715 Sushi Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year

Chef Tamura-san does a superb job with sushi at his not-so-little place in Little Tokyo/Arts District. A long dark hallway is complimented by a dining room done in the current favor of light Japanese wood around a single sushi bar. The details are done well here, from the delicately sliced ginger to the two kinds of monogrammed towels used (for hot towel service as well as in the bathroom). As far as the food... the focus here is much more on sushi than some of his competitors. The non-sushi items, such as peanut tofu, were interesting and well-crafted, along with a noodle and dried shrimp item that had artfully done components seemed a tad more underwhelming than expected. The sushi itself... the baby sea bream (katsuo, cured, then marinated in vinegar) was superb, easily some of the best katsuo I've eaten. There was an unusual focus on mackerel, with aji, sawara, and saba served in a row (horse mackerel, Spanish mackerel, Japanese mackerel). And the isaki (chicken grunt) was particularly good as well. However as some reviews note, you most certainly pay for the experience. And with so many high-end, even other Michelin star-winning, sushi experiences in the area, there is plenty of competition.

Will not come back again! If you spend $500 like $50, sure, come back anytime when you want. If you take this restaurant for your special occasion, this is not your choice. There are thousands of choices better than this. This place is overpriced overpriced overpriced...... 1. If you're sensitive to allergies, that's something you may experience when you walk in...their incense make me want to sneeze 2. Their sake is way overpriced and basically they're asking how much money you want to pay for your sake and they'll choose one for you:) 3. They'll teach you where to put your chopsticks lol.... This is the funniest thing I've ever seen. I can't put my chopsticks by my plate and they have to be remained inside my plate... I mean that's a personal choice and I don't want to be taught where to put my chopstick... 4. The fish is fresh and the food is good, but similar as what you can get in a good hand roll bar or good sushi restaurant. The only difference is they serve it piece by piece 5. The group sit next to us get extra hand roll and some special sushi... and no one ask us and the other group if we're still hungry and want hand roll before dessert... the only thing I can tell is that group ordered a lot more alcohol than us 6. The dessert is not even a normal bakery level I'm not questioning the chef's cooking skill and their fish quality. But for an omakase experience at one Michelin star, they're not there yet.

The fine dining experience was intimate and it was amazing to see the master in his craft. I highly recommend the course for any special occasion, such as anniversary, graduation, or a special treat. The service was highly professional and kind to us even after we spilled our water.
This place is amazing.
Hands down one of the best omakases iv ever had. Each dish was perfect and unique in its own way and were awarded with a Michelin star two years in a row for a reason. We were served an assortment of nigiri, with other hot dishes and each one flowed perfectly from one another. Some dishes we had included the chawan mushi egg with a light topping of truffle, Spanish Makerel, soft monkfish liver with wasabi on top, sea perch and fatty tuna. The interior was traditional yet modern with Kaws figurines spread throughout the room. The ambience added to the experience. We were asked if we preferred to eat the nigiri with our hands or chopsticks for it to be served accordingly. They change the menu daily, so you're sure to not have the same meal two visits in a row, giving this place great to return back for something new every time. Service was great as well. I might have finished one too many servings of ginger but every time without hesitation the chef would bring out more freshly cut. Food: 9.3/10 Service: 10/10 Ambience: 9/10 TIP: The entrance door was a bit hard to find as it was behind a small metal closure without a sign to address where it was at, but you'll know you're at the right place if you come across that.
Great service.
Amazing and unique food. Excellent ambience and you can see the chef make the dishes in front of you. Very friendly service.
Intimate ambiance.
The staff is great and so well trained. Chef 715 is incredible. Yes it's pricey but it's worth every penny. Every single piece of sushi was melt in your mouth delicious.

I really like how the chef stays focused throughout the whole meal. Also, the sushi rice was really good, probably one of the best sushi rice in little toyko. It's understandable that people would complain about price, but I prefer quality over quantity.
The food was excellent.
I was most impressed by the ankimo, fatty tuna, and kohada. However, I noticed that the service was inconsistent between guests and left a lot to be desired. They took some diners' jackets while for others they either didn't notice or even bother to ask until later in the meal. The pours on their beers were also noticeably inconsistent between guests. I am generally not one to nitpick but for the price of $350-500+ a head, the service was anemic and overpriced compared to other Michelin-caliber omakase experiences I've had previously. To top it off, they forgot to refund my $705 deposit for a party of 4 and I had to call them and ask for it 2 weeks later. As good as the food was, this overall experience was a miss.
Really disappointed in the food and experience.
The food is overrated and over priced. The fish is mediocre (definitely fresh) but there is much better sushi (and especially omakase) elsewhere. As mentioned, the rice was hard and reminded me exactly of the rice in Whole Foods sushi - not exaggerating. This may be traditional to do it that way but it was distracting with every piece and patrons made comments about it. The fish itself was fresh. There was not a single piece that wowed me or my partner. Staff very kind and ambience was great. Overall extremely disappointing food. Save your money and go to the better omakase in la. Unsure how this place got Michelin at all.

I'm not here to write an exorbitant review with useless words and bs that yelpers love. Here's the TLDR 1. Food was fresh, but very overrated. 2. $1k for 2 people for mediocre sushi with "hard" rice that is done this way on purpose apparently. I felt ripped off and insulted that this was the price point for okay sushi. 3. I've had much better omakase for 1/8 the price. 4. Staff and chef were very courteous and accommodating. 5. Ambiance was decent. Place sits 8 persons. Approx 2 hours for the courses.
Great food! The chef is amazing.
Not only the chef/owner created all these wonderful and creative dishes he is also funny. and We had a wonderful time at 715.
One of the best omakase experiences I had in a long time!
