Had to get our rice fix in for the vacation, and came across restaurant Yen nearby the St-Germain Des-Pres station. After being seated upstairs we looked over the menu and decided to start with Miso Soupe, then onto the main course with the Saumon Grill, Black Cod, and Ebi Tendon (Shrimp Tempura). The Shrimp Tempura came with just the right amount of rice for the two of us so we are good to go for a few more days!Everything was just right with flavor, and was very appealing to look at.The service was friendly and quick, and since they are Japanese everything was done properly.Highly recommend if you are in the area :-)

Authentic Japanese food and you will be happy! A Friend from Japan turned us onto it and we actually enjoyed every bite just wish there was more. Left feeling happy light and satisfied.

This restaurant is located right by cafe del flore and Louis Vuitton in the St Germain area. Amazing find. Lunch bento consists of an appetizer, bento box, soba and a dessert. Portions were appropriate given the four course event. Flavors are very authentic and delicate. Each dish was beautifully presented! The restaurant occupied two floors of the building. The service is also impeccable!!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Japanese restaurant.
I was there for diner earlier this week. The place wasn't that busy so we had a good table without any reservation. We tasted different meals. Sushis were delicious, very subtile, and so were warm mushroom Sobas and fishes.Staff was very friendly, even though one of our plate was served quite late. Finally, very nice decoration inside, I really felt like I was in a Japanese restaurant.

Yen was a nice spot to go for a quiet retreat from the busy streets of Paris. Two levels mean there is ample room for seating and lunch service during the work week wasn't busy at all.I enjoyed the bento lunch special along with a sake tasting. Three mid-range sakes were featured with a good amount to pair with the meal. The bento started with a cold corn soup that was light and refreshing. Next up was the bento box, several small bites, savoury, seafood, vegetables and a salmon rice on the side. Sashimi was fresh and there were interesting bites like the sea snail in a teriyaki marinade.Last came the handmade soba. You can choose between cold and hot noodles. I went with the hot in a delicate broth whilst my partner had the cold in a dipping sauce. Both were delightful and surprisingly didn't need any accompaniments. Service could have been slightly more attentive with bringing and refilling water along with drinks, however they were pleasant overall. The decor was sparse and I feel the ambiance could have been heightened with some Japanese art as the walls were all plain white. Aside from that, it's a great spot I would highly recommend.

I walked into "Yen" because it seemed to have a totally different vibe than the surrounding restaurants and even most of the restaurants I have seen in Paris. From the outside, one can watch a chef beating away at a ball of fresh pasta dough, and subsequently cutting it into strips. It's the very definition of knowing where your food is coming from! It's a sophisticated Japanese restaurant with high standards and a price to match. However, the food is wonderful. I ordered the cold soba noodles with shrimp and vegetable tempura. There was also a simple sesame-soy based sauce to twirl the noodles in because they come dry on a bamboo plate. It was so simple, yet so delicious and light. The tempura was exactly that - lightly fried (not the deep fried stuff that so many restaurants claim is "tempura") the shrimp was so delicate and it melted in my mouth. There was no fishy taste or smell, only the silent snapping of the shrimp skin between my teeth and the wonderful juices inside. Such a perfect meal.I ordered the red bean ice cream for dessert and it was soft and tasted exactly as it should. It had that distinct red bean flavor but it wasn't bitter or overwhelming, OR too sweet to try and mask the actual flavor of the bean. It was one small scoop - the perfect size dessert after a perfectly filling meal. The only negative was the seating; I was placed upstairs in a corner, right next to a fire extinguisher and away from the beautiful store front and outside and semi-outside seating area. However, I didn't make a reservation so...I suppose I can't complain too much!Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Yen as a change of pace from the plethora of French brasseries and cafรฉs I have encountered.
Be the first to ReplyYen is my favorite Japanese spot in Paris.
ย Try their hot soba with duck (kamonamban soba) and tender pork belly (buta no kakuni) with grapefruit slices and spinach. ย Food is not cheap but in line with other places in Saint Germain. ย (They charge for a small pot of green tea.) ย Service was attentive on a Friday night in May. ย Best to call for reservations for an early dinner.

This is a great place to satisfy your soba craving, especially if you want to get your new years soba. ย As others have mentioned, this isn't really a sushi joint, so you really shouldn't judge it as such.Their macha desserts are also very tasty.
