naan and roti; both delicious. We ended with 2 scoops of sorbet ice cream (dark chocolate and rasphberry), extremely good. Would I return? Absolutely! This is a restaurant where you can really sit, relax, enjoy delicious food, and wonderful ambiance.

I was here for my 75th birthday with my twin sister and two life-time friends. We used to come as children with our parents. It's amazing! The quality of the food and exceptional service made this a very special evening. Only in smart hotels in India and at Cyrus Todiwalla's wonderful dockland restaurant, Cafe Spice, will you find Indian food at anything approaching this quality. The food is just so subtle and literally everything was absolutely delicious.

The business lunch menu is an amazing deal 3 courses for £41. Seated upstairs, the decor is stunning, it’s so beautiful, even the music is light and jazzy. I saw pineapple curry on the main menu, mmm maybe next visit I’ll try that. The food is served in silver bowls and looks so good, it all tasted amazing, so fresh and aromatic. One of our party ordered the vegetable korma and it was outstanding, creamy but with a tiny hit of flavour, probably one of the best dishes I’ve ever tasted. It’s not cheap, but the business menu is a real winner. This is one classy restaurant.

We have been in this restaurant previously and return for yet another excellent experienced. The service by our water David was truly impeccable. The restaurant has wonderful ambience, beautiful decor, clean and specious. I’m a big fan of Michelin restaurants but have never had the pleasure of visiting a starred Indian restaurant. I’m SO glad Veeraswamy was my introduction. Conveniently located on Regent Street with a Maharajah-inspired interior, the restaurant is a hidden gem in the heart of London. Given the food, wine paring, service and location one would expect a significant bill but that wasn’t the case. Granted, you’d have to enjoy Indian cuisine to have a good time, but if you do, then the fresh, flavorful, tasty and YUMMY food will impress. Enjoyed the Veeraswamy experience so much that I plan on visiting it on my next trip to London; you should do so as well!!!

I visited as a part of a group of 8 for a Business lunch which on the whole was a very enjoyable visit. It was a great location for this as it was a quiet area in a very nice setting for a meeting. All in the group really enjoyed the food very much, I could hardly fault any of the food that I had. I especially enjoyed the Sliced Griddled Lamb starter which was packed with flavour. I wasn't a massive fan of the poppadum tray which included quite a lot of crackers (a bit like puffed prawn crackers) but that wasn't a major deal. There were however a couple of things which for a high end establishment surprised me. Firstly part way through lunch some of the kitchen team carried a full size wheelie dustbin and extra bags of rubbish down steps and through the main dining room past our table; this seemed very odd indeed and got a few perplexed looks from our guests. Also there was a fault with the Tandoori oven apparently which meant that no Tandoori meat or naan breads were available at all which was really very disappointing. I appreciate that technical faults do occur but that is a pretty big one for an Indian cuisine restaurant.

When visiting London, I booked to take my husband here for his birthday and was not disappointed. The service was, as you would expect, impeccable. The food selection was very good and we both enjoyed it very much. I had the scallops for a starter and they were particularly good. I would not say that it is the best Indian food that I have ever eaten...but then that was in India!! I knew that it was going to be expensive and it was....but it was worth it to us for the special experience.

Apparently the oldest Indian restaurant in the country, this had been on our list to try for some time. Finding it is not especially easy, it’s entrance is not actually on Regent Street despite the address, but down an alleyway off of it. Even then, the only signage we saw was the restaurant’s name projected on to the floor in light rather than anything fixed. I think without the SatNav open on my phone I might have struggled. The entranceway itself is fairly unremarkable being just a small lobby area and a lift, although there was a friendly doorman to point us in the right direction. On emerging from the lift, there was another friendly person or three waiting to greet us, and the restaurant opened out in to quite a large area. It’s not as old looking as you might think, whether this has always been their premises I’m not sure, but if so, it’s had some considerable redecoration in that time. We started off with a tray of poppadom’s, and these were quite unusual being about three different varieties, and neatly folded and placed in to different sections on a wooden tray, rather than just being piled high on a plate as would normally be the case. A decent array of the usual accompaniments arrived alongside. Drinks choice was a little unusual, with no sign of any Cobra or Kingfisher, for example. I think I opted for the Korev in the end, which is Cornish, not Indian! Do be careful when ordering though, as many of the lager choice are small 330ml bottles, but the prices don’t seem to reflect this. We skipped starters and went straight in to mains. Again, rice choice was more restricted than usual, with just Plain or Egg Fried, so no Pilau for example. I went for the prawn curry, and this was a decent and tasty dish with plenty of fat juicy prawns and a good flavour. A Biryani elsewhere on the table was also well received. On asking for the bill, we were first brought a small chocolate cake for my wife’s birthday which I thought was a lovely touch and a real surprise, I had completely forgotten that they even knew, I guess I must have mentioned it when booking. Overall I thought the food here was very good, although certainly not the best I’ve had, but the service was slick and professional and it had a very nice ambience to it. I’d happily return if in the area.

