Yamazato Amsterdam Reviews from The Last Year
A dinner to remember
We booked 3 Michelin starred restaurants for this trip, and this was the best. Excellent food, excellent services from the whole team. The view of the garden from our table made you think you are in Japan. We’ll do it again next time in Amsterdam.
Best Japanese experience in Amsterdam
Go here, I have been many times and every time I visit this restaurant it is a huge pleasure. Food is exceptional and staff is excellent.
A short break to Japan
The diner was fantastic! The service from Chinami was outstanding. Her service and the different tastes of the menu bring us back to our visit to Japan last october! We enjoyed it very much! I have a allergy for paprika. Chinami and the chef take the time and care that there are alternives that tastet very good!
Wonderful vegetarian experience
Yamazato surprises us every time with a wonderful vegetarian experience, that is fully worth the money.
A Japanese Oasis in Amsterdam
It is very rare to have a perfect dining experience, yet that is exactly what we had at Yamazato. Start with a refined, calming decor of soft woods and kimono clad restaurant staff and a dining room overlooking a traditional Japanese garden including koi pond; add delicious food served in an engaging and artistic manner; topped off by exquisite service. Each dish was pleasing to the eyes and the palate and served with adequate time between courses to allow one to savor each course before anticipating the next. One piece of advice: keep an eye out for the moving rock in the garden. When you see it, you’ll understand.
Disappointing
The hotel and restaurant are beautiful. When you pull in it’s like being transported to a piece of Japan. The restaurant staff are top notch as well as thoughtful. The food was “disappointing”. We tried to stay positive throughout the dinner because we love a tasting menu and really wanted to like this one! The sushi pieces, cooked cod and wagyu courses were good. The interestingly crafted flavors of the other 7 courses sound like they could have potential. Unfortunately they were mushy, cold, smelly and the wrong kind of fishy. I feel badly writing this and we love this hotel chain. Maybe go for lunch if you can do a la cart?!
Kaiseki
An excellent Japanese restaurant located inside the Okura hotel. We liked Chinami's kind and attentive service. It serves an authentic Kaiseki tasting menu, with top-notch ingredients, refined flavor and exquisite presentation.
Outstanding restaurant
We had an absolute fabulous time at Yamazato restaurent. The food was delicate, full of flavours, a multitude of different tastes, a wide range of Japanese cuisine: refined, delicate and extremely good. I highly recommend that restaurant. We will definitely come back very soon.
Wonderful Visit and Experience
The food was delicious, the service was fantastic! The views of the garden and in the restaurant were calming, pleasant, and beautiful. The food was absolutely delicious and the wine and sake pairing was on point! Highly recommend a visit to this lovely restaurant and gastronomic delight!
Traditional Japan
For the foodlover and fans of Japan. Great taste food and wine (and sakes). Good service. Lovely hotel.
Japanese kitchen
Good time with good food and good service. Overall very good. But compared to the price you would expect something more special.
Excellence.
This was an excellent experience. I have experience excellence at this establishment. Our waiter Asuka was exemplary and our sommelier's knowledge truly enhanced our experience. Thank you.
An experience like no other
We visited Yamazato Restaurant during our stay at Hotel Okura in December 2023. We visited the hotel to celebrate our anniversary, and we expected that a dinner at Yamazato would be perfect for this special occasion, Yamazato being a renowned restaurant with a Michelin star. The restaurant looks great and has a very nice, peaceful atmosphere. We had the Kaede Kaiseki-menu. The food was delicious, and moreover obviously prepared with as much care as possible; every meal looks fantastic. The staff was very polite and helpful in answering our questions. We had not informed the staff of our anniversary being our reason for visiting in advance, but after we mentioned this in passing conversation with our server, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that she had made sure we received an additional dessert. All in all, our visit to Yamazato was an extremely satisfying experience and definitely completed our stay at the Okura.
@yamazato.
amsterdam in the @hotel_okura_amsterdam hotel with #onemichelinstar . #kaiseki at its finest (outside of Japan). As you can see from the main course of A5 Waygu beef, they really feed you well. Half that portion would have been just fine. It's a destination restaurant in a destination hotel.

10/10 experience !
We had a fantastic experience culinary and visually starting with a warm welcome from Chihomi who assisted us in the kindest and professional way. Thank you for this lovely and unforgettable evening.

The welcome, the ambiance and of course the food were all pitch perfect. Chinami, our waitress, was charming and very helpful when it came to choosing sake. Perfect date night stuff.
Deep disappointment
We have been coming to Amsterdam to eat at the Okura hotel for at least 25 years. We usually choose the Yamazato restaurant. Our choice is always the Sukiyaki menu with a small dish as an appetizer. Unfortunately, we have not been able to travel due to Corona for the last 4 years, so we booked again this year with great expectations. What was our surprise, however: The "star restaurant" only had one menu on the menu. We blame the reservation service for not informing us that there is only one menu available. We also hardly had time to study the "menu", because the waitress kept talking about the “great” menu. My wife doesn't like fish and tried to explain this to the waitress, who seemed slightly upset. My wife then had to list in detail which fish she doesn't like. Well, none of them. We should have dropped out here and immediately canceled the table, because everything pointed to an impending disaster. But that's a bit difficult: you've been looking forward to it for months and you're still hoping for a miracle. It was not a miracle but a complete disaster. The famous Japanese flavor was nowhere to be found and the taste was far from exotic. Everything was flat in taste and without structure. It seemed like everything tasted the same. When I complained to the manager afterwards about the limited menu, his response was: You should inform yourself via the website. That's going to be really tasty... Then we haven't even talked about the absurd price that is being asked. The price/menu ratio is bizarre. If only we had gone straight to Loetje the steak farmer (nearby), we would have gone to bed with a satisfied stomach. One of the reviews we read complained about the distance to the toilets. Well not normal indeed. (you must have difficulty walking anyway) We will never visit this restaurant again and will strongly advise against it to our friends and acquaintances. We also did not understand that Michelin still gives this restaurant a star. (Does it still have a star??)
Amazing Japanese cuisine
We had an amazing diner night out at the Yamazato restaurant, the food and staff is amazing. We highly recommend this restaurant.
