Beautiful space, wonderful dinner experience
We had a wonderful dinner experience. Started the evening at the bar with a round of some fine cocktails. Service was on point and the wine menu is impressive. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyA complete over statement. Waste of time and money
The ambiance is fine, the quality of the food is well below average for a restaurant of this “level”. The waiter was not properly trained, she mentioned how the dishes were prepared and the reality was totally different. She had no idea whatsoever….but she was nice The wine list was extremely poor. The service very disorganized as they did not know who ordered what and they were putting plates on the table It may be a trendy restaurant because of the ambiance but it is not a good restaurant based on the quality of the food, service and selection A complete disappointment
Be the first to ReplyThanksgiving Dinner At Verōnika: No Thanks.
For Thanksgiving, 2023, I was in New York to support a wonderful charity, and took my family to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in the morning. Since we were away from home, we made reservations for the special, prix fixe 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 at Verōnika. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐬 • Served in a beautiful setting. I was sitting at the end of a rectangular table with a central leg, making my place a little uncomfortable, but that's sometimes just the way furniture is built. • All the staff were extremely personable and friendly. From the doorman, to the hostesses to the coat check to the wait staff, everybody wished us a happy holiday and went out of their way to make us feel welcome . • The dishes, and the way food was presented on them were a delight to the eyes. • The smell of the food was wonderful. • The homemade croissants were exceptional. I truly wish there had been more. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬 • Pretty much everything else, though I did not taste the 𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘭 𝘴𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴 that my wife ordered. • The “𝘊𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘵 𝘚𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘴𝘩 𝘎𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘱” was the next best thing any of us tried after the croissants, but I was the only one who finished a bowl. • After the disappointing starters (some ordered the “𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘮 𝘙𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘭𝘪 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘮é”), there was well over half an hour between the time our soup dishes were cleared and our main course arrived. By that time, to my sorrow, everybody was frustrated, with some scrolling on their phones. Notably, this was the last seating of the evening and there were many empty tables; The problem was not the crowds. There was a high server-to-guests ratio as waiters stood around with nothing to do, but ready to instantly respond to any patrons seeking assistance. • Between the five of us, we tried two of the three offered entrees (nobody was inclined to test the “𝘝𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘯 𝘙𝘰𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘛𝘶𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘺" on Thanksgiving). The “𝘍𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘏𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘍𝘢𝘳𝘮 𝘛𝘶𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘺” was very, very dry and had a grainy feel, like ice cream that had accidentally thawed and been re-frozen. The "𝘌𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘵 𝘊𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘓𝘢𝘮𝘣" somehow had the same unpleasant texture. Nobody finished their main course. Perhaps my son captured some of the experience without being precise when he said, "Everything tasted like liver." • The brownish block titled "𝘈𝘭𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘨" and the cube of "𝘗𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘵 𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘭𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯" were a cross between a high end cafeteria and the solid attempt prepared with the limited tools that one would appreciate on a long haul commercial flight in business class. • Our original waitress had ended her shift, and 10 minutes after the entree dishes were cleared, her replacement graciously and apologetically said that our dessert orders had not been recorded for her, so she took them again. 15 minutes after that (again, nearly half an hour after the prior dishes had been taken away), the final course arrived. The "𝘗𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘗𝘪𝘦 𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘭𝘦" was the best, and with five people at the table, half of the one slice that had been ordered was left on the plate. The "𝘙𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘊𝘢𝘬𝘦" was a very thick layer of toasted meringue over concentrated sugar in a raspberry filling and nothing but the thinnest layer of anything that could be called cake; It was beautiful to look at, but not very appetizing. The "𝘝𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘊𝘢𝘬𝘦" was admittedly a gamble, but we lost that bet, though one of my daughters enjoyed the ribbon of chocolate decorating the top. • I am sincerely awed at the bartender’s ability to screw up a 𝘳𝘶𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘬𝘦. I asked specifically for 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯'𝘴 if they had it. He or she elected to substitute 𝘉𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘭 𝘈ñ𝘦𝘫𝘰 and made it so strong that it could almost be described as a glass of rum over ice with a heavy splash or two of cola. Perhaps the excess of alcohol justified the nearly $20 charge, but it was largely undrinkable. More to the point, it was not what I ordered. I have had many meals in many restaurants in Manhattan. I have occasionally tried something that I was not sure I would like, and sometimes it was not appealing to me, but that is the nature of trying new things. In this case, we thought we knew what to expect. I can say without equivocation that this was the most disappointing meal I have ever had in a New York restaurant. To be fair to the chef and kitchen staff, this was a special menu for one night, and it is entirely possible that it is not a fair representation of what they serve over the rest of the year. TLDR version: Six, really great, homemade croissants for almost $1,000 accompanied by a beautiful display of other dishes that were not very enjoyable. I could not bring myself to leave a small tip because the serving staff did their very best work with what they had and were unwaveringly likable. We left Verōnica's Thanksgiving Dinner unsatisfied. Not much was open for walk-in business in Manhattan late on Thanksgiving night. Fortunately, we still had some food in our hotel room.