I’d like to start off by complimenting our waiter in the strongest possible terms. I have the most dreadful memory for names, but it was either David or Daniel, and he was excellent from bell to bell. So attentive, So informative, so knowledgeable, big head waiter vibes! Starters were great, ordered scallops and lamb and both exceeded expectations, the scallops in particular were buttery smooth and the paste upon which they were served made for a spectacular pairing. The lamb was a touch over cooked for my taste, but that comes down to pure preference as we both still adored the dish and my girlfriend (a chef herself) declared it “the best cut of lamb she’s had in the UK”. Main courses. Lobster and Duck. Lobster in a curry sounded decadent and excessive on paper and on presentation, that precisely sums it up. Every bite could have constituted a whole meal at a lesser restaurant but the spice and sauce balanced things perfectly and had us wishing we’d ordered more. The duck, on the other hand was a dish of two halves, or more accurately, three thirds. We both agreed that the sauce, while delightful was too heavy on winter spice, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg all way up front with a tendency to drown out the more subtle flavours of the sauce, the sweetness and gamey quality of the duck leg paired beautifully, but as is so often the case with breast meat on a long braise, the duck breast proved dry and more than a bit stringy. Finally I feel I must comment on price. As someone who works within the hospitality sector myself I understand the need to make money during this most volatile period, however £8 being the base level for a 330ml serve of lager seems more than a little steep, I’d recommend looking into a change in supplier if you feel they such pricing is necessary. Similarly the pricing on seafood (lobster in particular), seems a little excessive when your neighbouring competitors are serving half Lobsters at around the price for which you are serving less than a quarter. Besides my few minor quibbles, this is comfortably one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in London. I was actually an attendee at a private dining event around 18 years ago, I was sent home before dinner was served as I would have been up past my bedtime otherwise! This was my first return visit since and it more than made up for missing dinner last time, I hope to return very soon. Many thanks for a wonderful evening CT

I normally walk out disappointed when I visit indian restaurants. I’ve been to a few well known ones from star studded chefs but the food has always been ok. No where I would ever go again. However, Veeraswamy delivered in every way. Walked out extremely happy as the venue, food and service was exceptional. I genuinely can’t wait to go back and can’t believe I’ve never been before. It is on the expensive side however you won’t feel hard done by and you won’t leave disappointed. Worth every penny’s Review broken down: The service. This was incredible. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and made you feel very welcome. They definitely went above and beyond in every way to make us comfortable. 5/5 Food (including order): In general everything we ordered was amazing. Nothing I wouldn’t recommend. By order item: - Raj kachori: amazing. Great flavour and made me feel like I was in India. 5/5 - Mulligatawny soup: the recipe is the original from 1920’s and tastes amazing. Hearty, warm and slightly tangy. Get this to share among a few of you. 5/5. - Angara chicken tikka: tender marinated chicken cooked jam. Tandoor. Great flavour 4/5 - scallops: well cooked and great flavour. 5/5 - beetroot and cheese croquettes: a standout dish along with the soup. This was incredible. The cheese sauce could have done with some more Stilton however the flavours f the spiced beetroot were unreal!! 5/5 - lamb rogan Josh: great flavour and sauce. It did melt away but nothing spectacular. 4/5 - chicken do piaza: brilliant. Extremely tender chicken pieces that melt away in a lovely sauce with a hint of orange. 5/5 - travencore prawn curry: well cooked and great flavour 5/5 - Bhindi kadia: was ok, expected a bit more however the flavour of the Bhindi did come through 3/5 - pineapple curry: was a very good accompaniment, could do with more masala 4/5 - tadka daal: standard tadka daal 4/5 - raita 4/5 - bread basket 5/5 Drinks: All the drinks were great. The masala tea, lychee cocktail, mojito etc. 5/5 Overall I can’t wait to go back and try everything else on the menu. Total Score 68 of 75. Complete winner!!

