I’ve been to this restaurant several times but hadn’t returned in 20 years. I was pretty excited when my husband surprised me with a visit as it’s always so hard to get reservations and we aren’t the best at planning ahead. It’s always been one of my most cherished memories. Pros: The food was even better than I remembered it. The chef does a fantastic job. Each dish was presented beautifully. We tried the 0% proof (non alcoholic) pairing and it was a really unique experience. It was a nice touch when we were too full to send most of our dessert home. The service was top notch. The servers were so well educated and loved to share the information with their guests. Service was honestly as good as it could possibly get. I couldn’t think of a single suggestion to say for food or service. Cons: It just wasn’t as magical as it used to be. It just flat out wasn’t. The new decor is actually boring. It’s a shame really. The carvings on the pillars and ceiling were truly lovely but because they were all stark white they really weren’t popping. Table clothes were white. Flowers were white. No artwork on the walls. Tables set very separately where it previously felt cozy this felt stark. Lighting is super off. Nothing reminding you of Victoria and Albert which I think used to be part of the service theming. Special touches were sadly missing and those were my favorite parts previously. The gorgeous menus which used to have a seal and your name written in gold calligraphy had been replaced with a paper menu with our names printed on the outside of the envelope from a regular printer. Last time we visited we each got a gorgeous long stem rose. Nothing special like that this time. Even the Turkish coffee pot which so mesmerized me last time seemed smaller and more cheeply made. Lastly Zero value. Felt sick inside paying $1175 with tip for a dinner for two people when only one of us did any pairing and that was non alcoholic. We were celebrating a very special occasion and wanted to be pampered but really there just is no value.