Be the first to ReplyHigh Class Dining - Great!
An amazing establishment! My wife and I were treated with stellar service. From the moment we arrived to the completion of desert our every need was attended to. The bartenders were skilled and friendly, the wait staff very professional and classy. It was a great experience and ambiance, food was perfect. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyLousy lazy service, excellent beef
Nice interior, great bar and restaurant. Hip and trendy. The beef was absoluut exellent. The waiters were more busy with themselves than giving service. Chatting with eachother between the tables, forgot to bring the coffee and drinking wine by themselves. Big contrast with the food, which was very tastefull.
Be the first to ReplyThe worst bar experience I’ve ever come across
I made a reservation at this bar, when I arrived I was told to stand in the bar with a menu while they sorted my table. 15 minutes later I heard the bar staff say it was last orders. I went back out to the reception to enquire about our table and I was told the hostess had GONE HOME and nobody was looking after us. One of the other staff realised there was a big mistake here and told us he would sort us out. Without telling us where we were going, he brought us out of the bar on to the street to a DIFFERENT BAR. What an absolute joke. On top of that they charged us the no show fee and took $100 out of my account. I also emailed them twice about this and noone got back to me. Bar is small and not impressive in real life so it wasn’t a massife shame we didn’t go there in the end but the worst bar experience I’ve ever come across.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience
I thoroughly enjoyed dinner here at Veronika with five colleagues on a recent Wednesday evening. The dining room is absolutely stunning, service was warm and friendly, the acoustics were perfect for conversation, and the food was fabulous. Our table loved the lobster omelette, the flank steak, the schnitzel, the herbed tuna, oysters, and beef tartare. If you’re near Madison Park, I strongly encourage you to check this place out!
Be the first to ReplyMy ears are still ringing
Yes, it’s a pretty room and the staff are nice, that’s where it ends. Seated a half hour after reservation while waiting in a claustrophobic crowded bar being banged into. The music was deafening, I mean bass thumping in my chest with no chance for conversation. The food was ok but took an inordinately long time to come out. Miserable! Never ever again.
Be the first to ReplyOpulence and splendor
This is probably one of the most uniquely beautiful spots I’ve dined at in New York. The Fotografiska’s influence here is truly evident. Everything is over-the-top and elegant, from the sky-high ceilings to the equally tall windows. The croissants as a starter are exquisite - one of the better bread courses I’ve come across. I wasn’t super hungry so just got the beet salad and a side of fries – both were very good. I think this spot is more for the ambience vs. the actual food, but the dishes here were still solid. The desserts here were quite creative and yummy as well. I loved both the strawberry meringue one as well as the peach yogurt dessert.

Verōnika is an absolutely gorgeous date night spot with a wonderful classy vibe. Our bartender, Matt, did an amazing job making us feel at home and taken care of! I will definitely be back!

Friday night, a group of nine a mix of business and friends. We had a fantastic evening. Perfect service, great cocktails, and excellent food. I recommend this place and will come back for sure.
Be the first to ReplyA for Vibe, Atmosphere, Drinks and Service, C+ for Food
Veronika has had a change and management and in their chef, and recently reopened. It gets high marks for the atmosphere, drinks, vibe and service. The food, however, could use an upgrade. The breaded chicken (Jager schnitzel) was nothing special. The mushroom sauce made the dish, though it was too thick for the dish. The halibut was very good, as was the sorrel sauce. The market salad was ordinary and skimpy on the dressing. Strawberries and cream were a winner, as were the cocktails. Service is excellent -- knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and efficient.

Fantastic experience. Service was Exceptional. Wine was well paired and eclectic. Very memorable. Best dishes were the caviar appetizer and the salmon entree. Memorable.
Be the first to ReplyWorth going just once.
Good service however the food is mediocre. We sat close to the bar. Desert was yummy. It’s worth a visit but not a repeat place by any means.
Be the first to ReplyGo there and enjoy both food and atmosphere
Veronika is one of the hottest new places in NYC now. Offering a great experience from the welcome, through the entrance bar, elegant dining area and smooth waiters giving you that luxury touch.
Menu has an influence of east European but is really international. Excellent variety and a wine list that is equally elaborate.
All served with a touch of flair.
Highly recommended for that date evening or a better business dinner.
Elegant Setting with Wonderful Cooking
There were so many amazing dishes on the menu it was hard to choose. For us it began with the Poppyseed Milk Bread with cultured butter and dill oil and the Soffle Sussese and Herring Under a Fur Coat. All were terrific. For the main course it was Chou Farci (foie gras-stuffed cabbage with duck breast) and the Feuillete au Poulet (puff pastry, heritage chicken and black truffle). Again all were very good. For dessert we had the Baked Alaska. Very good too. Like the Baked Alaska the menu carried favorites from the first half of the 20th Century like Chicken Kiev and Wiener Schnitzel. The chief Stephen Starr is trying to evoke the Orient Express with dishes from the Ukraine, Austria, Germany, Italy, etc. Nice place for a special evening. Service is great too. Before or after dinner be sure to visit the photo galleries on the 3rd-5th floors.
