Antica Trattoria La Toppa San Donato Reviews from The Last Year
Disappointing
It is a mystery to us how this restaurant can be recommended by Michelin, because it is absolutely not worth that recognition. On our last evening we decided to eat at La Toppa and end the holiday 'nicely' with an extensive dinner. However, we had finished eating within 60 minutes and were standing outside. Gastronomy is hard to find. The starter: ravioli with truffle sauce, was lukewarm on the table within 5 minutes of ordering and it tasted more like mushroom sauce than truffle. And the beef stew was also lukewarm and not as expected. Overall a disappointing experience. The owner walks through the shop and has only "paid" without asking "whether we had a nice evening". This restaurant was certainly not a good reflection of all the restaurants we visited during our holiday, as we had fantastic food in that area. We read the positive reviews and chose this restaurant based on that, but we were unable to discover the described quality of the restaurant.
We had been recommended by a winegrower we had been recommended by a winegrower from the wonderful area Factoria
The simplicity nothing to say about the quality but we expect in this restaurant recommended so many times by Michel found a cuisine a little elaborate I chose a veal liver which was barely 100 gr without water or any garnish and my companion grilled lamb ribs was not so ungarnished with a side of white beans straight out
Everything excellent!
Very quiet place, in the village of San Donato, delicious meat, truly recommended! Despite the somewhat formal atmosphere, the staff is very welcoming and friendly.
Poor quality
Typical restaurant but the dishes I tried were poorly cooked and of poor quality! Really a shame considering that it is recommended by Michelin (first case of a restaurant reported in the guide where I had a bad meal!)
Quality and courtesy, in abundance.
I had dinner here, in a group with friends, on the days of the Immaculate Conception. What to say? In this beautiful ancient village in the Chianti area, Otello's trattoria is real and genuine. He hasn't been here since yesterday: his son Luigi is also in the room and his young nephew Matteo is in the kitchen. Three generations of excellent Tuscan cuisine. In the menu which is recited orally there are practically all the dishes of Florentine cuisine. That is to say ribollita, pici with garlic, tagliatelle with duck sauce and so on which are often offered together with a series of generous tastings. And then the meat: excellent, tasty. From steak, to fillet, to sliced or stewed: spoiled for choice. Not to mention the pork one. There is a house wine by… default, but the cellar is varied and you can choose interesting bottles. Great sense of hospitality and lots of courtesy. The prices are more than excellent.
Top to the patch
Simple but comfortable restaurant, friendly and attentive staff, normal prices, really good fresh homemade pasta. Simple dishes but respecting the Tuscan tradition... pici with garlic and topppp, all very good... I recommend it
Superlative food!
The restaurant appears very simple, has few frills, but the spotlight is on the food. We were delighted by the goodness of the fresh pasta, its seasonings, not to mention the second courses... the stew was delicious! Last but not least, the house tiramisu... what a treat for the palate!
Typical Tuscan lunch in a hamlet in Chianti
while traveling around Chianti, I stop for lunch in this typical trattoria in the hamlet of San Donato, in the Tavernelle Val di Pesa area. Quiet and familiar environment, offering traditional dishes and a well-stocked wine list. I try an appetizer of mixed crostini, good, and some pici all'aglione, tasty in the right way. I finish with some cantucci and vin santo. Very good quality and very affordable price.
You have to trust the innkeeper
The innkeeper Othello is always right. Having set out and insisted on the steak, we took it and found that it was normal. But the innkeeper had warned us to take the first courses and in this regard, having tasted the pici all'aglione we could only agree with him. My fault.
Excellent dinner and friendly staff
Excellent food at honest prices and very friendly and helpful staff, I recommend stopping by when you are in San Donato.