Excellent food and service. Went for the set meal which was great. Definitely recommend the speciality pineapple curry! Service from Davide and Yash was exemplary. Also was lucky enough to meet one of the chefs, Rashida, It’s a little pricey but for a treat would recommend! Cocktails were lush too!

This was our 2nd visit to Veeraswamy and was even better! Friendly greeting at the door who showed us up to the restaurant. Staff were great, really attentive without being intrusive. Happy to advise on menu and how much bread / rice to order as sides. Food itself was amazing. The scallops to start were so tender and perfectly spiced. Chicken Makhani au vin was the best ever I have had. The sauce was full of flavour, my husband kept dipping the naan in it. He had the 6 hour cooked lamb shank cooked in pastry, it just fell off the bone. I love this restaurant, it is lovely inside with a great atmosphere. We can't wait to come back. Thank you.

Good service, went for my husband's birthday and they brought a small cake with candle which was nice. Food was a bit mixed the chicken tikka starter was very nice, the slamb slice felt overly seasoned. I had the halibut and prawn curry which was fab, but my husbands duck vindaloo was disappointing, not spicy at all and very fruity with a strong plum flavour. It was too heavy as well. The daal ok nothing different from your normal takeaway but the raita was very tasty and had a more special Michelin star feel. I think the overall experience was better than what we had at Benares and Gymkhana so I think it does deserve it's star and one of the best fine dining restaurants we have been. Even though it does not have a star I actually though Mango Chutney it's sister restaurant was better so would recommend a try if you like Indian food.

I enquired about booking a private dining room for a lunch for my and my partner's family. I hadn't asked about a nut allergy, but without even me asking their standard reply said they don't cater to nut allergy sufferers at all. This was disappointing, and even infuriating. No indian restaurant we have been to has ever turned my partner (who is allergic to nuts) away even though nuts are integral to indian cuisine. All of them make an effort to at least make one nut free dish. Even casual cafes make an effort. Let alone a place that's supposedly fine dining. We have been turned away a handful of times before, usually random deliveroo eateries that can't be bothered to make an effort. For an allergy sufferer, meals are hard enough as it is. To be turned away when hungry is a gut wrenching experience. I wasn't going to leave a review at first because I emailed them and wanted to see their response. Then I checked this site and saw the pretty audacious replies they gave to other nut allergy sufferers - putting the blame on them, making them feel bad for expecting to be catered to. I'm sure the response to my review will be something similar. Just a complete lack of empathy. Hence I decided to leave this review as I hope this prevents other allergy sufferers, and others who don't feel this is right, from eating here.

Without doubt this has got to be the tastiest meal we have ever bought. The service was impeccable, the setting on Regent's Street is amazing, but most of all the food was just the tastiest, freshest, well cooked meal you could eat. By no means was this a cheap meal, but for a special occasion it's was worth the every penny. Will certainly be looking forward to eating here again.

Classic fine dining with regalia of the Maharaja in central London. Awesome interiors compliment the best in class service and tasty food served with a smile. The rice and chettinad vegetable korma were Awesome so were the Paneer and Lamb chops. Highly recommend if you are in that part of the town. Advance reservations are a must and proper dress code.

A nice meal but not great value. A warm welcome, good cocktails and a nice table overlooking Regent st. Evident that the dress code etc is a load of nonsense with quite a few people in t shirts and trainers - no problem with that but why have a dress code anyway? 2/3 starters were really good - a memorable spinach was the best course of the day. Delicious soft Chicken Samosas. Scallops were very small and drowned a bit by unsubtle spicing- Rogan Josh and Biryani were fine - very spicy, Nan bread fine but couldn’t separate from a really good Indian restaurant on the high street. Sorbet to finish completely forgettable and indistinguishable from any good brand from the supermarket. Overall it felt like bar 2 of the starters they just went through the motions producing ok food with little creativity or invention. Food 4/5 ; service became more absent as meal went on 4/5 ; value expensive given the quality of food and service at £90 plus a head with wine and drinks. 2/5 If I could give 3.5/5 then I would. Good to visit for the history and a tasty meal but don’t expect a top end experience. Overall the cost let’s it down a bit.