Be the first to ReplyHOT SPOT
This is now the best restaurant in NYC in my opinion. I've only been able to book dinner here once, its so hard to get a table. But when I went, it was so elegant and upscale, the crowd is very international and decoration is amazing! I believe they are the same owners of Le Cou Cou in Soho, I think at least, but this is so much better. If you cant get a table, I suggest stopping by the bar for a few drinks at least, although it is crowded.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely beautiful place; wonderful staff
Had dinner one week after it opened. Incredible staff: welcoming, knowledgeable, unpretentious. The design aspects wonderful, the lighting is breathtaking. Food is Eastern European (think goulash/paprikash) and it was very good and presented artfully. Noise level acceptable but suggest going early before the hordes arrive. I'm not a wine person but my dinner partner is and he was very happy with the sommelier and wines chosen. Very pricey. Bring money. It's for a special night out.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful space and good food
This new hot spot is located on the second floor of Fotografiska which I can only assume is a museum. There's only one elevator, it's big but slow. Once we got to the host, they didn't seem to be able to find my name. I had to repeat myself 3x and he even asked me if I'm sure it was made under my name. He finally found it on the fourth try when he paid attention to the iPad. We checked in and checked our jacket, but then had to stand awkwardly in the entrance for our table. Other couples had to do the same. That flow is off and needs serious work.
Once we sat, the service was a bit slow. However once our waiter started greeting us, things went smoothly. We started with the escargot and the oysters. Both which were delicious. The small loaf of bread that came with the escargot is an issue but the waiter noticed it and quickly fixed it.
For our entree, we ordered the salmon and the duck. The salmon was overcooked and a bit dry but the flavor was there. The duck was perfectly cooked and the foie stuffed cabbage was to die for. I absolutely loved it.
We finally finished with the medovik cake and mandarin sorbet. The cake was quite good but the sorbet was too sweet.
Overall the food was quite good and the space is gorgeous. They have some kinks to work out but off to a good start.
Could not fault
Wow what a contrast to some other pretentious trendy restaurants in NY this trip.
I not only received great recommendations from Louis my food service host and Jose my wine service host but also two managers who both asked twice about my experience this evening.
Everyone treated me like a person not a number and was genuinely seeking feedback. This is perhaps understandable given Veronika has only been open for a month, but it's so refreshing to have service that genuinely seeks feedback to improve.
The architectural ambience is gorgeous although if you are intimidated by a bit of European luxe it might not be as intimately casual as I found it. That being said the service is very friendly, enquiring and not at all stuffy or pretentious. Quite the opposite.
So. Food. Gorgeous. I wont say light as its unashamedly Eastern European but exquisitely crafted with quality produce and plating. I had the herring under a blanket appetiser (seriously the Europeans have strange names, not to be confused with English atrocities such as pig in a blanket!) and the Monday special beef stroganoff for entree. It was nicely comemplemented by charred cabbage (dry texture with nice char not soggy or salty).
I'll be back. Hopefully with my partner in life.
Brand new restaurant, but very disappointing!
Based upon reviews for this restaurant, my wife and I attended on a Sunday evening for dinner and, hopefully, a bit of Russian flair.
Our server was good being friendly, helpful and efficient. We ordered the following:
(1a) 'Herring Under A Fur Coat', which was very disappointing due to the absolute lack of herring. Literally, lots of vegetables and a nice vinaigrette, but little herring. I had to search through and under my vegetables to find traces of the fish, which just did not come into fruition. My modest advice to the chef, change the name of this dish to 'Under A Fur Coat';
(1b) Borscht soup, was well appreciated with different textures and tastes;
(2) We both had the Coulibiac De Salmon, which was described as 'a cross between Salmon En Croute and a Salmon Wellington'. This was good, but not great. I prefer my salmon well done in the center, as opposed to raw; and
(3) Dessert was Poire Belle Helene with Castella, almond dacquoise, pear mousse and sauce au chocolat. This was presented nicely, but was not memorable.
My wife was not drinking, but I fancied a glass of chardonnay with my main course. The sommelier dealt with this, as opposed to our server (for clarification that will become apparent later in the text). On the menu was advertised a $17 of Phillipe Colin Le Prince Despierres, Burgundy, 2017. On viewing my receipt I had been served a $34 glass of GL Bitouzet Mersault. Nice, but it seems I had been cheekily sold this without being informed of the change.
On a final note, whilst our personal server was good, a great deal of attention was being paid by staff to the table next to ours. We have no problem with this, save it became a little annoying that staff had bumped into our table on more than one occasion in the process.
For those of you looking for that contemporary or traditional Russian flair, perhaps go somewhere else until they get it right!
